Birthday Party Favors

I have been hosting theme birthday parties for my kids for about six years now. With all of these birthday parties, I would honestly have to say that the party favors are the most fun to plan. I don't know why I have such a fascination with party favors, but I just love putting together a favor bag. Today, there is so much more you can do to create a really cool favor for your child to hand out to their birthday party guests.

This page will feature my Top 10 birthday party favor ideas. Some of these items are things I have personally used in my kid's favor bags or items that are top on my list to try in the future. I also run quite a few other kid's birthday party pages, and many of the items listed below are my top sellers.

Candy Wrapper Foils

Make Your Own Candy Wrappers

#1 Candy Wrapper Party Favors

I purchase my candy wrapper favors rather than making them myself. With the time and expense involved with making my own wrappers, it is much easier just to purchase them. Although, if you are looking for a home business idea, this may be something to look into.

You can purchase personalized candy wrappers for standard Hershey bars, Hershey minatures, Hershey Kisses and Hershey nuggets. Some of these candy wrappers come with self-stick adhesive on them and all you have to do is peel and stick. Other wrappers need to be applied to the candy and then taped.

Most of the time the wrappers can be personalized however you would like. Generally, the birthday child's name, age and party date appear on the wrapper. Also, since standard Hershey bars no longer come with silver foil liners, you can purchase these separately to finish off your candy wrapper party favor. You can also purchase these foil liners in different colors to add that extra special look to your favor.

I really like the standard candy wrapper favors since they can be added to a favor bag or handed out as a stand alone party favor depending on your party budget.

#2 Cookie Party Favors

Cookie favors are something you can make yourself or purchase. If you want to make your own cookie favors, purchase a cookie cutter that coordinates with your party theme. Then, bake the cookies and decorate them in colors that match your party theme. Another option would be to bake the cookies on a stick. Once the cookies are finished, wrap them in FDA approved bags and tie with curling ribbon. I created dog bone cookies for my daughter's Puppy Party last year. I didn't hand them out as favors instead I served them as snacks. However, you can take a peek at them to see an example of what a cookie favor would look like.

Not a baker? No problem! You can purchase premade cookie pops that come complete with personalized favor labels. Either way, cookie favors are sure to be a hit at your kid's birthday party.

This is another favor that can be handed out by itself.  Again, a great cost saver!

#3 Chocolate Lollipop Party Favors

Chocolate lollipops make terrific party favors! This is a party favor you can make yourself. Simply purchase a candy mold, chocolate melts and sticks. Once the lollipops are done, wrap in a cello treat bag and tie with a coordinating ribbon. Don't know how to make chocolate lollipops? Find out how!

If you decide to purchase your chocolate lollipop favors, you can usually find them at your local chocolate shop. They are also available for purchase online. Chocolate lollipops come in every party theme imaginable. You even have the option of displaying your chocolate lollipop favors in a stand and using them as a fun party table centerpiece!

#4 Fabric Favor Bags

Fabric favor bags are generally made with officially licensed character fabric. They are sold in tote bag styles as well as drawstring style favor bags. If you are good with a needle and thread, you can make these bags yourself. Simply go to your fabric store or online and purchase the fabric for your party theme. Then, sew up the bag and add a fun handle. Here are sewing instructions to make a drawstring favor bag or a tote bag.

If sewing is just not your cup of tea, then you can certainly purchase your fabric favor bags. They are inexpensive and will definitely make a statement at your child's birthday party. Plus, these fabric favor bags, as opposed to your typical plastic loot bag, can be used over and over again. Therefore, the birthday party guests will have a fun party keepsake.

#5 Mini Pinata Party Favors

Mini pinata party favors are so cool! I came across them last year for the first time and instantly fell in love with them. They basically look like a regular pinata, yet they are smaller. You can find them in many birthday party themes. There is a hole on the top of each pinata so that you can add in small candies and toys.

#6 Personalized Favor Boxes & Bags

There are many different favor boxes/bags to choose from. All of these favors can be personalized and there are many different party themes available. Some of the party favor box and bag designs include:

Gable boxes: These favor boxes are generally white and can be personalized with your birthday party theme as well as the child's name and age.

Take-Out Boxes: I love these! They are your basic Chinese style take-out box that can be personalized for your birthday party favors.

Favor Labels: Party favor personalized labels are generally a square label that can be added to a lunch style bag. Bags usually come in different colors to coordinate with the label/party colors.

Party Bag Toppers: These personalized party favor toppers are generally sold with a clear loot bag. You simply fill the loot bag with goodies and then attach the label to the top of the bag.

#7 Crayon Favor Packs

I used these fun custom crayon packs for my son's Thomas the Tank Engine birthday party. They were really cute. You receive an envelope personalized with your child's party details and theme.  Inside the envelope are four crayons.

#8 Labels, Labels, Labels!

Today, you can purchase personalized favor labels for so many items. Some of these items include bubbles, water bottles, CD's, candies, mint boxes, crayon boxes, Play-doh, popcorn bags, lollipops, and more. There are so many options with these labels. The possiblities are endless!

#9 Theme Related Toys

Of course, theme related toys are always a good choice. The one thing to remember when including small toys in the party favor bags is to try and find items that are practical and that will be used by the children. When deciding on whether or not to include a certain toy in the favor bags, I ask myself, "Can this toy/item actually be used? Or, will it end up on the floor of the child's room and then thrown away?"

Some good favor choices include crayons, stickers, bookmarks, bounce balls, etc. Even though I have been creating party favor bags for years, I still sometimes buy a favor item and then afterwards I think, why did I buy that? It is a learning process.
