Paranormal or Para insult to our intelligence

I am a skeptical Believer

I wanted to get that out of the way first. The Paranormal intrigues me. I've even experienced things that to date cannot be explained. I am, however, still a skeptic!

I started out only watching one show, and that was Haunted History. I found it interesting and entertaining. I watch very few television shows. I enjoy Forensic Evidence, Without a trace, and other shows primarily on A&E or BIO. Then I started watching Ghost Hunters.

I have to say, personalities aside, I liked their approach. I did NOT like the inter-personal drama that took place on every show, but in general, I found them to be pretty sincere.

Since then, being a freelance writer, I have written several articles on some of the people involved in the Paranormal. Jason Hawes, Brian Harnois, Chip Coffey, and there are others in the works. Since I have made writing my career, I spend a lot of time now searching the Internet for "Paranormal" Groups. It is here, that I have encountered some of the most absurd, mind boggling hypocrisy, and cannot believe that some people actually buy into this stuff!

I know, I said I was a believer, and I am. However, when I see people feeding into people's fears, more than providing facts and information, it angers me. THESE are the one's who give the Paranormal, and Paranormal investigating a bad name!

On any of the following "issues" I have with Paranormal "proof" and devices, I welcome any intelligent reparte. If you are a paranormal investigator, and wish to discuss this, please feel free to contact me.

Are orbs real?

Orbs, huh? How about TTTD?

I have a real problem with Orbs, and I know many Paranormal Investigators swear by them. From what I have seen, and encountered, they can more often than not be explained as dust, light reflection, or rain! If some of the photos I've seen are truly orbs, then I have a million of them flying around my house! (Dusty place). I must have half a million of them flying out of my sofa every time I sit down! Now, Orbs that produce light are a different matter. Orb Light Phenomena I'm still waiting on the jury.

Okay, what's next? Oh, yes, "TTTD". You may be wondering what that is. No, it's not the device for the deaf. This little wonder was brought into focus by a man named Michael Moon. It means, "Telephone To The Dead". Im going to give you a minute to digest this...Ready? Mr. Moon believes this is what Thomas Edison was working on shortly before he passed away. Now, he believes he has tapped into the technology that enables him to Telephone the dead (I'd hate to see his Long Distance bill!). I mean no disrespect to Mr. Moon, really...but I would have to see it, hear it, be allowed every means to disprove it, and then, maybe...well, maybe. However, on seeing the website, I found that for a Q&A about the TTTD " Cost of the Event is $25 per person, or $40 per couple, payable via paypal to xxxxxxx" hmmmm. I'm sorry, but for $25, I want to talk to EVERY member of my family that has passed away. Well, maybe not that much, but I consider myself smarter than the average bear. I am a little naive, but I'm not stupid. I want my Mother to call me, and I'll know it's her because she will say "What in the HELL do you think you are doing spending money on this, young lady?" Yeah, that's it, then I'll believe.

Who knows, though, it may be standard equipment for Pararnormal investiators of the future. After all, there are people who think I am crazy just for believing in the Paranormal to begin with. WELL...at least I didn't call them on the phone to experience them! I wonder if you'd need a special line for that. It would be kind of neat. "Hi, Dad? I know I'm 48 now, but I could sure use your advise."

I went to one site that I was initially impressed by, until I read their motto: "There is no such thing as darkness; only the failure to see past it." Umm, excuse me, but...How can one see Past something that isn't there? Well, that had me scratching my head. I shouldn't judge on that alone...but hey, it's a stupid motto!

Something else that bothers me about websites for a lot of the Paranormal Investigators is that they use demonic pictures and scare tactics. Personally, yes, I believe there are demonic forces, I also believe that battle has been fought and won by someone much stronger than any Paranormal Investigator! I believe most "hauntings" or experiences with the other side are harmless. Not all, but most.

So what do you think?

Are you a skeptic with an open mind? Do you think it's all hogwash? Everyone is entitled to my opinion...er, I mean, their own opinion! I'd really like to hear what you think on this topic, and the paranormal in general. Please leave me some feedback. You can also find more of my stories here

I welcome feedback, news on legitimate Paranormal Investigations, and Psychics.

Great Hub! I would like to believe it is possible to communicate somehow with relatives that have passed on; however, I have never had a personal experience.

I was very close to my Grandparents of both sides and my Dad who used to call me daily even though he lived a couple of hundred miles away. All of whom have passed. I have never experienced any type of connection since thier deaths.

Still waiting for my phone call from my Dad. However, I will not be spending $25 smackers to do it. I will wait for his contact with me first :)

Yes, healthy skepticism is a good idea. However, I do believe we can make spiritual connections in our dreams. Thanks for sharing this hub. Feel free to see how I try to help others in new ways. Sincerely: Gary Eby, author and therapist.
