Paw Licking
69Why does my dog or cat lick his paws?
- Check the foot for a sore.
- Look inside the paw at the sore site for a thorn, sticker, or grass seed.
- Some sore paws are caused by dew claws growing back into the pad of the foot.
- Make sure the nails are cut and in good condition checking to make sure one has not grown into the pad.
- Check you Dog Food for corn, wheat gluten, and soy products.
Simply run your finger between the toes while feeling for an increased temperature (indicating infection) or obstruction such as a hair mat or dirt ball. Run your finger under the end of the nail to be sure there is no pressure being applied by the nail to the paw. Next, check the "thumb" nail (not all pets have these) making sure it is not causing trouble. The bottom of the foot between the pads and between the toes are common places for mat formations, throns, and grass seeds.
If you can't find the cause for the paw licking such as a sore and the nails are trimmed and in good condition you should check with your vet for other causes.
Pet foods are often times a cause to your pet licking his paws. Many foods on the market today are causing trouble for our pets, the foods are poisin to our pets. How did your pet food rate?

I also tried Dermapaw and was totally disapointed! My dog actually loved the taste and LICKED MORE!! and I asked the company for a refund and was told that not all dogs respond to it and they can't refund everyone that it doesn't work for!! Don't recommend it personally...not too cheap for taking that chance!
I have been using DermaPaw for two months and it works great. Personally, I think that the price is excellent compared to everything else out there that does not work, or hasn't worked for my dogs. I ordered it knowing that (just like everything else I've purchased) some things work and some things don't, every dog is different, and their website explains that pretty clearly. I don't know about you but my vet has never refunded anything that hasn't worked, and I wouldn't expect them or anyone else to do so.
I actually ordered 3 more jars of DermaPaw after I received my first order because it worked so well.
I ordered the Dermapaw and socks but didn't end up having to use the socks. My dog has been going right to sleep and sleeping through the night without messing with (licking) her paws. I would recommend Dermapaw to anyone whose dog has the paw licking/chewing problem.
The dermapaw is great. We read on the website and were also told over the phone when we called to order, that dogs do like the taste of it because one of the healing agents is cod liver oil, hence the need to cover the feet with socks at least until it soaks in. Yes, they will lick more to lick it off if you don't cover the paws. In fact, dogs will lick pretty much anything you put on their 'feet'. Well worth the cost. We ordered extra jars to keep on hand.
I ordered Dermapaw and the socks and they worked perfectly. My dog stopped chewing his feet almost instantly. He used to really go at them every night (making snuffling noises, etc.) driving us both crazy. I had already spent at least a thousand dollars on vets and other products. After a few days I tried it without the socks and it still worked great. His skin was bleeding and oozing clear liquid from where he had chewed it so much. The vets kept saying it was allergies, but nothing would stop his apparent itching. The very first night we used dermapaw he stopped licking and chewing and his skin healed up within three days. After years of looking (and spending) it's the only thing that helped my dog...and it's cheap!
You know, I can't even believe how fast this stuff worked on my dog. I've forwarded all of the dermapaw website information to my vet because he is so convinced, that he wants to try it.
Really, really amazing ointment. My vet told me about dermapaw and suggested that I try it.

I tried a product called DermaPaw - they sell socks too that actually stay on my dog. It healed her sores and kept her from licking all night long. They have a really simple idea for the socks and they work great. The dermapaw cream worked really well. You should try it.
