Paul Newman, the unforgettable protagonist of countless films and adventure of old westerns, the actor with a smile more fotogenico the world, the sample of motoring and man business in the kitchen had created an empire of billionaire from salad dressings , Is preparing to die. To leave un'America and a family who worship him and a life that gave a place of honour in the firmament of major star.

After long struggled with a tumour that last year had affected the lungs, after being entrusted to surgeons and treatments, Newman asked his family to return home, where it intends to die far from the spotlight. The terrible news was reported yesterday by the British press and has devastated the world of American cinema that he saw the last great legend of a Hollywood that there is no more.

The actor, who was born in Cleveland and was grown in the Mid West more American, according to the Sun and other newspapers would have only a few weeks of life and does not want to close our eyes in the bed room aseptic the hospital in New York where, until the last, has tried to combat the evil of the century. But this tragic script that life imposed on him 83 years will not have a happy ending and Newman knows it. For this reason he asked doctors and friends back home, where it will protect privacy, perhaps for the first time, the lights of a life always lived in stage, public and always full of smiles.

To reveal the Americans that the protagonist of countless films and the winner dell'oscar as best actor in 1986 Color of money was evil pictures were circulated in June. Newman had been portrayed during an evening gala in honor of his foundation for children, 'A hole in the wall', which had handed over a large part of billion (over 200 million dollars since 1982) of the proceeds of sales of condiments for the salad of his Newman's Own. In those photographs, appeared on the site of Martha Stewart for the first time Newman had appeared frail and spectral magrissimo, as an image very different from that beautiful man who until a few months before had charm to sell. Already the actor had completed a cycle of chemotherapy at Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York and the diagnosis was not in his favour. Thus, in recent days, perhaps listening to the suggestions of doctors and perhaps pulling the accounts of a life that gave him success and love, had asked his wife to return in the villa of Westport, Connecticut, to die. Joanne Woodward, his wife since 1958 and his five daughters (three held with Woodward and two from his first wife, Jackie Witte) came to take on a wheelchair to return it to that campaign that he had always loved.

"They wanted to die in hospital," said a source at the English newspaper, contradicting almost forced the optimism with which his spokesman, Jeff Sanderson, continued to argue that Newman was still "optimistic and serene".

"Joanne and her daughters are devastated by the pain" a friend told the Sun. "Paul has spent the last week to put order among his things."

Generous as always, Newman would have given his beloved Ferrari (with his lucky number, eighty-two), a friend. "It is one thing that has made angry daughters, it is difficult for them to accept what is about to happen."

Newman had abandoned the set in 2007, announcing during an interview with Good morning America would no longer recited. "Unfortunately I can not do more to the level at which they are accustomed, had admitted the actor who had debuted on screen in 1954 in the film The silver chalice, ( 'One of the worst films in the history of cinema, was usually smiling) before to gain fame with a long list of titles that have lit the imagination of the public to half a century. A month ago had also relinquished his role as director of theatrical production of Men of Westport and mice. And now the public and stakeholders in the small theater in a kilometer from his villa where Newman had revealed the secrets of the trade to young promises, already is preparing all'addio. Yesterday actors and technicians, between the tears, they have refused to speculate on the last day of a man who, with his magical blue eyes and a smile all American, wrote the history of cinema.

One of the greatest actors of our time, no one was cooler, no one more genuine and no one who oozed our talent so effortlessly. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, he will be so missed.
