If you are a parent of a child who suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome and is prone to indulging in aggressive behavior, there are two very important things that you should know of.

Children with Aspergers can be difficult to handle but you should know that a good child behavior program can be of great help to your child. The aim of this write up is to give you information that can help you in understanding Aspergers and how it can be dealt with effectively.

For starters, you should know that the behavior in children with Aspergers does not occur out of the blue.

Just as behavior in ‘normal’ children is affected by different reasons, so is the behavior in Aspergers’ children. Remember that children do not create a riot without reason.

Therefore, in parenting your Asperger’s child, the first thing that you have to do is to identify the source of your child’s feeling uncomfortable. There has to be a reason, but identifying it isn’t always easy.

Inappropriate behavior in children with mild and severe forms of Asperger’s syndrome can occur due to any of the reasons given below.

· It could be because your child does not want to do something in particular. For example; he does not want to eat his veggies.

· It could be because he wants something. For example; he picks a fight with another child to take his toy.

· It could be that he is going through pain. For example; a headache or a stomach ache.

· It could be that something in his surroundings is making him uncomfortable. For example; loud noises, bright light, hot or cold temperatures or a bad smell.

If you want to address your child’s condition in the right manner, it is important that you identify what sets off your child’s unruly behavior.

The next thing that you need to do is introduce a replacement behavior into your child’s life. This replacement behavior should ensure that your child does not intrude into other people’s space. It can incorporate physical actions that your child otherwise uses as a part of his condition. This could be flapping his hands, jumping on the spot, etc.

While doing so would not cause an inconvenience to other people, your child would still have a channel to vent his feelings.

Remember that what works for one child doesn’t necessarily work for another. One child might like communicating using sign language, while your child might enjoy using puppets; and while one child might want to communicate using cards, yours might want to do so through pictures.

Every child is unique. To use this metond, it should be YOU, the parent who decides what works or not for your kid. After all, it is your who understans and knows what your child likes and dislikes.

If your child suffers from extreme behavioral problems then this process can be elongated, often leaving you with little or no spare time at all. In dealing with your child’s extreme behavioral problems, removing him from his current surroundings immediately becomes very important.

Being obstinate and unbending, and hoping that this will get your child to mend his ways, will not work in a majority of the cases. Changing the surroundings of your child in such a case should be your top priority.

Also, since children who suffer from this condition are known to find comfort in set routines, try and get some routine into your child’s life. This will also help in reducing the frequency of your child’s outbursts.

Remember that determined parenting means understanding how Aspergers affects your child and how you can find the right child behavior program that is suited for your kid. When addressing children with Aspergers, it is vital that you identify the reason for the outburst, and also help your child in expressing his feelings in ways that aren’t harmful to others.

If you think your child suffers from Asperger's or Autism, you should:

  • Ask him to calm down
  • Identify what upsets him, and teach him a replacement behavior.
  • Identify what upsets him, and then keep him way from such scenarios.
  • Not to worry. Time will take care of this.
