Paris Hilton is going from jailbird to songbird with a role in a movie musical about organ harvesting. Hilton will co-star with Paul Sorvino and Alexa Vega in "Repo! The Genetic Opera," which begins shooting in September in Canada, Hilton's publicist, Elliot Mintz, said Tuesday.

It will be Hilton's first role since she completed a 23-day stay in jail for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case, Mintz said.

The horror rock opera, based on a stage musical, is set in a plague-ravaged future where people can purchase new organs on the installment plan from a corporation called Geneco. The catch is that if the payments stop, the organs are repossessed.

Hilton will portray the fame-seeking daughter of Geneco's owner (Sorvino).

"We saw many actresses for the role, and Paris sang it better than all of them," producer Carl Mazzocone told the Hollywood trade paper Daily Variety in Monday editions.

The director, Darren Lynn Bousman, also praised Hilton.

"I have auditioned at least 30 actresses for this role Paris came in and owned it," he told Variety. "She is this role."

Hilton gets surprise visit from parents

LOS ANGELES (UPI) -- Heiress Paris Hilton was visited by her parents in jail recently after the pair was sneaked into a Los Angeles facility outside of normal visiting hours.

CBS reported that, in an effort to avoid another media nightmare, authorities at the Los Angeles County Detention Facility allowed Hilton's parents time with their incarcerated daughter while the visiting center was temporarily closed Tuesday.

The family visit marked the first time the family had been reunited since Hilton was taking into custody by Los Angeles police Friday.

A Los Angeles Sheriff's Dept. spokesman defended the decision to allow Hilton's parents such unprecedented visiting rights.

"We went out and just helped a mother and father who wanted to visit an inmate get out of their car because they were surrounded by aggressive camera people and reporters," spokesman Steve Whitmore said.

Police sources told CBS that Hilton is being kept in the facility's medical ward and will likely remain incarcerated there during the remainder of her jail sentence.
