Why not learn how to read palms?

So you want to know if you're finally going to hook up with the person you've been staring at across the workplace. Are you going to get a raise? Are you healthy? Your horoscope can give you the generic answers, but you probably want to know more about your own life than what newspapers and Internet predictions can tell you.

Palm reading is a great way to achieve this. Also know as palmistry, it is one way to find both the future as well as a healthy human spirit. While many see this as a form of entertainment, many practice it themselves for serious spiritual and beneficial reasons, for comfort or genuine interest.

This technique has origins in India, thousands of years ago, and grew in popularity in ancient Greece. Over time it spread through Europe and Asia, and now it has developed into the interesting system that still exists today. Many people are familiar with the Gypsy palm reading technique, constructed for those who wish to know the hidden facts about their life.

While reading the lines on your palm won't tell you your fate, you can use palm reading to distinguish your characteristics and health qualities. A single line on your palm can explain all sorts of aspects concerning your life, including relationships. The texture of a part of your palm can mean you will be successful in a particular area of life. By palm reading, you can see your strengths to capitalize on them or your weaknesses to improve them. However, palmistry isn't necessarily an art that requires extensive training or costly materials and palm-reading charts. This is something anyone can enjoy and try. All it takes is looking at a line on your palm.

Read through this general guide to get a good understanding of palm reading and the basics. Practice on your friends and family and get a kick out of their reactions, or try it on yourself to see what the future holds for you.

Why learn how to read palms?

· It's really fun to learn!

What makes palm-reading fun is that the results are different for everyone. It's interesting to see what your palm says are your most distinct characteristics or if you're healthy or not. It's easy too; there are only a few basic lines to learn about in order to read palms. You don't have to memorize a lot of patterns to read palms.

· A palm reading is something you can use

You can use a palm reading to see if you're the person you want to be, if you're heading down the right track or not. Knowing certain things about yourself and your life can open the door to a wealth of possibilities, if only in your mind. And sure, it's helpful to know if you're going to hit a rough patch down the road or if you're too aggressive to get along with anyone. But don't let your reading weight too heavily; it might end up being a self-fulfilling prophecy!

· You don't have to pay someone else to do it for you

Sometimes, going to a "professional" palm reader can mean $50 for a hand reading! Oftentimes what they tell you might not be the truth but rather what you want to hear. But you don't have to charge someone else to do something you can do yourself! Start practicing on yourself and you'll be a pro in no time!

· Make friends by showing off your newfound skills

Ok, this is a stretch, but honestly, palm reading is something that people are very interested in. Everyone's hands are individual and people want to know things about themselves in particular. Try this out at a party or other social gatherings - even at work - and you won't be just another person.

How to read palms: What it all means

Look at the above picture to help understand this guide more easily.

Here are the basics you need to know to get started:

First of all, your hands represent different things in general:

Right hand - the practical, active side

Left hand - the emotional "heart" side

Look at the lines on both hands to see how the readings compare. Also, many suggest that women should have their left hand seen and men their right. The scientific approach says that, while both hands should be seen, the left shows the natural persona while the right represents personality and talent.

Texture: This is important on the back and front of the hand. Softness means sensitivity and refinement while a rough hand shows a coarse persona. Of course, calluses mean the person works hard or at a job where he or she uses the hands.

Flexibility: This directly represents how adjustable the nature of the person is.

Nails: Longer nails that taper at the tip mean creativity while square mean orderliness.

Color: This shows how blood circulates through the client's body. A pinkish hand means he or she is healthy while yellow means too much bile is being produced. Blue means there is a circulation problem.

Mounts: These are at the base of the fingers. Pay attention to the characteristics noted above as well as this additional information concerning location, name and meaning:

Base of index finger = Mount of Jupiter. It shows ambition, leadership, religion and love for nature.

Base of second finger = Mount of Saturn. It denotes seriousness, wisdom, balance and sadness.

Base of ring finger = Mount of Apollo. It represents brilliance, artistry, happiness and success.

Base of fourth finger = Mount of Mercury. It shows industriousness and shrewdness.

Base of thumb = Mount of Venus. It means love, sympathy, music and passion.

Edge of the hand = Mount of Moon. It shows imagination, coldness and selfishness (an interesting combination!)

The rest of the hand = Plain of Mars. It denotes courage, bravery and aggression.

Heart line: This represents your love life, what happens and why. It's the first prominent line below your fingers.

Right hand - The heart line shows how you relate to other people; your personal needs in love; your love experiences; and your passions for life

Left hand - This can tell how you feel about yourself and the relationships you have... the feelings that lie under the surface.

If your heart line...

Curves steeply under the index and middle finger - There's strong sexual desire

Ends under the index finger - You're picky with your lovers

Ends under the middle finger (this is rare!) - You have a need for love

Is straight and short - You have no need for romance, but you have a strong sex drive

Has 2 or more lines branching off - However many "branches" means the number of sides to your emotional nature

Points downwards with a branch and touches the life line - You're easily hurt in love

Is the same as your partner - You will have a successful marriage

Head line: This represents the ways you think, not how smart you are! This is the next prominent line below the heart line.

Right hand - Your physical life, including your career, business and even hidden talents

Left hand - How you think, see the world and communicate

If your head line...

Ends around your ring finger - Your head line is average

Is short - You think simply and directly

Is long - You're a thorough and careful thinker

Is straight - You think clearly and you concentrate

Is curved - You are ready to play with new and different ideas

Is sloped - You're a creative thinker!

Is horizontal - You think practically

Is chained (makes a chain-like pattern) - You are strung out

Has a fork in it - You are open-minded and capable of seeing many points of view

Floats (disconnected) - You have a carefree attitude

Starts under the index finger - You are brilliant!

Life line: Actually, this doesn't predict how long you'll live, but rather how you will live in the future and what the quality of your life will be. This prominent line curves down the palm.

Right hand - Your vitality physical strength; the timing of the events and important, practical occurrences in your life; how adventurous in life you are

Left hand - Your vitality and emotional strength; the timing of events and important emotional occurrences in your life; how adventurous in relationships you are

If your life line...

Runs close to your thumb - You have low vitality... you're usually tired

Has a wide curve - You have high vitality and lots of energy

Is "stronger" than your head line (bigger, wider) - You are more active physically than mentally

Is chained - You have weak health

Has small rising lines - You have an active personality

Has outward-swinging lines - You love to travel

Has a small line on it - This refers to the particular events at points in your life

Make sure you tell the person whose palm you're reading that the lines tell about his or her life - not the other way around! Don't let your readings become a self-fulfilling prophecy!

Great hub. I learnt to read palms by examining all I could get and checking if the theories work. I have also found that the lines keep changing as we go through life.

Thank you.

I used to dabble in palm reading years ago, and didn't give it too much credence, even if I used to do tarot readings for years with good results.... however, when my late 18 year old nephew was in the hospital in life support two years ago (he was already brain dead), a friend and I took a look at his palm out of curiosity, his hand was virtually free of lines, and his life line was very, very short. This freaked us out a little, seeing his hand free of lines, because it shows there is truth to palm reading.

It was really a good information based hub! Videos are ok but sound is some time not heard properly!

I found some kind of diference regarding lines, mounts- the positions of planets in the hand! But i think this is because of Indian and Western pattern of Palmistry!

Great hub! I have always been fascinated by this subject matter. Looking at my hands wondering what it all might mean.

I have never seen a hub with such details and complete information!

I looked at my hands and now I understand why my health has had its many problems. It has many brokens lines but my strength is a different story. That is so true becasue I never stop, no matter what.

My heart is solid and that is a fact. Now I want to look at others hands. I will certainly refer to this hub.

A nice presentation. But, I am sorry this theory has several flaws, since Vastu is supposed to be the Horoscope of the whole family living in a house.
