Pashto language is the Language of Afghanistan. It is also known as Afgani or in other terms Pakhto, Pushto, Pukhto, Pashtu, or Pushtu. The language is part of the Eastern Iranian section of the Indo-European languages. Although it is the national language and spoken mainly in Afghanistan, it is also spoken in northwestern Pakistan. It is estimated that 35% of the Afghanistani population and about 15% of the Pakistani population speak the Pashto language.

There are 2 main dialects of the Pashto language termed as soft or southern dialect and hard or northern dialect based on the pronounciation of the Pashto alphabets.

Pashto songs are increasing polular among the Afganistani people. Some of the Pashto singers have gained considerable recongnition in Pakistan as lead singers. A lot of these singers were banned under the Taliban rule however most of them have now found their voice and are able to sing. Many of the Pastho musicians have fans across Pakistan, Iran, Tajikistan, and Afghani expats in Europe, North America and Australia. Many of the Pashto song singers are able to sing in multiple languages such as Persian, Uzbek, and Urdu; hence the large fan base. For example, a famous Pastho songs singer, Gulzar Alam had to leave singing when the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal formed a the local government in the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan after they had banned cultural activities and molested singers and artists.
