Josh Charles is a musician/Activist/ piano playing/song writer living in Brooklyn, N.Y. He’s trying to make the world a better place starting in New Orleans with his song Healing Times. Besides being a sports fan, Alyssa Milano supports global public health, neglected tropical diseases that threaten millions throughout the developing world each year, but for just 50 cents.

Books for Africa work with publishers, book stores, and the community to bring books to needy children in schools and libraries across Africa. To support BFA, Barefoot Books reduced the cost of selected books with African themes. When you purchase a book from their Books for Africa Collection, they will send it directly to a child in need.

Stand Up to Hate Groups

All that is necessary for evil to prevail is for good people to do nothing. -Edmund Burke

Southern Poverty Law Center has a map of hate groups in the United States. WOW – what a sad reputation for the “Land of the Free and Home of the Brave!” With all the poverty, homelessness, sick, hungry, abused people in the United States, we still find time to hate! According to the Southern Poverty Law Center website, racism is a grim crisis in America. Fueled by immigration suspicions, the economic catastrophe and the election of a Black president (who’s actually biracial), racist hate groups enlarged their membership again in 2008. The Law Center wants the people of the United States of America to Take A Stand against racism and intolerance attacking communities, schools and political debate (infamous town hall meetings). You can sign up on the website.

It's a sad fact of life Claire that only time and prayer to God can cure, being of a mixed racial background myself B/W,I'm always disturbed by such findings on the tele and the web!

On both sides of the coin black and white, there are equally dreadful mindsets and customs and feelings of (1)pain,(2)fear and (3)outrage that need's to be cured on both sides, those three virals spread like the air we breathe, just when you think it's over, some "depraved gangster" or "heartless bigot" do something nuts to start that "downward spiral" all over again!

Thanks for sharing this hub Claire,I know it came from the right place in your heart!:D

Great article Claire! Kirstie Alley is also very much into charity work. A few months ago she had that Aquathon, in Twitter, which raised enough for 2 pumps to be installed, so people so desperately needed clean water will have it. I have huge respect for all these people that put their money, time, and support into these worth causes. Thank you for bringing these others to my attention. One day I hope that I can do more than just spread the word about this.

Thanks for "participating" it is far, far better to do something, anything - then to do nothing. You have no idea how many people you influence daily. "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits." Proverbs 18:21 There is power in your words, and spreading the words does much.

A request from ItStartsWith.Us as easy as writing a letter or sending a email:

This morning I got an email from one of our team members telling me about a little 5-year-old girl named Kate McRae. This summer her parents learned that she has a massive brain tumor. The surgeons were able to remove 50% of it, but there's still a large amount left that's inoperable.

Write a letter of love, hope and encouragement to Kate and/or her family during this difficult time.

Sending a personal, handwritten card or letter would be best, but you can also leave notes on the CaringBridge.org site if you wish. Personally, I'm going to tell my kids about Kate and ask if they'd like to write her a card as well.

You can send your letters to:

Phoenix Children's Hospital

Attn: Kate McRae

1919 East Thomas Road

Phoenix, AZ 85016

United States

(602) 546-1000

If you would like to get in touch with her parents for any reason, here's their contact info:

Aaron McRae on Twitter: http://twitter.com/aaronmcrae

Holly McRae on Gmail: hollymcrae@gmail.com

If you would like to share your thoughts or actions relating to this mission, here's the link to the topic on the forum:

http://www.itstartswith.us/team/index.php/topic,13

Thank you all for your participation in this mission - I know it will mean a lot to Kate and her family.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has~M.Mead
