Paris Monuments
79Talk about France and immediately you think about Paris. Talk about Paris and the first image that comes to your mind is the Eiffel tower. One of the top ten most visited attractions in Paris among Notre Dame, Sacré Coeur, the Louvre and the Arc de Triomphe.
The EiffelTower
Many people don’t know that the area around the Eiffel tower is just as amazing as the tower itself. Although not as tall (324 m.) as many buildings in New York, on a clear night the beam of the tower covers an 80 km radius. The tower feels bigger than it actually is because it is located in a vast green space surrounded by small but not less impressive buildings. For example, just opposite is the Palais de Chaillot decorated in 1937 for the Universal exposition.

- Restaurants in the Eiffel Tower
Lunsh or dine with an exceptional view. 3 restaurants to choose from.
From the tower, the view is amazing as it stretches from the Esplanade des Invalides to beyond Pont Alexandre III. The best way to climb the tower is by foot. The last time I was there it didn’t take us too long to climb through the numbered steps (1,665) to the second level and the views are more impressive than just taking the lift.
Opening times:
The EiffelTower is open every day all year long, - from 9:30am to 11:00pm, January 1 to June 12 and September 1 to December 31 - from 9:00am to midnight, June 13 to August 31
During Easter weekend and the spring vacation the Tower remains open until midnight.
Prices:
1) If you take the lift you can choose to go:
- only to the first level (57m) for €4,80;
- to the second level (115m) for €7,80;
- Or go all the way to the third level (276m) for €12.
2) If you take the stairs (first and second level only) the price is €4
How to get there by metro:
- Lines 8, 13 to Invalides
- Line 8 to Ecole militaire
- Line 6, 9 to Trocadero
- Line 9 Iéna
- Line 6 to Bir-Hakeim

The Champs de Mars
These are the vast gardens laid out below the EiffelTower. Although the name evokes the God of war, the Champs de Mars even have a Wall of Peace. The park owes its name to the fact that in its origins, it was used as an exercise area for the young cadets of the military school.

The elevated Trocadero offers a privileged viewpoint of the Eiffel tower on the opposite bank of the Seine. The curved wings of the Palais de Chaillot have sloping terraces and gardens dotted with gilded bronze statues.

Hi Princessa,
My brother and his new wife are taking their honeymoon to France in a few weeks. I am going to send them a link to your page, if you dont mind : ) It has so much information and such beautiful pictures.
This is lovely Princessa!
I've been to Paris many times, and it is the perfect place for a woman to travel on her own (the men were great too).
It's a place where you can just get up and go to...when you get there it will all unfold for you.
I did all the great sites and sights. And just stopping in a bakery to get bread, and then the restaurants. So lovely!
Once I took the Eurostar over. I can go on and on...just thanks for these lovely memories!

Great hub, Princessa. Paris is probably my alltime personal favorite city and you have given such good clear simple advice on some of its major delights. I love that you can just walk and walk and walk and that the metro is so well maintained and easy to use and also that even in the smallest, most out of the way cafe you will get a decent meal and often a great one. Merci!
Ah! La belle Paris. Merci Princessa.
Don't believe any bad press about the Paresians, I back packed through France 23 years ago and met some great people at a place called Cassis on the South Coast. 3 of them were from Paris and when I told them I had trouble finding my way around the big city they invited me back to stay at their apartment showed me around Paris and gave me some of the best hospitality I have known in Europe. I know it was a long time ago but it obviously meant a lot or I wouldn't be talking about it now, thanks for reminding me of this great time in France and of the beautiful city of Paris.
Lgali: You do not need to know much French. Obviously the more you know the better but you can get by without speaking French. I came here about 4 years ago without having any knowledge of French at all and It was never a problem. The French were very patient with me.
Ardie: Of course you can share the info. I am planning on another couple of Paris hubs to complete the information missing here.
BKCreative: yes, Paris is one of the few cities where I feel safe regardless of time and place.
Robie2: You are right about the metro, it is really clean with some lovely stations (like the one at the Louvre) and the service is outstanding.
Tonymac: Thanks to you for your comment :)
Brian: I will never understand all the bad press about Parisians and French in general. It is so wrong!!! They are very friendly, helpful, polite and educated. The Parisian metro is the only metro in he world where I am always offered a sit :) Thanks for sharing your experience.
Very helpful information about Paris. Love Paris and visit it often. Please check out my hub about free things to do in Paris. i would really appreciate your suggestions and comment, leaving in France I assume you know better.
Wanderlust: Thanks for the comment. BTW I liked your Paris hub. I have added an official link to your hub as it would be very useful for people visiting Paris.
Thank you very much Princessa.
I'm in Paris at the moment and just loving it all. Great hub and what a lovely city is Paris.
LOVE all these places.
