Peace, be still
63
Only when there’s calm and quiet within
Can the harmony of perfect peace ring in
Only when the storms inside are spent
Can the message of universal peace be sent
When the heart has billows tossing high
Of hate and anger, pride and Mammon’s cry
Can the voice of peace e’er dwell therein
When the raucous clamour drowns its soft refrain?
We look for peace to enter from without
With clarion call and with a victory shout
We quite forget that peace is like a spring
From out of each heart just a trickle bring
And join it all till with a common song
Peace like a river will surely flow along
Gathering strength from what each heart pours out
More mighty than any army the world rolls out

"Only when there’s calm and quiet within Can the harmony of perfect peace ring in"...

Shalini, awesome is the word
So true Shalini, it shuld come from within. All this talk and hubs about peace is making me more aware of my place on earth. Thanks for sharing your light :D

Cris - may I return the compliment? Yes, you're right - one is getting a lot more self aware and seeking here in HubSpace!
I love it! I love the image of collective peace -- how out of each individual trickles the peace that will eventually form the whole river. Very cool idea. Also... the word mammon is awesome :) Didn't think anyone else knew what that meant.
"From out of each heart just a trickle bring And join it all till with a common song"
That is simply beautiful.
I long so desperately to hear that song.
I've been searching for my voice and listening for all the others all my life. I know we all have it in our hearts. I know we will find it one day. I only hope I live long enough to hear it. I want, more than anything, to sing it with everyone.
Hi Benji - praise from wonderful poetic soul like you is praise indeed - so thank you!
Ah - Mammon - all those years of Sunday School, y'know? :D
Yes CWB - you will :) There seem to be more and more common, invisible people who are standing up and singing - so here's hoping that it swells to a song that will drown out divisions and strife the world over. Thanks for reading - and for being a wonderful ambassador of peace with everyone you meet!
Very nicely worded poem, Shalini.
Nice poem dear Shalini, thanks for it.
Thank you Lisa and shamelabboush for reading!
Shal that was beautiful...let there be peace indeed. :)
Beautiful poem Shalini. We should all give peace a chance. If every one of us each spoke out, then our quiet murmurs would indeed become a clarion call.
"Can the voice of peace e’er dwell therein
When the raucous clamour drowns its soft reply?"
Would be great to post this in the Religion Forum :)

"More mighty than any army..."
Nothing soothes the brute more than poetry.I like the visuals this gave me of peace flowing along like a river,if that tide is large enough no army can resist it.Every drop counts and this droplet is beautiful,Shalini.Peace is in drought, let it rain.
Thank you TMB - for that poetic comment :)
Beautifully written. I am inspired. You are gifted Shalini.
If we have peace within it will just burst out and reflects us inside out. Thank you for sharing your poem...your thoughts...your feelings=)

Lovely, Shalini, you are so right and said it so well.
Thank you Dolores for stopping by to read!
Lovely!! Peace has to flow from within, if our hearts deceive, it's not real peace.
Beautiful poem.
Thanks so much Kim - appreciate it!
