Paris Hlilton jail story
55Paris Hiltons Friends Find her Jail Funny
Were you laden with schadenfreude when a no-nonsense judge sentenced Paris Hilton to 45 days in jail for violating her probation by driving on a suspended license? You apparently weren't alone.
The New York Daily News reports a few less-than-supportive pals of the self-adoring, blame-deflecting starlet, 26, are having a good laugh over her upcoming time in the pokey, where, according to TMZ.com, she'll be allowed only two pairs of undies a week, one 5-minute shower a day and -- horrors! -- no makeup, highlights or hair extensions.
"Some friends are finding this hilarious," a Hilton insider tells the paper. "They are all making jokes about 'The Simple Life' and how Nicole [Richie, who was arrested for DUI in December after allegedly driving the wrong way down a freeway] should go along for the ride."
Meanwhile, a source close to Paris' frenemy Lindsay Lohan, who's currently embroiled in her own scandal courtesy of a British tabloid, snitches to the News that although the starlet "feels bad" for her frequent catfight partner, others in her inner circle aren't so sympathetic.
"Some people believe what goes around comes around," scoffs the LiLo pal. "Paris has done some terrible things. Maybe this is payback."
Hilton, however, doesn't seem to think that being forced to hole up in the amenity-lacking hoosegow is her karmic reward.
"She's completely and utterly devastated," a confidante tells the paper. "In her mind, this was never an option."
After Friday's ruling, "Paris was up all night," a mole reveals to E!'s Marc Malkin. "She doesn't want to eat. She goes from crying to being furious."
Furious is also a good way to describe how Hilton's mother Kathy reacted to her daughter having to do time.
According to the Associated Press, she hollered at one of the prosecutors, "You're pathetic," before sneering, "May I have your autograph?"
And, in what appears to be either astute understanding or complete cluelessness about the legal system, Kathy, says TMZ, was reportedly miffed that Paris was being sent to the big house despite "all the money we spent!"
The heir-headed blonde was equally incredulous, says the Los Angeles Times, supposedly sobbing after learning her fate, "I don't know what happened. I did what they said."
On Saturday, she emerged from her house for a tear-stained shopping trip with her mom and remained unapologetic about the misdeeds that landed her in trouble (on Sept. 7, the day after her DUI arrest, she told Ryan Seacrest, "It was nothing ... I had one margarita ... And I got pulled over ... I was just really hungry and I wanted to have an In-N-Out burger!")
"I told the truth," she pouted to reporters, according to TMZ. "I feel that I was treated unfairly and that the sentence is both cruel and unwarranted and I don't deserve this."
She says much the same thing in an interview with the June issue of Harper's Bazaar, kvetching that the police are always targeting her because she's so darn hot.
"I think I get in more trouble because of who I am," posits Paris. "The cops do it all the time. They'll just pull me over to hit on me. It's really annoying. They're [the cops] like, 'What's your phone number? Want to go out to dinner?'"
In court, Hilton laid the bulk of the blame for her actions on her hard-working publicist Elliott Mintz, a man so utterly devoted to her needs that he once raced her to the emergency room in the middle of the night when her peevish pet kinkajou bit her.
She testified that he gave her faulty information that led her to believe she could get behind the wheel for "work-related" duties, a mix-up that prompted Paris and her faithful flack to part ways over the weekend.
"To the extent that I have miscommunicated information I received from her attorneys ... I am deeply and profoundly sorry," he said in a statement (via TMZ). "I told her that I assume personal responsibility for my part in this matter. I believe when stated in court that she believed it was OK for her to drive under certain circumstances she was being absolutely truthful ... Paris is a wonderful person and does not deserve the punishment that was handed down by the court. I only wish her my best."
Mintz's mea culpa worked: Hilton rehired him on Monday.

Wow, I remember hearing of this situation with PH and feeling like if she was so devastated over having to spend such a short time in county lock-up, she really hasn't a clue what tragedy actually is. I'm sure it WAS hard on her...jail is hard on ANYONE who ends up there.Welcome to the real world, Paris. Some lessons are tough, and nope, even all of your money and good looks can't always get you off the hook.***BUT***Like I said, jail IS tough..really tough. That struggle should not be ignored, even if the person suffering happens to be someone famous and beautiful...even spoiled, perhaps. Paris may have been spoiled, but her jail cell was just as small with HER in it as it would have been for anyone else.Just my thoughts, for what they're worth.Peace...and best wishes to Paris. :)
