Pazhassi Raja is a much awaited Malayalam movie that got released finally after a lot of delay due to various reasons. It is produced at the cost of Rs. 25 crores making it a mega budget movie of the year. The movie is also simultaneously released in other languages including Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Malayalam Superstar Mammooty, Tamil supreme star Sarath Kumar are in the cast playing the roles of Pazhassi Raja and the king's loyal guard.  The film takes place in the 18th century and is about Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja of the Kottayam royal family. The King was forced to throw away his throne, palace and also his unborn child amidst his fight the Britishers. Offended by the revenue policy of East India Company in Malabar, Pazhassi Raja's was one of the first kings who stood up against the British rule in India. The movie is about the untold true story of the great king Pazhassi Raja who was known as the Lion of Kerala and had lost his throne, palace and family in the fight for freedom.

Mammooty is perfect  in the role of Pazhassi Raja with tremendous screen presence and impressive dialogue delivery which is crucial for a historic film like Pazhassi Raja. Pazhassi Raja was one of the first to use guerrilla warfare against the British. He gets support from tribals whose leader is played by Manoj K Jayan. Sarath Kumar, a Tamil hero, is the one who steals the show as Edachena Kunkan, the loyal commander in chief for Pazhassi Raja. Padma Priya is great and has done justice to her role. Surprisingly, the action sequences are choreographed very well which I did not expect in a Mammooty's movie. Padma Priya excels in martial arts sequences...pretty cool! flying here and there with a style of contemporary martial arts... treat to watch! Love the songs composed by Ilaiyaraja. If you are a movie buff, Pazhassi Raja is a must watch. A historic story told with a  tight and racy screenplay with all the filmy elements with excellent acting from some of the fine actors in Indian film industry and the movie is technically well done.
