Getting on page one on Google for your website properties.

Most of us have heard that page rank and backlinking are a good start to get your content or website onto page one on Google. This is of course true to an extent, a website property with good high quality backlinks from other highly ranked sites will improve your page ranking. That in turn will boost your search engine rankings for your desired keyword or phrase.

The most over-looked problem I tend to come across when people are trying to get a page one ranking on Google is they are trying to achieve it with a keyword that has way too much competition.

There's not much point competing for the top spot for a keyword like "internet marketing" if you do not know much about SEO or for that matter internet marketing!!

The new marketer will set his or her sights too high and ultimately fail miserably with their campaign to get on to page one on Google. It happens all the time. They see thousands and thousands of daily searches for a keyword and think "hey, that looks promising, I can't lose!"

However, the realisation soon kicks in when some way into their battle to the top spot when after countless hours of work and frustration...they find they have made mediocre progress they have gone to page 99 from page 100!! We've all been there!

There are certain methods and guidelines you must do if you are bidding to get onto page one on Google for your website property.

I said it three times because it's THAT important! Without proper and thorough keyword research you will never get anywhere, trust me when I started out in this business I used to rush this stage too many times and pay the price each and every time!

I finally realised that to get a page one on Google I had to work smarter and not harder!

Rather that trying to get a page one ranking on Google for a keyword like "dog training" for example (21,900,000 competing websites at time of writing with a global monthly search of 135,000) you would have to work mighty hard to even get into the top ten pages let alone on the first page!

So why not get a bit smarter and try "how to train my dog" which has 1,900 searches globally per month but only 12,600 competing websites. Far easier to achieve a page one on Google for this keyword phrase than the first one!

The time it takes to get to page one on Google will depend greatly on the keyword or phrase that you have chosen to use. Like I said above, the more competing websites the longer the journey to the top it will be! And of course if you thought it was hard enough getting on page one on Google think about how hard it will be to stay there!

Google does have an unwritten policy that when you submit your website content to them it takes weeks to show up in the search results. Add to this the fact that there is nothing to say that you will get ranked for your chosen keyword or phrase either (unless of course you have set up your content properly!).

There are other means of course, one would be to not submit your content to Google, rather have Google come across your content and index it that way. Generally this will get your website content indexed and in the search results much much quicker.
