I have been researching the world of cash advances and payday loans for quite a while now and it seems that every time that I seem to get into a discussion about them, most people I know tend to have the same feeling about them. They feel that they're a scam, they take advantage of people who are in tight situations and they have outrageous fees that go along with the money that people end up borrowing. Although each of these points seem to be fairly extreme, it's easy to see why most people would have this opinion of payday and cash advance lenders. Also, even though some of these claims aren't exactly true, there is a little bit of truth to them whether you'd like to admit it or not. For example, the payday lenders do charge an incredibly high amount of interest for the money that they lend you, but on the other hand anyone who received a payday loan knows this before the lender gives them their money. So, I would hardly call these types of loans a scam and if used like they're intended to be used, in one-time, emergency and unexpected situations where money is needed very quickly, a payday cash advance can actually be very helpful.

If you're currently considering getting a cash advance and would like some more information about what you could potentially be getting yourself into, then this article will help you educate yourself and help you set some expectations for what the loan process is really like and the benefits and drawbacks of applying for these types of fast cash loans.

Overview Of Payday Cash Advances

A payday cash advance is made to help out with one type of situation and one type of situation only. The only time that you should even be considering diving into the sometimes confusing world of cash advances and payday loans is if you have found yourself in an unexpected situation where your cash flow is too tight to take care of it. These types of loans are not made to be utilized for covering everyday type of expenses, but if you are in a situation where you won't have enough money to feed your family until your next payday, then considering this method of getting yourself into these types of quick loans might just be your only option. Of course, if you have the ability to ask your friends, family or co-workers to let you borrow some money temporarily, then you should definitely choose this route as it will save you quite a bit of money in fees and hey, that's what they're for, right? Even if you're scared or embarrassed to ask for help from these types of people who are in your lives, it will be a much better choice for you in the long run financially, so you should ask them before you start any discussions with cash advance and payday lenders.

If you still feel like a cash advance or payday loan is something that you would like to learn more about, then the first thing that you'll need to do is educate yourself on the entire payday loan process. The process if fairly standard no matter where you decide to apply for your loan, but there are a few differences if you're thinking you would like to apply for online payday loans as opposed to one that you would apply for in a retail store location. The following step-by-step list is how a standard cash advance loan process would move along once you find a lender you're comfortable with:

  1. After selecting your lender you will need to fill out a loan application that will tell the lender more about your current financial situation. This criteria will be used to determine whether or not you will be accepted for the loan that you're applying for. Some of the information that you will need to give the cash advance lender would include your age, your checking account information, your monthly take home income, the state that you live in, the amount of money that you would like to be loaned (this should obviously be less than your payday max) and whether or not you are currently paying off any other payday loans or cash advances at the current time. Please note that a credit check is not past of this process as all cash advance and payday loan lenders always have a no credit check policy, which could be potentially help you get you the loan that you need.
  2. if you are applying for an online cash advance, then you could potentially be accepted in a matter of hours and as log as you have a checking account that accepts electronic transactions, you could be eligible for an overnight cash advance, which would mean that the money would be loaned to you and in your account by the morning of the next business day. This is what you would call a no fax cash advance as all of your information was qualified online and you weren't required to fax in any other supporting documents to prove your financial standing. If you decide to apply for your loan at a payday loan retail location, such as Check N Go, Loan Mart or Check Into Cash, then you could be approved that same day in a matter of minutes, which means that you could potentially have the money that you need in your hands before walking out of the door.
  3. As your loan payment becomes due, you will usually pay it back one of two ways. If you received your cash advance online, then the lender will withdrawal the amount of the loan plus fees directly from your checking account. The fees for these types of cash advances can run anywhere from $10 to $35 per $100 that you borrow, so be aware of what fees you will be needing to pay once your loan is due. If you received your loan from a retail store location then you would have written the lender a post-dated check that included the loaned amount plus fees that could be cashed 14 days (or however long your loan was) after they give you the loan.

This is a fairly simple process, but you just need to make sure that you are aware of what each step entails and what all you're responsible throughout the process. Also, you don't want to be surprised by any types of extra fees or other expenses once your loan is due, so be sure to find out all of the information that you can up front and that you get the loan paid off and taken care of as soon as you possibly can.

Retail Store Or Online Cash Advance?

One of the first decisions that you'll have to make is whether you would like to apply for your cash advance loan from a retail store type of lender that you have probably seen in a strip mall before, or if you're comfortable with going online for your loan. As more people have gotten used to making all types of important financial transactions online, the amount of online cash advance lenders has grown significantly as well. Deciding which route you take when getting your quick cash loan is probably going to depend mostly on what you feel most comfortable with and if you'd rather just go online and do it to save you some time, hassle and potential embarrassment of going into a retail store location.

Both of these types of loans are completely legitimate methods of getting a cash advance, but just like when you're doing any other type of business that involves exchanging money, you just need to really do your research on the lenders so that you have no concerns about how your loan will be taken care of. Besides your comfort level and convenience there are also a couple of other reasons why you might want to choose to get your cash advance online and not in a retail store. These reasons include:

  • Some online lenders, such as Magnum Cash Advance, offer you some interesting options that aren't offered by most retail store payday lenders. For example, they offer you the option of only paying fees on the money you're loaned while you need it, even if it means that you pay it back before the standard 14 days that most lenders give you.
  • While many retail loan payday lenders only offer you a 14 day loan option, some online lenders will be able to be able to extend to you a 30 day payday loan, which is perfect for those of you who get paid on a monthly basis as opposed to every 2 weeks.

So, no matter which type of loan you decide to go with, just be sure that once you get the money you need to pay off whatever you have to pay off and get the loan paid back as soon as possible (if your lender allows it). Also, never make applying for these types of loans a habit or you will most likely find yourself in a worse financial situation than you are now.

I did a payday loan once. Just once, my truck broke. In college, some of my friends were being sucked into the circle of payday loans and losing more money in the long run.

I think in the end for some of my friends, what happened was, they took out there loans (most of us being restaurant servers or host at the time), but maybe the following payday they didn't make as much as the previous week, they paid the loan back and took out another one etc...

College does a number on the pocket book, and you would think as college students, you would learn. :D
