Pain Relief - Why I don't use 'Pain Killers'

As soon as we are born and live in a body, it is inevitable that we will experience pain. Actually, we probably even experience pain while in the womb. Pain is a major interference with life, and I have had my share of it along with everyone else. Pain and the experience of it is as varied as the ways it is triggered as well as how much our mind can tolerate it.

Pain can be experienced on an emotional level, a spiritual level, a mental level, or a physical level. All are debilitating in their own way, and all stop us from leading the type of full and happy life we are all deserving of.

However, I am going to explain why, after I was a passenger in a car accident in 1998 which left me in pain 24/7/365, I stopped looking for pain relief in the most common form of pain killer, pharmaceutical drugs.

How do Pain Killers Work for Physical Pain.

Pain is just a signal from the body letting us know something is not functioning properly and we need to find out why and give it our immediate attention.

Now I want to be clear that I am not against pharmaceutical pain killers when it comes to many situations. For example, emergency care for broken limbs, massive body injuries of any sort caused by any number of things like war, major car accidents, or other types of vehicle accidents, major burns or any other horrific incident. Obviously, pain killers are excellent and most necessary for these circumstances.

I am focusing on long term use of pain killers after the body has been repaired or as the body is healing after the initial physical trauma.

A pain killer is designed to interfere with the messages being delivered to the brain, so those messages are not delivered, therefore we do not feel the pain. The message that there is pain, is disrupted, we do not receive it, therefore we do not feel it. Basically they make the body lie to itself so it thinks everything is OK, even when it is not.

The question to ask yourself though is, "How long can this lying and interference go on, before some major negative effects occur?"

Obviously, pain killers are designed to kill the feeling of pain but are not designed to heal the problem causing the pain. Some people seem to think that if they can't feel the pain, then everything is working as it should and it is OK to perform actions that they could perform before, because now they don't hurt. .This is just not the case.

My Early in Life Experience of Prescrition Drugs

Before I get into the pain relief story I will set the stage by stating that when I was around 17 or 18 I became depressed and so sought help for this from a number of M.D.'s. The only solution offered, even though I asked for different choices, was a little pill obtained with a prescription. Problem was, when I took the pill it put me to sleep at my work desk, (I worked in a bank), which nearly got me fired, but the part that made me stop taking them after 3 days was that it also made me 'not care', how I behaved and this was too scary for me to live like this.

I have always believed that we feel out-of-sorts when we are out of balance and we become out of balance due to any number of things including what we put in and on our bodies (yes, 'on' also ends up 'in' most of the time). Also, what we are breathing has a huge effect. Especially if one works in an area that never has the windows opened for fresh air, or somewhere that has mold or a dirty heating or air-conditioning system that blows nasties into the air.

Personal tragedies or just the way we treat ourselves or are treated by our families and co-workers and friends also has a huge effect on how balanced we are feeling, but I am focusing on physical pain right now.

I also had the question at the time, as I do now also; "how can man, create an intricate enough solution to an extrememly complex body system, created by God, that can be placed in a chemical pill form in a laboratory?" "How can the effect possibly ever be known, of taking such a pill into the body?" And then, "how could the effect of taking that pill ever be known for each individual person because each body will react with the zillions of other factors differently?"

Our bodies are one majorly complex system and every cause in our lives has an effect on it. It is just not possible to know it all, but I did not like the effect I was experienceing from this 'emotional pain pill'. Therefore I came to the conclusion that M.D's who did not consider the whole body and include environmental, emotional, nutritional or hormonal imbalances in their diagnosis but just handed out drugs meant they had nothing to offer me in my quest for feeling whole, balanced and vibrantly well.

The reason I mentioned the experience of not liking the result of using the drugs offered by M.D.'s is just so you understand why from then on I used other forms of medicine and healing both for myself, and after getting married and having children, for them also. So it was not like me to rush to a doctor to get pain killers after the car accident in 1998 even though I was in pain 24/7/365.

UFirst Money Merge Account system.

Instead I preferred to find a way of healing my body so it would feel as it did before the accident. Now the only problem with this method is it costs money from your own pocket because the monopoly created by the pharmaceutical and insurance conglomerates will not allow many other alternatives in on the big profit scheme.

Various Healing Practitioners

I tried many and varied healers according to my budget, which was very limited, but I used, acupuncture, massage treatments from various styles, tuning forks, chiropractic in a number of forms, iincluding an 'atlas' orthogonist, cranial osteopathy, regular osteopathy, 'atlas' specialists, cranial sacral, etc. etc etc.

Even though I was rarely without pain and pressure in my head, neck, heart, shoulder blade, knee areas, for 3 years, and was unable to sleep very well, I just kept on trying to find someone who would be able to make me whole again as I was before the accident.

One thing I knew for sure was this, I could FEEL whether the treatments I was receiving were being helpful or not. If a practitioner was open and responsive to my report of what I found they did that helped most, I would continue going to them. Some practitioners did not like to listen to me though because they felt it is a slight to their abilities, so I did not continue seeing them.

This of course leads to why I started using and then stopped using pain relief pills after a car accident.

My Experience of Using Pain Relief Pills

In 1999 we moved from Oregon to New York and I wanted my son to attend a Montessori school, but to afford tuition I had to work there. I had been a stay-at-home -mum (that's how we spell mom in Australia) for 18 years, and the pain and pressure in my head and neck still needed treatments at least 3 times a week so I could at least function.

I began driving a van with 8 kids in it to school, worked there all day and then home again 3 times a week. I found driving the van really aggravated my injuries, especially my neck and so I thought, oh well, I will try tylenol. It was interesting to note that the tylenol side effects were that each day I needed to up my dose to get the same amount of neck pain relief as the day before. Not only that, but while I was taking the tylenol I found that even though I did not feel pain, it not only did not help my memory or thought processes which had become more often than not, dislexic, but in fact made them function worse.

After a week or two of upping the dose every day I started taking ibuprofen to see if the different drug made any difference, I found the ibupfrofen side effects were no different than tylenol's. I needed to up the dose every day and it also did not help with the ability of my mind to function normally.I did the same thing with Advil and took them until the doses were way more than the recommended dose.

My Conclusion after Using Pain Killers for a Month

I realized that I would need to continue to up my doses of pain relief pills for ever at the rate I was going, and I realized why I needed to stop using them; I was feeling worse and worse and the pain I experienced kept being stronger and stronger, I believe, for the following two reasons:

The first reason was that by being conciously cut off from feeling the pain I was therefore cut off from knowing whether the way I was using my body was helping or hindering my injury. My pain was increasing because I was no longer conciously aware which body movements I performed were OK and which caused an increase in pain.

I had to be aware because otherwise I could not tell whether the sleeping position I was in with the certain pillows in certain positions to support different areas of my body, was correct or not. I also had to be aware of how I held my head up, and for how long. I often had to lie down just to give my neck a rest from holding up my head. Without that awareness I could not tell when I needed to do that. I had to sit in certain types of chairs only. Any other type would cause strain due to the posture it created and so pain would increase. Even if I sat for too long, the pain would increase. I had to have my husband come shopping with me because I could not pick up any amount of weight. If I could not feel that strain, I would be injuring myself further. I had to be very very aware of how I sat while driving or even as a passenger in a car. I had to have a head rest and also, I was not able to turn my head and especially not back out of any parkig spot. i could only park so I never had to back out. Being aware and taking the necessary steps to protect my injury from things like this were crucial to my healing. When I could not feel the pain due to the effect of how the pain killers worked it felt great, but at what cost to the overall healing process of my body..? I did not want to end up debilitated for the rest of my life or needing surgery.

The second reason was also very important. When visiting healing practtioners I needed to be able to feel whether the healers were doing what my body needed or whether they were just doing their regular routine and weren't really in tune with my needs. This was very important as I had limited funds and wanted to make sure I was spending my money on something that was helping me become whole. If I could not feel, how could I heal? No-one else is able to make me heal. No-one else really knows what I need to heal.

I had to sit, stand, and lie down with awareness so I did not injure myself any more, and I could not and can not do that while being consciously cut off from measuring the level of pain by taking pain relief drugs.

So, how was I able to overcome the injuries and now be pain free most of the time, and only need a massage once every month or two, and that is it?

Eternally Grateful to God, Claire Brown and Gary Young

After 3 years of seeing at least 3 healers a week, every week, I felt I was not getting any better, but because some healers had actually injured me more I was getting worse. I was depressed and unable to think straight because of the pinched nerve and lack of blood flow to my brain, amongst other issues.

My only course of action, i realized was to stop expecting any person to be able to heal me. It is going to take my openness and invitation to God's power and love to get the job done and so I lay on my bed and asked God to help me, to give me a concrete sign of how to go about healing myself with his guidance.

Shortly after that, my friend Claire Brown dragged me along to an in-home Young Living Essential Oils presentation. Gary Young is the founder, grower, distiller, farmer, doctor, speaker, educator of Young Living Essential Oils. Eight oils were being passed around along with the Wolfberry Juice which is now called NingXia Red. I was so in the habit of massaging the back of my head and neck 24/7 to relieve the pain and pressure that whenever an oil was poured onto my hand I massaged it into the back of my neck. I also sampled the NingXia Red juice and at the end of the evening I experienced 100% neck pain relief, along with head pressure relief.

I left the meeting happy but wondering whether I had the ability to learn what I thought I had to learn about oils to be able to use them. (I had not read much since the accident because I was unable to 1. hold a book, 2. hold my neck in a comfortable position for reading, 3. comprehend words. 4. hold information I had read in my mind. 5. focus my eyes on little things, like words) and 6. A lot of my memory, especially short term memory was not working. All this since the accident. I was also very concerned about adding another cost to our budget.

Three days after that auspicious meeting though, the pain relief was dwindling rapidly and this got me thinking. If I can just slap 8 oils on the back of my neck along with tasting a delicious, powerful nutrient infusing, antioxident drink and feel such relief, I would be really stupid not to take advantage of this. Not only that, I felt like this was God's concrete message to me.

The results I have had from using Young Living Essential Oil products is the reason I am eternally grateful to God the Creator and inner guide, my friend Claire, for introducing me to the oils and Gary Young, the creator and founder of Young Living Essential Oils. I had no life after the car accident, but now I have been given my life back, the healing effects are that powerful.

Raindrop Kit

Oils I Used to Heal Myself.

I started out using the same oils that were used at the presentation I went to and later introduced the NingXia Red juice which I now drink every day.

I massaged those oils into my head, neck, chest, face, back, arms, wrists, fingers, belly, and under my feet every single day, Peppermint, Lemon, Lavener, Panaway, Peace and Calming, Purification and Joy oils. And Valor oil makes eight.

Thieves has been a major force for me for many reasons, and I still go nowhere without my bottle of Thieves oil blend

I found other oils that helped me were Abundance, Exodus ll, Egyptian Gold, Frankincense, Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Di-Gize and Ylang Ylang.

The 'Twelve Oils of Ancient Scripture' is another kit I used often in the beginning, until the price went up, a lot. It is very powerful and I would recommend this kit for pretty much any condition.

Also, doing Raindrop treatments on my neck helped. The oils in the raindrop kit are Valor, blend, Oregano, Thyme, Basil, Marjoram, Peppermint, Cypress, Wintergreen, AromaSiez blend, and Ortho-Eaze. Raindrop is a kit that you can read more about in the Essential Oils Desk Reference published by Essential Science Publishing. See the picture above.

How Do Oils Heal?

I prefer to be pain free by healing the soure of the pain rather than changing my conscious awareness with a foreign chemical that stops my body from doing it's job of informing me something is wrong, and you need to fix it.

"The unnatural molecules of man-made drugs attach themselves to various tissues, disrupting normal function for years while the body tries to figure out what to do with them. Meanwhile, they wreak mischief with our bodily functions and even our minds."

"On the other hand, natural molecules, such as those found in essential oils, are easily metabolized by the body. In fact, your body was created to handle them. When an essential oil molecule finds the receptor sites it was designed to fit and conveys its information to the cell, or participates in other therapeutic functions, it then goes on its way to the liver and the kidneys and moves out of the body. Its benefits have been conveyed and its job is complete."

God's True Medicine

I truely believe that medical quality essential oils are the missing link to our medical crisis today. They have been used all throughout history, all over the world, as can be seen in my History of Essential Oil Use, As Medicine, Through the Ages blog article, which can be found at the same link as the Why oils Heal and Drugs Don't.

They have no side effects when they are grown, distilled, and bottled to the correct standards for medicine and are capable of killing many diseases that pharmaceutical drugs cannot.

Do not think because I did not take the regular pain killers that I was always in pain. No. Essential Oils are also designed, by God, to kill pain.

The YLEO can also kill pain but they do so by a completely different and opposite method than what pharmaceuticall drug pain killers do. The oils actually heal all the cells of the body and reduce inflamation and detoxify the body and are capable of rejuvenating dried out, damaged, diseased etc.cells.

I used a lot of oils every day, probably the equivalent to 8 to 10 mls per day, made up of a variety of single plant and blended oils.

This is a true experience of mine and I share it because I want people to know there is an alternate answer when it comes to pain relief.

I will be writing more about the oils and how my family and I have used them soon. Please comment and vote below. Thanks for your time.

Some of Gary Young's formula's for pain.

Gary's own formula for reducing pain and regenerating nerve impulses resulting from herniated disks at L4, L5 and L6, blended together and applied on location:

Vetiver: 20 drops

Idaho Balsam Fir: 6 drops

Peppermint: 5 drops.

Gary suffered from two serious accidents this last year, a severe abdominal injury from jousting and a serious compound fracture of his right arm while searching in the mountains on his horse for a lost 12 year old Boy Scout.

He took this internally for pain in a 00 capsule:

Valerian: 19 drops

Clove: 2 to 3 drops or

Peppermint: 2 to 3 drops.

Two (2) capsules at night are good for about 5 hours of pain relief.

Gary also gave us this formula for someone who had just undergone a serious hernia and strangulated bowel resection, taken twice a day:

NingXia Red Juice: 2 oz.

Georges Always Active Aloe Vera: 2 oz.

Sandalwood: 5 drops for DNA repair

Myrrh: 5 drops for DNA repair and anti-infection

Detoxzyme: 3 capsules

Liquid Acidophilus

This elderly individual was released to go home in only 4 days and took no pain medication

Thanks for some powerful information as well as a common sense approach to healing. I gave up on MD's years ago when their only 'answers' were pills that didn't work well. They may have covered up the problem but they didn't get rid of it. You have given me hope and another avenue to try. Thank you.

Hi Steve

Thanks for your comment. I would not have life if it was not for Young Living products. That is the absolute truth. I am certain you will find all the YL products are well worth the price you pay.

My faith and trust in these oils got me through many situations along the path to healing. If you need to talk about anything, please feel free to call.

As you can see on the 2nd email I sent you, you can do searches for your issues and find out what has worked for others that have similar issues.

This is great information, Jennifer. I have not been able to use pain killers for a few years because I have developed allergies to them. Luckily, I am not in pain very often. You have shown true strength of character, and spirit to be able to deal with your pain so effectively. Thank you for sharing these experiences with us.

Jennifer,

I love your information. I would like to find out more please contact me at sherry@cureyourselfofdebts.com so we can talk. My sister dealt with pain and became an addicit thanks to doctors. She is finally getting the help she needs and realized that she was addicted. Doctors today are quick to give pills rather then take time to get to the bottom of things at times.

A very informational and detailed post. Thank you, Jennifer, for sharing your experiences. I get a 90 minute massage once a month and get an adjustment once a month also. Those really help. I wish my daughter had known about these oils when she had her migranes. Maybe this therapy would have worked, because the drugs certainly didn't help as time went by.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for visiting and letting us know how wonderful a monthly massage can be. Add some Otho Eaze massage oil or 'Peace and Calming' oil blend to the massage and see what happens.

Check out the Essential Oils Desk Reference Vol 4 by Essential Science Publishing. This is what i use for ideas for overcoming different issues.

Thank you for sharing your experiences and your wisdom.  I didn't know where you were heading as I read your blog...I thought maybe the relief would be found through Bowen Technique, which as you may know, began in Australia - and is an amazing and unique form of bodywork.  Plants are wonderful medicine, truly a gift from God.

I too dislike painkillers, and find oils very useful indeed.

The exception, for me, was after an emergency ceasarian section.

A very insightful post Jen. I personally prefer to stay away from the use of drugs in general. And do believe that use of more natural cures is better for ones overall health.

Hi Jody,

Thanks for your comment. I am not the greatest writer so I hope the post wasn't too confusing.

Actually, after that 1998 car accident and feeling like I was healed we went to Australia in 2006 and on the 2nd day there, my mum was driving my dad, my husband, my youngest son and myself to see another brother and his family and bam, another car accident. My sister-in-law had been learning bowen, so her teacher came and did some treatments. My mum went by ambulance to the hospital and I went with her. Luckily I had oils in my pocket because they gave her nothing as we waited in the emergency waiting room for hours. I kept lighting rubbing panaway, peppermint, and other oils into her broken leg and swollen knee etc. When she came home her chest as was mine, and my son's were black from the seatbelts so we massaged oils into those areas also. My son's 'atlas' was way out of alignment, as mine had been after the first accident, so we had to see an atlas specialist here in America along with some other types of healers to get that back in place. The great thing about the oils is that after the adjustment, the oils then reduce the swelling and heal the damaged tissues. This is what I have found makes all the difference no matter what type of treatment we seek. No adjustment stays in place for us without using the oils. Massages are 100% more effective if the masseuse is willing to use the oils I bring. etc. etc. I found that after three years of different treatments, I was only getting worse until I started using oils everyday. One needs to find the combination of treatments that work for them personally, and those may change as well, as time goes by. I have never heard of or met anyone that does Bowen in USA.

Hi Londongirl

Thanks for your comment also LondonGirl. My daughter lived in London for 2 years and met her Albanian husband there also.

Hi Christopher

Jennifer, You have written such a wonderful description of your experiences. I am so happy that you have had such success with these Therapeutic-grade oils through all the years I have known you. You have truly been an inspiration not only to me but to everyone who has heard you share your experiences and seen the results of your personal use.

The thing I love also about these oils is that through using the book you have mentioned and through showing others how to obtain the oils, and then supporting them in their use, the person can become self-empowered to take care of their own emotional and physical concerns instead of having to depend on someone else who supposedly "knows" what to do. To me, self-empowerment is the key; without that the person is left with only an interesting anecdote.

You are an inspiration! Thank you for sharing this with us all.

Hi Jennifer -Yes, Bowen is alive and well in the U.S.  Here is a directory http://bowendirectory.com/ for finding a practitioner.  A good friend of mine is a Bowen practioner/teacher here in Northern CA.  Her name is Sandra Gustafson.

It's interesting the combined use of Bowen and oils.  What a wonderful blend!  And...you are an excellent writer, no apology needed!

Hi brownlickie

Thanks for stopping by and I appreciate your comment. So sorry to hear about your wife though. Pain can ruin one's life.

Yes you can purchase the YL oils in Australia. My mother, father, brother's and sister all use them in Australia.

If you go to www.youngliving.com it will give you a choice of countries. If you do decide to purchase some oils, you have to be sponsored in so my sponsor name is Jennifer Hansen and my distributor number is 471049.

You can also check out my website www.hansenschoice.com for more information.

I have had many experiences and so if you want to talk some time send me a message as it would be too much to write here.

I wish your wife well. I used a wide variety of oils and I kept applying them each day until the pain went. I had many cleansing experiences along the way to healing but my 100% faith in the oils got me through many of them and I now have total conviction in the oils.

I am not a medical professional so I am only speaking from my own experience. I do not know what is causing your wife's pain so her condition may need other treatments as well. Good luck.
