World's largest pearl found
The 9.45-inch (240 mm) Pearl of Lao Tzu is the world's largest.
It was found by a diver off the Philippine island of Palawan in 1934.
The normally quiet Palswan Resort Islands hit the front pages of the world's
newspapers when in 2001 a goup of 20 guests at the Dos Palmas resort by the
reknowed terroist group Abu Sayyaf. Two hostages were killed during the rescue
operations Christian missionary Martin Burnham and Guillermo Sobero both US citizens.
There are daily flights to the Palawan Islands which take around 55 mins.
Ferries can be taken from Cebu 1 hr 15 min. Manila 24 hrs and Iloilo 36 hours.
