In todays world of the ultra sensitve, we are concerned with our personal hygene. Let's face it, you don't want people to look at you and wrinkle their noses, do you? Admit it. We have body odor. You want to look, feel and smell clean. Sexy.
Toiletries
Let's start the day shall we? You drag your feet out of bed. Your mouth feels like a sewer, and you don't smell so well either. You head off to the bathroom and brush your teeth and shower.
You may have all kinds of products that you use. A body soap, face soap, shaving soap, shampoo and conditioner. So many fruity scents to choose from. You step out of the shower and wrap that towel around you. You may even sniff it to make sure it does not smell, well... moldy yet. It wouldn't do to have just showered and dry your self off with an old musty towel. Sniff sniff. Nope. April fresh.
If you have not already brushed your teeth, now would be a good time to do so. As you run your tongue across your teeth, you think, "Ahhh, minty fresh." Perhaps you use a styling agent on your hair. A leave in conditioner, mousse or hairspray. Now comes the key.
We would'nt want to go through all of that just to stink in an hour or so. Dont forget the deoderant. There are so many kinds of deoderant. Roll on. Stick. Wipe on. Mens. Ladies. Secret, strong enough for a man, but made for a woman, in a nice powedery scent. If you are a guy, don't forget the aftershave. Ladies, perhaps you would like to lotion after your shave.

Perfume. The term Perfume stems from Latin; Per Fume, or Through Smoke. This originated from the early burning of incense. The distillation of fragrant oil, probably came from India. In later times essential oils were worn on the body to mask body odors. You can see why people in old times would use perfume before making love. The amount of “scented concentrates” to alcohol are what determines the type. These are labeled from the highest concentration to the lowest. Perfume. Eau de Toilet. Cologne.
Smell Sexy
I Smell, therefore I am
As a civilized society, we are conscious of our body odor. As a modern consumer society, we are constantly bombarded with images and products that make us more self conscience. They use these images to make us feel better about our selves for using these products. They have a product to sell, and try to create a need for them based on our weaknesses.
Think about all of the products that you use that have “scents” in them. Many of your products are scented with perfume concentrates. Lotions, creams, powders, body splashes, aftershaves, soaps, and other cosmetic products may contain variable amounts of fragrance. Mix this chemical cocktail with the clothes you wear, dish detergent, floor cleaners, counter cleaners, air fresheners, anti bacterial wipes, scented trash-bags, furniture polish along with a plethora of deodorizers, and you have a virtual toxic hazard.
Most of the time, these “scents” do not blend well. Our olfactory scenes are inundated with a barrage of different scents. Our noses start to become less sensitive to smell, so companies are putting ever increasing higher concentrates in the everyday products we use.
Companies are trying to find cheaper ways of putting fragrance in their products. Many of these are becoming more and more abrasive to sensitive people. This also is the source of more pollution.
Many companies use cruel and unnecessary animal testing to test the abrasiveness of their fragrances. Think about considering “fragrance free” products the next time you go shopping.
Would you buy fragrance free products?

My perfume of choice is non other than Chanel No.5 or Oscar de la Renta.....My favs.... ( LOVED THE HUB!)
I guess smelling good does carry some responsibilities too. Nice insights, I for one don't stop to think about sources, effects of the essences used. This should change my perspective on the perfumesI use. :D
Have you ever walked past a perfume counter in a store and been assaulted by a cloying melange of scents? Shudder. Sort of defeats the purpose I think.
I can't stand all those chemically-created smells - and I hate aftershave (usually used to liberally).
A clean body, washed with a natural scent-free soap is never offensive - even towards the end of a hot day, natural body odor is just fine.
You're funny Not Telling - Chelsea ? hah !
people are lucky I rinse with water, let alone use a soap or fragrance. I think my natural gorilla scent is very appealing to the ladies. But I can always keep them guessing with new odors.
I've never understood the perfume industry. I've never understood the hype and I don't like the fragrances.
I live in South Carolina, though, where some kind of defense is needed against spring, summer, and autumnal sweat fests; I started wearing patchouli oil about 20 years ago, and people want to come sit beside me, follow me out of stores, and ask me why I smell so good.
Once upon a time I enjoyed the foo-foo, but am now hypersensitive to most scents. Most women don't know how to properly apply scents anymore--a touch on the pulse points; not take a bath in it. What some consider "a nice smell" can put me into an asthma attack. I'm with GT and Iphigenia on this one, a clean body smells better than any cologne to me....especially one with the slight sheen of sweat! :-) More manly than any cologne, honey!
I heard on the Ellen show that the smell of vanilla...attracts people to you....hmmm. All the bakers in town should then have huge fan followings. :P
Not Telling- LOL
JJ- I am happy you stopped by. My wifes fav is also No. 5
Cris- it is always interesting to look at things from a new perspective. No?
FP- I used to go the long way around those.
Iphi- Now that’s my kinda’ woman. I prefer my wifes natural scent. Something about it make me go Yum. In America, most everyone uses commercial deodorant. It contains aluminum. When you quit using it, your body sweats out the aluminum for weeks, making you smell worse than you would otherwise. So they panic and put more on. Hows that for a product creating a demand for it’s self!
GT- getting caught in the rain is not the same thing as “rinsing” with water
Teresa- I love patchouli! It is one of my favorite smells. Unfortunately my wife can’t stand it. I always dip into the samples at the health food store.
Dink- and how can that perfume shine when your hair smells like tropical breeze, your lotion of lavender and your clothes smell of “April Fresh”? And yes, there is nothing wrong with little clean sweat.
dianacharles- Makes you kind of hungry, doesn’t it.
I feel the natural essence is fine so long as it is Jitterbug Perfume.
Patchouli is fine not to replace bathing all together.
Personally use a bit of vaniila and lavender essential oil. The combo is very pleasing to me... and so I have found with others! lol
Jitterbug Perfume it is! Bathing is always good. (do you hear GT?)
When I was working as a nurse, I did not wear any perfume because it could have affected some patients adversely. Now I wear it very sparingly and not on a daily basis. Use unscented things like laundry detergent, etc. as much as possible. You are very correct about many of these things becoming toxic. Many homes inside are worse for people than the outside air because of all of these combinations of things.
Think I will stick with the deoderant however especially living here in hot and humid Houston. LOL
I Have to use deodorant for work. However, I have found a Chrystal deodorant that uses mineral salts to prevent odor forming bacteria from growing. Some natural scents do come through. It does not clog pores or mask the smells. It took about 3 weeks to start working as the aluminum from regular deodorants really smells when you sweat it out. The aluminum has also been linked to possible cause or catalyst in alzheimer's disease.
A natural Deodorant that really works. No Auminum. No Clogged Pores.
