Here's a secret: I went through a furry phase. This poem was written during that phase of my life and is very representative of the way that I was feeling at the time: trapped. In the comments section of this hub you can see a conversation between Cris A and me that talks a bit about this poem's origins.

I simply love the feeling of this poem. I can remember the feelings I experienced during this time in my life by reading through the piece you are about to read and feel that this poem in particular is a very true experience of who I am as a person annd as a writer.

I consider this piece prose and believe that it is one of the most outstanding pieces I have ever written. The poem is pre-edited and I am not looking to change it. Thanks for reading! Feedback is always appreciated!

Paws in the Water -- A Poem

Her paws are in the water, damp, soaked and cold
but she will not move away nor embrace the chill.
She could live here, spreading herself thin on her dreams
or she could dance in the sea, if only she weren't afraid.
Time is a spiral, moving outwards for her
but she cannot join it to spin her way out of control.
She is trapped in this place, a world between worlds
and that is how it is meant to be. Few would understand
and she will not try to explain.
So she keeps her paws in the water. Still.

One of my personal favorite short poems.

She may seem trapped but I think it's her choice. But she will know whether she will change her mind or not when the right time comes. And so she waits. Still.

This is one serene poem. Thanks for sharing :D

Thanks, Cris. It's one of my favorites. My award-winner I don't want to publish here because I am almost certain it will come up as duplicate (and I don't feel like dealing with the hassle) as it has been stolen more than once. As have *all* of my erotic poems.

For me, yes, when I wrote this it was a choice. I was in college and desperately wanted to get away but obeyed my parents instead (even though I was fully an adult). I got out eventually :)

Ha! I know an award winner when I see one! *wink*

I'm glad you're in a better place now, or at least a place of your own choice. :D
