80 / 20 Thinking

Having bought and read "The 80/20 Principle by Richard Koch " over the weekend these are my thoughts on the ideas in the book and how I have begun to apply 80/20 Thinking to my life and business projects.

The pareto proinciple is the main basis of the book I mentioned above and this is developed into a methodology for thinking in a way which emphasises and exposes the 20% of life which produces 80% of effects.

My take on this is to use the section on 80/20 thinking to filter my ideas. what this amounts to is a model which automatically only gives me ideas and actions which will have a major positive impact on my life.It is also a useful way of filtering out a range of ideas which I spend my time developing which will have no scope for making an impact at this point.

To establish the mental model effectively I've added a time limit to the filter. At present this is producing ideas which can be developed into something productive within 3 months.

I may experiment by adjusting the time limit and see if this produces larger scale project ideas.

At the moment I'm developing 4 projects, one of which is very long term, and three of which are short term.I'll let you know how these projects develop.

An Easy Read

The book I mentioed earlier is one of those which I have read in a weekend. A couple of hundred pages of text whit lots of diagrams and illustrations along with personal experience examples.

I would recommend that you set aside a couple of days to read section one plus either section two or section three, then go back to it and reread section one with the other section at a later date.
