Ask Susan Peters Dog Food Review:
This can of dog food looks pretty good. I don't like the use of by-products. What I am shocked by is the fact that not all of Pedigree's food have the same listings. When you choose a different flavor you also get a list of completely different items in the product's make up.
Use of corn, wheat, or soy which cause skin irritation, hair loss, fever, ear infections, kidney failure, liver failure. dental disease, obesity, chronic digestive problems, bloat, heart disease, and hyperthyroidism.
Use of by-products. By-products are ingredients used which are not fit for human consumption. By-products are often floor sweepings from a rendering plant. "Animal by-product" is rendered product from animal tissues, exclusive of any added blood, hair, hoof, horn, hide trimmings, manure, stomach and rumen contents except in such amounts as may occur unavoidably in good processing practices." Pet food labels contain the words "meal" or "byproduct" on the ingredient label. Inedible byproducts such as bone, fat, heads, hair, feet and condemned offal are used in commercial pet food. These materials are sent to a rendering plant for processing into pet food products.
"Meat" is often rendered dogs and cats as well as other animals such as road-kill. When the source of the meat is known it will be listed as beef, poultry, chicken, turkey, etc. If the source of the meat is not known it is simply called "meat.
Rather than the wholesome pictures shown on the pet food packaging, rendering companies dispose of millions pounds of inedible waste each day including, heads, feet, stomachs, intestines, spinal cords, tails, restaurant grease, feathers, bones and dead or diseased animals rejected from slaughterhouses for use in manufacturing pet food. Amazingly, animals from research laboratories may be rendered into pet food as well.
Ol' Roy dog food, which is considered one of the poorest quality dog foods on the market, scored 5 out of 10.
The life span of your pet should be at least 20 years. Your pet's diet strongly influences your pet's life expectancy. Always look for a quality pet food which scores 10 out of 10.

Are Pedigree choice cuts in sauce with beef or chicken affected by the dangerous food recall?
Thanks
Gene
So far, Pedigree is safe from the recall
Is pedigree dry/can dog food safe from the recall or should we hold off until you are certain that there is no concern at this time.
No, you should be safe with this food
Is my dog safe eating Pedigree Little Champion #7036GCKKCTA 2202 1
i WOULD SO MUCH APPRECIATE HEARING FROM YOU.
My Rottie loves this food mixed with his dry and has had no noticable reactions
You are safe with Pedigree!
Are you Positive/Certain Pedigree wet is safe for our Animals?
I am wondering if Pedigree Little Champions was actually tested to confirm no toxins. Our pet died March 9th from complications of the liver and kidneys and with the same symptoms as reported by so many others with the confirmed toxic products. We also were feeding him Science Diet dry food. Our Ozzy is dearly missed.
Our precious dog passed away on March 5 with kidney failure. She had been so sick with the very same symptoms that others reported having. We desperately tried to get her well, our vet was wonderful, but she never made it .It had only been about 6 months since we started adding the Little Champions Pouch moist food along with her dry food . I really wonder if this is what caused her demise. We miss her so much, she was our constant companion .
HAVE THERE BEEN ANY PROBLEMS WITH EITHER PEDIGREE SMALL BITES OR THE LITTLE CHAMPION POUCHES BY PEDIGREE? I HAVE TWO DOGS AND NEED TO KNOW. THANKS.
No problems!
my dog (Tyra) died on March 9th after exhibiting many of the symptoms that were consistent with symptoms that were reportedly shown by pets affected by the tainted food. When I took my dog to the vet clinic, one thing that I did not mention (which I very much regret now) was that I had started Tyra on a new bag of food on January 28th, 2007. This food was a new version of Pedigree food. Tyra was always on Pedigree "small crunchy bites", but this time Walmart shelf only had the new version, which had a label that read " with meaty healthy nuggets kibble, meaty centers, the advanced anti-oxidant formula". Coincidence or not, Tyra’s problems started during the same week! The compelling symptoms include: increased thirst and urination, frequent vomiting (averaged once a day; thrice on the last day before death), loss of weight (lost 3lbs in 3 wks), lethargy, preference to lie in freezing temperatures for hours at a time, appearance of bloody stool (last few days), etc. I wonder if Pedigree has tested their product for any toxins!
I don't trust Pedigree's safety. I had to euthanize my very healthy Lab on March 2 after he became ill in late January - vomiting, drinking water excessively, lethargy, refusal to eat - I took him to the vet and was asked if he had all of these symptoms before the vet tested him and diagnosed him with kidney failure. We immediately changed his diet but he didn't make it. He was a very healthy 95 pound dog who lost 25 pounds in 1 month. I fed him both Pedrigree wet and dry food. I'm devistated by this news and fear for all pets eating any canned foods.
My miniature poodle became ill the end of December [up to that point he was a very healthy, energetic dog] and passed away January 19. We tried everything to save him. He had ALL of the symptoms that have been listed and after extremely costly iv therapy, medications, etc. - he passed away due to kidney failure! We are heartbroken. All Morgan every ate was Pedigree Little Champions ... were we posioning our dog???? We need to know if this food has been tested. We were given another small dog recently due to a family death and have just started feeding her Little Champions. Until further testing is done, we will no longer give it to her. We do not want to poison another pet.
I'd like to know where Pedigree manufacturers
import their wheat and wheat products (gluton)
from. Is it locally produced in U.S., or imported?
I have the same question as post #17. My parents black lab had to be put to sleep this past week due to complications from acute kidney failure. She was a healthy dog until the last few weeks. She was eating pedigree wet food. I have contacted pedigree and made them aware of her situation. I am also filing a complaint with the FDA about Pedigree foods. I encourage everyone to do the same. Without consumer complaints, pedigree won't do anything.
My two Westies had small amounts of pedigree chicken & gravey added to their dry dog food twice a day. They both became ill two weeks ago with GI symptoms, lack of appetite and excessive thirst. The male seems to have recovered but continues to be weak. The female however has not improved inspite of subcutaneous fluids and agressive medical treatment. It now appears that I will need to put her down. I understand that Pedigree has not been identified with tainted canned food but the symptoms my dogs have experienced is very suspecious. This is breaking my heart!
My mom's dog died 2 weeks ago of kidney failure. she always mixed pedigree wet food in with her dry food. "Lady" was a very healthy, happy, rotweiler mix, only 6 or 7 years old. it happened so quickly, she only had symptoms for a week before she passed away. vomitting, extreeme thirst, loss of appetite, all of the above. I'm sorry to hear of the loss of the above pets too.
We had to put my dog to sleep in late January with the same symtoms: vomiting (once a day at first, many times a day at end), lethargy, increased thirst. Lost 25 pounds in one moth Dec 22 to Jan 22. We fed the dog Pedigree wet food. She was diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease, but the vets could not figure out what brought this on. The many medications we tried never worked or even helped. I always though it might have been the food or something she ate.
We care for and show some of the top english springer spaniels in United States. Part of our feeding is with Pedigree canned food"Butchers Selects". How is that affected in this ordeal.
Could the food have had something wrong with it in June 2006? We had a litter of puppies while weaning from their mother mixed dry & wet pedigree & lost all 8.The vet performed blood transfusions to you name it on these puppies- They were eating the food fine one day & the next would not eat at all & all died within a week. They tested them for parvo and they did not have parvo...they were very healthy until we fed them the food.
AS MUCH AS I LOVE MY DOG LIL GIRL, I HAVE DECIDED TO MAKE HER FOOD BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN FEEDING HER PEDIGREE FOR A LONG TIME. IN THE COURSE OF FEEDING HER THAT FOOD, SHE HAS BEEN SICK AND THROWING UP YELLOW FOAM MANY TIMES. AFTER HEARING THIS, I AM MAKING HER FOOD AT A CHEAPER PRICE THAN BUYING. I GO TO ALDI AND BUY THE GORUND TURKEY FOR .79, THEN COOK RICE, CARROTS OR ANY OTHER KIND OF VEGGIES. THEN I MIX THEM ALL TOGETHER AND PUREE THEM, FREEZING LARGE AMOUNTS AT A TIME, SO THAT I WILL ALWAYS HAVE IT. I WOULD SUGGEST THE SAME FOR YOU THAT USE THE CANNED FOOD.
I am deeply sorry for all of the people on this hubpage who have experienced the loss of their loved one possibly due to eating contaminated food. I am post #18. After the pain my parents' dog experienced--not to mentioned the loss my parents feel now, I have made it a point of mine to make sure that any pet food manufacturer is made aware of any animal illnesses/deaths after eating their food. Pedigree is not on the current recall list--they are manufactured by Mars Inc.--I believe---however, again..I would encourage anyone who believes their pet has either become ill, and or died, and has been on a diet of pedigree wet food to contact Pedigree, and the FDA so they too will look into the manufacturing of their food. Pedigree will want as much info as you can give them..including manufacturing #'s off of cans so they can pass it along to their Quality Control-----but if is saves more animals...it's worth it!
I am very sorry for everyone's loss. Our Springer Spaniel, Shakota, also had to be put to sleep on January 26th, 2007, after suffering from unexplained diarrhea, vomiting, and excessive thirst. She literally had "water" leaking out of her from everywhere possible. Very sad since she had been perfectly healthy the week before. She was on a diet of both dry and canned pedigree. Sure seems like a lot of pets have died of the same symptoms that are being posted for the Menu Foods recall...
I had a healthy energetic Pit that suddenly started throwing up on a Friday, I took her to the Vet Monday and she said she was so bad we had to put her down. She was dehydrated and violently throwing up as soon as she ingested any food. All she ever ate was the Pedigree chicken in sauce, in the cans and Pedigree dry crunchies. I think it's tainted too.
Both of my little dogs became very ill after consuming Pedigree cuts in sauce. I had just recently started feeding them the food. They both are better now, but I was very afraid that they were going to die. They had bloody diarreah, vomiting, loss of appetite, and no energy. We are feeding them people food now and will until there is no danger of the food being poisoned.
My Lab has been very sick and vomiting, drinking lots of water..will only eat human food ..He is about 6 yrs old and I have always fed him Pedigree wet and dry food mixed together..Now, he will not eat out of the same dish that has had the food in it.. Please do some testing and see if this food is tainted like so many other dog foods..He is like a member of our family and I would be devasted to lose him..I have been buying this at Walmart for several months in the 12 can pack cans. I have opened 6 cans out of this 12 pk and have had to throw all of them away as he refused to eat it...check it out please...
Our healthy 6 year old German Shorthair is in kidney and liver failure and the only foods she has ever eaten are Pedigree. She began getting finicky about her food three weeks ago and we switched from Pedigree Large Breed to Pedigree Chicken and Rice. After her first two bowls, she had to go to the emergency room with kidney and liver involvement. At the vet she ate Purina canned with no problem. She eats turkey and Iams I/D canned for the vet. Thinking the Pedigree was safe we concluded she wanted wet food, even though she had never eaten wet food in her life. We bought Pedigree Butcher's Selects Grilled Chicken wet food. Our dog put in in her mouth, then spit it out. I called the Pedigree corporate office today. They make their non 800 number hard to find so you can't get through. They can be reached at 615-373-7774. I spoke with a supervisor named Judy Newbill after they didn't take me seriously. They took the lot numbers off my food; however, the oldest bag was thrown away. They are going to send me a container to submit food for testing. They are also contacting our vet. I also went to www.fda.gov to submit a complaint. I hope all of you who are having the same problems will call Pedigree and the FDA. The more who call them, the more dogs that may be saved. I aksed them how they knew their food was safe if they had not tested every bag. She stated that they tested the ingredients. Well what if the contamination occurs after the ingredients are mixed? Please contact Pedigree and the FDA if your dog is sick or has died.
I have been feeding my 4 month old boxer the dry Pedigree Healthy Nuggets with meaty centers for a while now, but I am beginning to wonder. This morning she wouldn't eat and this afternoon it appears that she couldn't make it off of the doorsteps and it looks yellow and bloody. If anyone else has used this food please let me know if you have had any problems.
My 13 yr. old mixed lab died on February 23. He had always been very healthy. He first was ill on 2/14 - vomiting yellow bile, lethargy. He seemed to recover completely and I thought he had eaten something outside that poisoned him and managed to get it out of his system. On 2/20 he became ill again and died the following Friday. When the recall came out I was amazed because his symptoms were exactly the same - seemed like such a coincidence. He ate only Pedrigree Dry food - small crunchy bites. We miss him so much. So sorry for anyone going through this. Please be careful - make your own food.
I sent Pedigree an email almost a week ago asking about where their wheat & gluten came from. OF course I have not heard from them which does not surprise me. I just stopped adding Pedigree cuts & gravy to my dogs Pedigree small crunchy bits dry food because of comments on the web page. I was using ground stlye Pedigree & switched to the other about 4 months ago. He has thrown up his food on occasion & also the yellow foam. He eats well & drinks water normaly but sometimes he will not eat his two meals a dy just one.. He has been aciting like he is in pain on his rib cage & lower belly & jumped away from me when he knew I was going to pick him up just recently. Where are the dogs kidneys located? I stopped the wet food 3 days ago and been giving him baby asprin for about a week. He his perking up now & not as lehargic. I will keep him on the Pedigree small crunchy bites for now. Does any one have any comments on the safty of this dry food??
TO MARY POST #34
I WOULD STOP FEEDING YOUR DOGS THE PEDIGREE AND ALL OTHER PREPARED DOG FOODS. MY VET AGREES THAT GLUTEN/WHEAT FREE BROWN OR WHITE RICE AND BOILED TILL IT FALLS OFF THE BONE CHICKEN, AND A LITTLE COTTAGE CHEESE IS GREAT. JUST BECAUSE A DOG FOOD ISN'T ON THE LIST DOESN'T MEAN IT'S SAFE (IN MY OPINION). I BOUGHT 2 CANS OF PEDIGREE BECAUSE I WAS ON THE ROAD AND MY DOG GOT SICK 2 DAYS AFTER. I'M CALLING FDA AND PEDIGREE TOMORROW. START MAKING HOME MADE MEALS FOR YOUR DOGS AND CATS. JUST REMEMBER...KEEP IT SIMPLE.....CARROT AS A TREAT WHICH HELPS TO REMOVE TARTAR....AND 1/2 - 1 CUP BROWN RICE FOR NUTRIENTS...OR WHITE IF LOOSE STOOLS, WITH 1/2-1 TBS LOW FAT ORGANIC COTTAGE CHEESE AND 1/2 - 1 CUP CHICKEN TWICE A DAY. MAYBE DO THE COTTAGE CHEESE EVERY OTHER DAY
REMEMBER.....WHEN COOKING FOR YOUR PET--
Chocolate Onions Raisins Macadamia nuts Fruit pits (cherries, apricots, peaches, plums) Grapes in large quantities > 9 oz. AvocadoARE VERY BAD FOR YOUR PET AND CAN BE FATAL!! ALONG WITH IBUPROPHEN.....ONE IBUPROPHEN WILL KILL A DOG OR CAT IF NOT TREATED IN TIME... EVERY MINUTE COUNTS. MY VET HAD ME PUT 2 OUNCES OF HYDROGEN PEROXIDE DOWN MY DOG TO MAKE HER THROW THE IBUPROPHEN UP. WHEN THAT DIDN'T WORK IN 3 MINUTES...HE HAD ME PUT ANOTHER 2 OUNCES DOWN HER. SHE WOULD'NT THROW IT UP...SO HAD TO RUSH HER TO E.R. AND VET HAD TO SPECIALLY TREAT HER. ENDED UP RACING AGAINST HER BLEEDING TO DEATH FOR 30 DAYS WITH 2 VET GIVEN SHOTS PER DAY FOR 30 DAYS. JUST REMEMBER...ALTERNATE THEIR HOME COOKED FOOD....THERE ARE SOME GREAT HOME MADE PET FOOD RECIPE BOOKS OUT THERE ONLINE. GOD HELP US
I'M NOT TOUTING THIS GUYS BOOK OR ANYTHING BUT THE INFORMATION AT THIS WEBSITE IS ASTONISHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND IF IT'S TRUE............WE AS A NATION OF PET OWNERS NEED TO SCREAM AT THE TOP OF OUR LUNGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HERE IT IS http://www.thedogfoodconspiracy.com/dog-food-secre
We lost our beautiful boxer Jake on 2/28, he was 11 years old. We are totally devastated. He was fine all day but then late that night he started to have difficulty breathing and his gums were white. My daughter and I rushed him to an emergency clinic but by the time we got there he was already in cardiac arrest. He died within 3 minutes. We only fed him pedigree dry food and once in a while the wet food. The symptoms don't seem to be the same but now I'm not so sure. We are lost without him.
Thanks John Delone comment #37 for the web address you posted. I bought the Ebook & it was woth it. It listed nine foods that are better for your pet and with safer ingredients also a wealth of information. I am goning to try one of the suggested dry dog foods that is considerd safe.. It cost about double but it will be woth it. As for mixing wet food with the dry I am going to mix Jr Baby Food with the dry. I am going to ween my dog off of what is left of his Pedigree dry food so I do not upset his tummy with a drastic food change all at once. You must also read about the 68 Dog Food Ingredients to Die for. Pedigree Dry Food small crunchy bites had about 9 to 10 of the Bad things for your dog on that list.
Hello my dog has puppies who are now 4 weeks old i have been starting them on your pedigree puppy food with real chicken & beef has this been on the recall list? My mother dog has been on it for about a month before her pups were born is she in danger as well? My other dogs are on your adult dog food is this ok?
Thank-You
Eileen King
My Shitzu has been off the Pedigree Choice Cuts & Gravy for almost a week now & what a difference. I started to mix a little bit of his Pedigree Dry Food small crunchy bites with an approved safer food with a with a couple of TBs of Jr baby food and added warm water for a gravy thee days ago. I am quite surprised how much more he energetic he is & is doing things he has not been doing in months. All he did was lay around & sometimes not eat. Now he is running around all over & not missing a meal. By next week he will totaly be off Pedigree Dog food. Go to the web site listed below it will open your eyes it did mine & get the Ebook I am feeding my dog food from a list of nine that are listed in this book that does not have ingredients that will make my dog sick. The Pedigree Dry & Wet Food has over nine different things in it to possibly make your dog sick & ingredients that are not good for them. I have been using Pedigree for almost 10 years and now that I am finding out the truth about these commercial dog food companys & what they put in their food I will no longer use it or recommend it. I hope I have at least helped somebody out.
I feed my dog a mix of dry and wet food. I've been feeding her Pedigree for a while now. But the last four days in a row she throws up her food about 5 to 10 minutes after eating. I feed her the Pedigree Choice Cuts in sauce with beef (the 6 pak). I am into the second can of the pack. I wonder if the new pack is contaminated. No one on the news or Pedigree are saying anything is wrong with this brand. But after reading all the above comments and my dog being sick, I wonder. It is so scary. What do you feed your dogs that you know for sure is safe???
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF PEDIGREE IS SAFE TO FEED MY DOG. I SEE ON THE CAN OF CHUNKY BEEF, THERE IS WHEAT GLUTEN IN THE INGREDIENTS, WAS THIS ALSO PURCHASED IN CHINA OR THE EAST.
TO JENNY POST#45 & CLAIRE POST # 46.
Please read my comment #44 I emailed Pedigree & asked them the same Question where do they get their wheat gluton a week ago & I got no response. Also I would not feed your dog any Pedigree wet food. My dog was sick from eating it I stopped feeding him the Choice Cuts & gravy I mixed in his dry food. He is now better and it took three or four days to see a big difference. You have to check out the web site I have it is listed in my Post #44
When canned dog/cat food with gravy or sauce became popular a few years ago I knew the reason they
were so highly advertised was to appeal to the HUMAN need for taste enhancement. These products, no matter what brand, are more cost effective for the seller and less substance/nutrition for the animal.
Notice how difficult it has become to even find "traditional ground variety" pet foods. Stop with the
gravy and sauce. Maybe the wheat gluten is used to thicken it. Of course, that doesn't explain the
current recall of Hill's m-d feline food, which my heavyweight cat, Springer, was eating until the vet
called us yesterday! So far she seems ok, but I can't afford to feed four dogs and six cats chicken
and turkey sold for two-leggers. It's been PurinaOne dry with some canned ground Pedigree for the
dogs; Fancy Feast canned & dry for the cats - please God, so far so good. No sauce or gravy!!
I hate to bust everyones truth about pedigree wet dog food. About the statements of ingredients--in the LEAN CAN WET FOOD the eight ingredient is WHEAT GLUTEN. I just wanted to let everyone know! I haven't heard anything about this line of food?
Well.. first of all I have 3 dogs.. one of which is a puppy.. I feed and have fed Pedigree for years... I still am feeding them the pedigree and so far all has been well.. No sickness or diarrhea ... Just wanted to share that.. but now after reading all the posts.. I am wondering too.. ?????
This is ridiculous and I might not buy any of the wet food.. use the dry and put either baby food or how about human gravy from the jar? Pour it on top and mix that in the dry.. ????
Well that's all for now.
Take good care of the fur babies.
I FEEL FOR THE ONES WHO HAD LOST A BELOVED PET AND ALSO THE ONES WHO GOT VERY ILL. I'M AN OWNER OF THREE DOGS AND, I HAD FOR YEARS, AND STILL DO, MIX PEDIGREE DRY AND ALL TYPES OF PEDIGREE CAN FOR MY BIG DOGS AND MY SMALL DOG JUST EATS PEDIGREE CAN CHICKEN. ALL IS WELL SO FAR BUT, I'M WONDERING IF I SHOULD STOP.
SO WHAT IS THE ANSWER? IS PEDIGREE SAFE OR NOT?
Same question as number 52! All these comments started with Pedigree being safe, and then it sounded like gloom and doom by the end. We never used Pedigree, but just bought it because we thought it was safe. Now, I don't know again! What is the professional, and not emotional, opinion on this?
is pedigree dry or canned dog food safe to give to my dog?
my dog was eating pedigree wet and dry. starting vomiting with diarrhea, and also a rash ( which was attributed to the melamine) . vet says no kidney failure, but also didn't do the blood test!!!
i would drop all manufactured food for now... just cook it yourself......too many coverups and stallouts on this deal......you're going to trust the FDA??? at minimum my dog has high levels of melamine, just maybe not enough to kill her (yet)
i just want to know about the pedigree puppy chow that is what i have been feeding my dogs for a long time know my female has just had three puppies and i have always feed them that now i need to know show i stop feeding them that because i was going to start my puppies on the wet puppy food next week is it going to be safe or should i stop feeding my dogs the food all together . my female has been on the dog for the last 3 years and that is what i have been feeding all my dogs this food for a long time and they have shown any signs
all i want to know is the pedigree puppy chow safe for my dogs i have three of them and my one female just gave birth three weeks ago and i always feed her this when she is going to give birth and when i start teaching to puppies to eat wet food it is the pedigree puppy wet food know is this brand safe for my dogs
Just like so many others who posted above, I fed my dog Pedigree choice cuts. On February 14, her health changed dramatically, becoming lethargic, but drinking excessive amounts of water. The vet thought it was simply arthritis. By February 17, she was unable to get up and was rushed to the vet. The vet did a blood test which showed a high white cell count, but no fever. They were completely baffled but put her on an IV to try to help whatever her system was fighting. By Feb. 19, we had to say goodbye. She passed exactly 2 weeks before her 12th birthday and had been a part of my life since she was 4 weeks old. She was a Malamute/Shephard mix and I miss Sundance every day.
Regardless of the misinformation being published, I can't help but believe that Pedigree dog food is as much involved with this tainted food supply as any of the other brands.
I read an article that reported a recall of Pedigree foods in Japan due to contamination within production in Thailand. Seems an awful big coincidence that this is occurring around the same time as a major US recall. Possible source of the gluten perhaps.
Our baby started having seizures recently (terrier-minpin mix). Don't know if it is food related but after reading all this I'm heading to the feed store for organic food. She eats Pedigree small crunchy bites with meaty centers--which of course contains wheat gluten
Has anyone had any cats with problems?
I finally received a response from the maker & supplier of Pedigree foods & they do not get the wheat gluten from the affected batch of wheat gluten that is involved in the recall . I am still going to take my dog off of these non safe foods as they still contain many unsafe ingredients for any pet.
Here is a copy of that letter:
In response to your email regarding Masterfoods USA, A Division of Mars, Incorporated.Thank you for your email. My 1 year old Healthy Lab is sooo sick. He has all the same symptoms as every other animal on this recall crap..(Very skinny, throwing up, no appetite etc..)We took him to the vet and they admitted him. He was there for 5 days and was doing 100% better until he got home and started eating his food again for 5 days. Now he is back at the vet and will not eat a thing. I've tried to feed him everything human food wise and he wont take a thing, only water and is throwing up yellow slime. My Vet told me to not feed my dog ANY DOG FOOD> HUMAN FOOD ONLY (which he will not eat either) and is 99% sure that the reason he is so sick is from the Pedigree dry dog food. This is the only food he has eaten since he was a baby. No wet food ever.... I pray he makes it, we love him very much. If your dog is on the same food please email me at kwranosky@yahoo.com. If I get enough emails I will send them daily to Pedigree until they do something about it.
My four dogs have been contaminated, they are 12, 13 & 16 yrs. old and they only ate Pedigree chopped beef or Chicken. We have spend over $2,000 dollars for medical treatments during three weeks and I still have to take the older one for IVY fluids twice a day every day. They have been my only babies (Yorkies) so I assume someone has to take care of this tragic situation !!! They have a wonderful doctor and my prayers are always with them. I am retired and can't afford to pay the bills. PLESE HELP !!!
My 13 year old Shitzu died this past weekend. He was otherwise healthy. He has always been on a Pedigree diet of part wet and dry. The dry is small crunchy bites and I usually buy the ground chicken or chicken/rice. I accidentally picked up a can of the wet chunky chicken cuts in sauce and fed it to him over about 3 days. 10 days later he is dead. He just quit eating suddenly and had a hard time breathing. 2 days later he was dead. I don't if it was the food or not. I think if he were still alive I would be making my own food.
I have a westie which is 1 year old. I found out that my dog has a sensitivity to wheat gluton. I have read many labels of dog food, and I find that the Pedigree chopped beef (in the pink label) is the only one "I have noticed" without wheat gluton. I mixed the Pedigree chopped beef with Exclusive (PMI nutrition). Exclusive has no wheat product. I switched my dog about 6 months ago. Unfortunelty my cats have been eating food with wheat gluten. My cats show no signs of illness, I am going to only feed them dry food and real tuna, and hope for the best.
My healthy six year old lab ate ONLY Pedigree dry food with table scraps since he was a puppy. Because I was cooking less I purchased several pouched of little champions chunks with gravy as a treat. Immediately he vomited and has diarrhea for days. Because I did not associate the problems with food I continued to feed him the packets.
His diarrhea continued and I took him to the vet who prescibed pills for the diarrhea. He became worse, lethargic with red rimmed eyes and a red anus. I remarked to the vet that he looked like he was poisoned. Next his hair fell out, then he developed a nasty skin yeast infection. Blood tests revealed that his thyroid hormones were non-existant. Thyroid pills, and anti-fungals for the skin, ointment for his eyes and he still hung in there. Next the flesh on his head seemed to evaporate and he had a skeletal appearance although his body looked OK and the hair began to grow back. Further blood tests showed a cortisol problem and he is now on Prednisone. I believe all of the problems stemmed from the poisoning from Pedigree chunks with gravy.
Gail...post #66. Don't forget that dogs often have a very difficult time with any changes in diet. They are bound to have problems with any diet changes. Things like bowel problems especially whenever then go to a new wet food. The pedigree pouches I used to use when traveling, but they were too rich for my boy, so we had to stop using them...even with dry they were just too rich. He is used to table meat in the evening with his dry, and eats pedigree can in the morning. He does fine on it. There are days thought when he doesn't want to eat. On those days I try not to panic too much.
As far as his other symptoms it may be the food, but it might be a reaction to the medications as well. My dog is part Shar Pie and he has skin infections and thyroid problems. Skin infection are part of his breeding, thyroid problems happen to a lot of dogs and often make a dog tired and thirsty. Predisone can cause some neurological side effects, and often cause the them to not want to eat as well.
With all the pet food recalls, we're all watching our little guy like hawks. I am are too, and just talked to our vet again today. As of now Pedigree is fine, as long as your dog as no specific allergy to it.
I hope your dog feels better soon.. hopefully all the sick ones do..:)
If Pedigree isn't tainted there sure are a lot of similar cases of pets being sick with the same symptoms.I also had to take my 11 year old American Eskimo to the animal emergency hospital last Wednesday morning 3/28 for vomiting, diarrhea, and bloody stool, the dr. called him depressed, I called him lethargic, and very very thirsty. Every time he would try to drink something he would immediately throw it back up. He had left his bowl of food from breakfast on Tuesday untouched, which is totaly unlike him, he likes to lick his bowl clean. He was put on an IV and given anti-nausa shot and a 5 day pill supply to come home with and an antibiotic (the dr. thinking he might have an GI infection) Now I wonder also. He has been raised on Pedigree dry, small chunks, and 2 years ago we started him on the maintenance brand of dry (with the green label) for over weight dogs with a TBS of wet from the Traditional Ground dinners or the cut meats in gravy. It is really a mystery going on now and very scary as to what to do. His vet has him on a Gstro canned Food right now, but he will need something diff. in the week coming up and it is difficult to make a decision on what that really will be. My dog is still "laying" around, but I am hoping for a positive outcome. Good luck to all of you with similar problems with your pets and my deepest sympathies to those of you who have lost you precious companions.
If you suspect any problems with Pedigree or any pet food (wet or dry) affecting your dog's health, call:
FDA Consumer Complaints: 215 597 9064Pedigree: 615 373 7774
The call to FDA is most important. If they don't get enough complaints from consumers they will NOT investigate this with regards to Pedigree.
Now my story:We have had a very healthy 9 year old male neutered Shih Tzu, who has never had any problem whatsoever. We took him to get his teeth cleaned and the vet found extreme level problems with his Kidneys one week ago. They asked about the food and we've exclusively given him Pedigree Small Crunchy Bites (has wheat gluten) and never anything else, and no they are running tests on his blood to get details. He seems fine, but the vets are saying his levels are so high they are afraid he might die suddenly regardless of symptoms.
After looking around the web, we believe there is a problem with Pedigree Pet foods. I know this thread is primarily about Pedigree wet food (which there is obviously a lot of people who are experiencing problems), but with our level of knowledge about our dog, his sudden Kidney problem and the recall, I want to do my part too.
Obviously there may be a problem that goes beyond or is different than Wheat Gluten (this is a relatively new problem, recall being expanded every day, and much research to be done on the part of the FDA), and if we don't report our experiences to the FDA, they will be unable to delve further into the problem.
So if you think you have a problem, save the bag of food, tell your vet, and call the FDA. Call Pedigree too, but please call the FDA as they are the only people who can help, and can't help if they don't know people are having these problems.
Don't know if it's a fluke or not; both my labs were experiencing problems with vomiting and diarrhea around the time the recall was announced- both ate Pedigree chicken and rice cuts n gravy mixed in with Nutro dry food... As soon as the recall happened, I took them off of canned, started cooking ground turkey and rice to mix in with their dry. Both are doing way better... Like I said, not sure if it's a fluke or not...
I have six dogs, they eat Beneful Puppy dry, Old Roy Gravy Dry food and Pedigree canned. If anyone has specific info on these products being harmful, I would appreciate knowing. Not rumors but some facts from someone who has a sick animal that has been on one of these or lost an animal due to one of these foods. Thanks
I was feeling pretty good until I decided to inquire about Pedigree dog foods, since I hadn't heard anything either positive or negative about this brand in regard to the recall. Now, I'm apprehensive and alarmed. My two dogs, a 2 year old Pit and 6 year old Golden, haven't exhibited any symptoms whatsoever from their daily diet of Pedigree Adult Small Crunchy Bites mixed with two tablespoons of Pedigree Chopped Beef or Chicken. I never buy any of the "in gravy" varieties because they're more fattening, so I don't know about them. It does seem that many of the horror stories on this log mention feeding the gravy varieties, though.
So when I hit Costco tomorrow, I'll be stocking up on supplies to start making my own food again. I did this for my old Golden Retriever, Wyatt Wingfoot, whom I lost in 2000 after 14 wonderful healthy years. He had been born with hip dysplasia, which I learned at his first check-up. My wonder holistic vet, Dr. Schaubut, recommended that I put Wyatt on a diet of home-made- non commercial food. He felt that store food had much too high a fat content, and very little nutritional value. Dr. Schaubut assured me that this diet, along with daily exercise, would help Wyatt build lean muscle to support those weak hip joints, while keeping his weight down. It absolutely did.
I followed this diet for most of Wyatt's life, and I can tell you that he was a healthy, lean and muscular dog -- clear-eyed, shiny-coated and full of energy. - His hip problems never became an issue for him even into his old age.
You can supplement or substitute the basic diet with many other ingredients that are healthy and safe. Your dog may balk at first -- you may have to gradually mix this with whatever he's eating now, and make the change little by little. Whatever -- just do it. Although it's a hassle
you can cook it in batches and freeze the basic meal, and just add whatever veggies you have fresh or just had with your own dinner. There are lots of people, vets included, who will swear that dogs are carnivores, and can't live healthy on anything but meat. THIS IS JUST NOT TRUE.
Dogs like meat -- and they do need the protein it supplies. But they can get the protein they need from other sources. I'm not telling anyone out there to take my word as gospel. I'm telling you what worked for me, and what I found to be true. Talk to your vet, read up, do your homework and make your own decision.
Here's the basic diet; adjust the proportions for the size, weight and age of your dog. This is the amount I made for one meal for my adult Golden.
1 cup cooked brown or white rice.
1/2 cup soy chips -(soaked & softened)
quarter cup cottage cheese OR quarter cup tofu OR half cup of cooked kidney beans
cup of mung bean sprouts, regular bean sprouts, cooked green peas,r string beans, lima beans, cooked beets, cooked kale, collard greens, cooked or raw carrot, l
1/2 cup of cooked ground beef, or boiled chicken with about two tablespoons of broth.
You can use canned, low salt substitutes for the veggies if needed.
My dogs really like this diet and do very well on it. If/When the dry kibble gets the IK from FDA, you can add it to the diet for crunchiness.
Good luck to all pet owners -- we will get through this.
My dog was experiencing similar symptoms as described in the recall but had no idea that it might be the food I was giving him. I had been mixing the Pedigree 'Small Crunchy Bites' dry food with the Pedigree 'Choice Cuts' when I noticed that the problem. When I tried to feed him the Choice Cuts alone he wouldn't touch it. When the recall was announced I became suspicious and went through the labels of the Pedigree products and they all seem to contain wheat gluten except for the red label ground beef which has been around a long time and I had been giving to my dog for years along with the old variety of the dry Pedigree food with no problems. Even though they are not on the recall list it seems real fishy to me so to be safe I'm not buying their stuff anymore. I just sent an email to Pedigree at pet.care@masterfoodsusa.com telling them that effective immediately I am discontinuing the use of their product. Maybe if enough of us do the same and it starts to affect their bottom line they'll do something about it. My dogs will be eating human food and venison in the future.
My breeder's dog is dying from kidney failure. Two weeks ago she became ill after eating the Pedigree Country Stew for about 1 month. This is a wheaten terrier, and her bloodwork levels were fine 6 months ago. She has been kept alive with IV fluids and subcutaneous fluids. She has had an ultrasound on her kidneys, they are damaged beyond hope. The breeder has contacted both Pedigree and the FDA. Pedigree has not returned her calls, and the FDA e-mails just bounce back as undeliverable. It seems extremely suspect that eating this canned Pedigree dog food coincides with kidney failure. The breeder has also recalled that she gave the same canned Pedigree to two of her other dogs, and they threw it up. My breeder will be putting down that special sweet wheatie on Monday; that dog is MY dog's Mom. So sad. All of this.
I have always fed my two dogs Pedigree dry with canned chunky chicken mixed. On Feb. 14 my Buster died. He was only 8 years old and was happy, healthy and active until a few days before he died.
Now my other dog is experiencing vomiting (yellow foam) and green diarrea. She stopped eating two days ago.
Why isn't the dog food in America inspected?
Reply to Ellen and all: The bottom line on why it's not inspected is because too much money is involved, meaning money being made by the pet food industry. Pedigree has not responded to my e-mail of concern and probably won't. Judging by the other letters on this website, they aren't responding to anyone, probably preferring to lay low until this all blows over hoping that they won't be recalled by the FDA. I personally believe that the imported Chinese "wheat gluten" which Menu foods used is probably used throughout the industry but a lot of the pet food producers won't voluntarily recall for obvious reasons. One major supplier/importer of the wheat gluten from China was: http://chemnutra.com/contact.htm , who I sent an email to yesterday asking if they supplied wheat gluten to Pedigree also, but no response yet (of course).
I went into Wal Mart yesterday, curious to see what they were still stocking and I see a lot of 'Ol Roy' and Alpo products still on the shelves which I thought were on the recall list, along with all of the Pedigree products, but they had posted a sign saying that all of the recalled products had already been removed "for the convenience of their customers". What a lot of corporate B.S.! All of these decisions are made in corporate headquarters with noone below that level willing to challenge their corporate officers, least of all the Wal Mart store managers if they want to keep their jobs.
For the record, my two dogs, one of which was really ill a couple of weeks ago (vomiting, drinking a lot of water, blood in the stool, lethargic) who I had been feeding a combo of Pedigree dry "small crunchy bites" (really sounds delicious, huh?) and Pedigree canned "Choice Cuts" of various flavors has improved since I stopped giving her the stuff. Also, my other dog, a Jack Russel had started wheezing badly recently and throwing up (about two months ago) and I had taken him to the vet to find out what was wrong and after XRays the vet and I thought that it was a respiratory problem. He was put on a Prednisone (steroid with serious side effects if used long term and expensive, but cheapest at Wal Mart by the way, if you can get the vet to write you a prescription) which kept the problem at bay and was the only alternative to putting him down. I tried to only give him the Prednisone when the symptoms started up again which seemed to be after two days. This dog had also been eating the same diet of Pedigree dry and choice cuts mixed until I heard of the recall. I stopped the Prednisone about 4 days ago just to see if there was any change and he hasn't had a problem with his breathing yet, making me wonder if the dog food was the culprit again.
My dogs are eating a diet of venison (sorry animal lovers, but I only shot one about 3 years ago and didn't waste any of it) and Milk Bone along with table scraps which I figure are safer than what they are selling. I am going down to the vet today to mention all this and see what he has to say about all this and maybe get some healthy dog food from him (if he has any, I'll have to read the label).
One last thought, the FDA it seems is only inspecting cans of food which they are sent by people who complain, meaning there are a hell of a lot of dog food cans out there on shelves that might still be bad, so for the sake of your dogs and cats, quit feeding them the crap until they do something!
My dogs have also had vomiting with the Pedigree Small Crunchy Bits They would vmit after eating it, when they would eat it they were loosing their appetite. So I completely took them off of it and put them on Natura pet Innova. It is an all natural pet food that uses Human Grade A products. NO WHEAT OR CORN. My dogs are doing great and they are acting much better. I suggest to those who do not wish to prepare foods to find a local dealer and purchase Innova. At the Natura Pet web-site there is a place where you can locate a dealer near you. This food is not available in Pet Stores like Petsmart and Petco. There is no BHA and BHT preservatives in it either!!
I also had called Pedigree and they were not the nicest on the phone and kept telling me that their product was safe. Which I do not believe. My dogs got into the bag later and vomited yellow foam with the dog food. So I moved the bag to a room where it can be kept in case they need to run tests on it.
Don't feed the Pedigree there are just too many dogs being affected!! The Innova may be a little pricey but you will not regret it!! I guarantee that!

Beneful. Its all she eats.
Cassie, 65 lb German Shepherd/Lab mix. Two days ago the dog ate nothing. Yesterday 7am, woke up to four piles of vomit and what I thought was incredibly thin black diarrhea (blood turns out). Thinking she's ok left for work, my wife calls to say she's having a problem, so I come home. 11am the dog squats and a STREAM of blood come out. 1/2 - 3/4 cup at least. Went to the vet immediately. Of course, she was dehydrated. Hemocrit was way down due to bleeding and clotting was bad (12-17 normal, she's over 100) They put her on IV fluids, and her bloodwork is improving. I'll be taking her home this afternoon and watching like a hawk.
I really hope its not the Beneful; its not on the list (which is why I was still feeding it to her). If it is Beneful, there's gonna be a lot more dead pets out there.
I had my dog for over 11 years and fed him PEDIGREE'S canned wet food and dry food mixed all his life. He was a very healthy and active dog that showed no signs of old age, no illnesses whatsoever. Then all of sudden about a month ago he was not acting the same. He stopped greeting us when we arrived home after work, he stopped barking completeley, wouldn't move an inch (exept when he would stagger to his water bowl) The drastic change in his behavior was obvious to me and my family. He had all the symptoms described by everyone else who has recently lost a pet. We called the MENU FOODS hotline and were told that PEDIGREE'S food was NOT on the recall list. So, we took him to the vet and he didn't really know what was wrong with my dog, since the dog food was not on the list. Needless to say, Milo died a few days later. The dog that I raised and nurtured for 11 years was taken from me because of what I fed him. How do you think this made me feel? Everyday I blame myself for his death (I can barely write this comment without tears). But now that I have read some of these other posts dealing with PEDIGREE dog food, it's pretty obvious that PEDIGREE should be included in the list. I'm pretty sure the makers of PEDIGREE know something. If the companies' heads would have any shred of integrity they inform the public, to avoid anymore unecessary deaths. They are not just "pets", Milo was considered a member of our family, a brother that will be dearly missed. Now I have to live with the fact that I might have killed my own dog and it's tearing me up inside.
I am so sorry!
I recently started feeding my dog 125 pound black lab male Pedigree Small Chunky Bites Dry dog food. Within a few days, he is now vomiting yellow bile and his stomach seems upset. Pedigree assures on their website that their food is safe, but after reading this ....and others who have had the same problems with Pedigree dry food, I'm beginning to wonder if this whole problem is BIGGER than what they're reporting. WalMart is still offering Ol Roy, Beneful, Pedigree, and Gravy Train. HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT TO BUY???
We lost our cat Max on 12/28 due to the tainted food. Now our two dogs, Kasper is a 1yr old Maltese and Daisy is an 8mth old mixed breed. They were both eating Pedigree small bites mixed w/ pedigree can lamb and rice. A few weeks ago they both started showing signs like our cat did. Vomiting yellow bile, loose stools, drinking lots of water and just not being theirselves. I threw out ALL the pedigree food in our house and have started makin their food w/ ground turkey and rice. They have quit vomiting and their stools are back to normal and they are back to their old hyper puppy ways. THANK GOD I think ALL the store brands of pet food are tainted. I will never BUY pet food again. My heart goes out to everyone who has lost pets due to this situation.....god bless
My heart was broken when my 11 year old Dog died of Kidney failure Friday. We had been feeding her Pedigree wet food and Kibbles and bits dry dog food. Only a week ago i was running her through the park and she was healthy as could be. Then I noticed the signs of Kidney failure . The vet Knew it was the bad food thats been going around. He said she probably wouldnt make it. I could not believe she went so fast after being so healthy and active Just days before. Please don't feed your pet store bought food. I should have stopped last month when the first Poison Dog food Brands were found. Now there is over 100 brands and more added every day. Don't take the chance. Find some homemade recipes on the internet.
John, I'm so sorry. Thank you so much for trying to help others. You are right in being fearful of using marketed products to feed your pets.
Thanks for letting everyone know,
Susan Peters
Is the stuff dafe or is it not ------I have been feeding my two dog canned Pedigree for years now...should I stop???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Pedigree is not included in any recalls at this time. I have received lots of comments and emails stating their pets have become sick on this product.

My 3-1/2 year-old cocker spaniels have been eating Pedigree small crunchy bites for about the past 2-1/2 years, have always liked their food and have never had any health problems until a couple of months ago when all of them started vomiting the yellow foamy bile like I have read about from so many others lately. I disposed of the remaining bag (even though I repeatedly was told that Pedigree was not part of the nation-wide recall) and gave them a home-made diet and the vomiting stopped. About 2 weeks later I started giving them a fresh bag of the Pedigree small crunchy bites and the same thing started happening (puddles of yellow vomit). I don't want to be an alarmist or say anything bad about Pedigree if their food is in fact safe but I LOVE my dogs and I really wish that Pedigree would just look into this matter more closely... just in case. I was finally able to leave a message today with a representative from Pedigree and I am hoping to hear back from them tomorrow and I am really hoping they can tell me that they are/will be looking into these customer concerns. I also want to mention that I called our vet and he believes that only a very small percentage of dogs who ate the wheat gluten from Menu were affected. I did not bring my dogs in for an appointment because their vomiting stopped once I stopped the food. I really need to feel confident every day that I am giving my dogs food that won't hurt them regardless of percentages. I really believe that Pedigree is a good company and I am hoping they will do the right thing and investigate... just in case.
Report this to the FDA in your state, as well.

My heart was torn into two when my 8 year old German Shepherd Dog named Shadow passed away. We had began feeding him Pedigree canned Choice Cuts. After about three weeks he had started getting sick and was not being his usal active self. It seemed as if his body was just shutting down. When we took him to the vet he couldn't even explain what was going on. As we gave him antibotics from the vet he still was getting sicker. Till the day came when he couldn't even walk out of his own dog house. I called him out and when he came out he fell down and couldn't get back up. I sat there crying holding him up knowing today was the day we had to put him down. We had tryed everything we could to hold on to him but he had been through enough. We had to wrap him up in a blanket and carry him to the car. At the vets office the vet checked him out one last time in case there was a little bit of hope but as the vet said it seemed as if his organs are just shutting down. I watched my dog have to get put down all because of something I was feeding him. It's ridculaus, and it hurts knowing he could have lived many more wonderful years if it wasn't for the food I had fed him. He was part of the family and sadly we had to let go. My heart goes out to everyone who has lost a loving pet due to the recall... May god bless you. I advice everyone to get homemade recipes online till the problem is fixed.
Sarah,
Bless you for your advice to other pet owners. I (we all are) am so sorry for Shadow.

My son and I adopted a 7 week old puppy from the animal shelter on 7-29-07. The shelter gave us a sample of pedigree puppy food for him. We started him out on this food because it was recommended. Needless to say the loving little guy started immediately showing the same signs as all the other pets listed above. We also took him to the vet twice whice showed no parvo. This puppy was so sweet, humble and loving for him to go through so much misery. My child went to sleep crying and asking if he was going to dye. I couldn't answer that question, all I could say is," I hope not". The puppy's name was Chance, because we gave him a chance to be loved and to love someone. But now I feel like instead of saving him from the unfortuant shelter demise, I KILLED HIM. such misery this little sweet thing had to go through. Please someone, please, stop these pets and 'friends' from going through this horrible death. Chance never wimpered or complained, he just wanted to be right next to you as close as he could get, until he died. I hope no other families go through what we have went through, especially the small loyal ones. Chance, you won't be forgotten, love you, mama and best pal, C J .

My beloved pet poodle named Holly, was taken pedigree can dog food for two years. All of a sudden she got real sick, from 7:00 pm till 4:30 next morning she was so sick and crying real loud in pain. We did not know what was wrong with her. she was drinking a lot and getting stiff. Nothing I could do to confort her. The next day she slept most all day. she only ate some milk with frosted flakes. she turned her nose on her pedigree dog food. Next few days the same. I had to do some cooking of fresh chicken to give her which she ate with delight. It is a week since this episole and she is still turning her nose at the pedigree dog food. I want my darling pet to live, so I will be cooking up her fresh chicken daily.
Virginia,
Sounds to me like the angels were smiling on you and Holly the day you began cooking for her. You are not the first to report such happenings after feeding Pedigree.
Good luck and God Bless,
Susan
After the recall on dog food I am looking for a site with healthy dog food. I just purchased Wellness by Old Mother Hubbert, Avoderm by Breeder's Choice and Chicken Soup for the pet lover. I thought all of these were safe. After I feed my dogs this food I found out Chicken Soup for the pet lover was recalled. The only site I found showed Artemis, Breeder's choice, Merrick, Nutri Source, Wellness, Cloud Star and Old Mother Hubbard as safe but another site shows Wellness and Avoderm are associated with Menu food. Does anyone know what can dog food is 100% safe for dogs? I was feeding them pedigree and cesar which were never recalled but they both have meat-by-products. Thank you, Nan
Nan,
Go to the pet review pages I have listed (just added) on this page. You are looking for a score of 10/10. Be sure to read the comments for additional information about the pet foods you are interested in.
In the wake of the pet food recalls and the poorly produced pet foods - selecting a healthy pet food is scary business!

BETTER FOODS TO FEED YOUR PETS AND WHYIf your dog has diarrhea mixing rice with their food and even some unflavored Metamucil helps to firm up stool. Pedigree is really not a very good food to begin with. Neither is IAMs Beneful Purina or any of the other foods you have usually heard of. The first several ingredients are usually corn (we know what happens when our body gets corn, we poop it out and don’t use it, same with dogs) meat by products (the take the meat off of whatever it is and you get the bones, feathers, coat, feet, beaks, etc) and white or brewers rice (no nutritional value, just a filler) because of this our dogs need to eat more to get the nutrients they need and poop a lot more too. Also…science diet and eukanuba are not very good foods either. They used to be but they were bought out by other companies who, to save money, changed the ingredients to fillers and by products. These foods cost about the same as the all naturals foods and you are getting pedigree quality food. You can check all the ingredients yourself. Stay away from the first 3 ingredients being corn, by products of any kind, and white or brewer’s rice. Go for foods with chicken, chicken meal, or any meats that don’t have by product after them, and BROWN rice. These are good foods. Try going to a specialty pet store and ask about a better food. Precise, Royal Canin, and Verus are all really good foods. When you look at the ingredients they will be along the lines of Chicken, brown rice (the only rice with nutritional value for dogs), and usually another protein source such as chicken meal (chicken meal is just dehydrated chicken, very good) your dogs will eat much less of the food so even though it cost a bit more you go through less food and it ends up saving you money. They also poop less, live longer, and are overall healthier. I have four shih tzus and I feed them Royal Canin dry food. 10lbs of that food last us over a month. 4 adults dogs eating only 10lbs of food between the 4 of them is pretty good! These foods are also all natural and organic so they are never involved in any recalls; you know your food is always safe. Go to your local pet store and ask about these brands (Precise, Royal Canin, Verus, Wellness, California Natural, Innova, Canidae, Merrik) many stores, such as Pets Plus, will even give you your money back for the dog food if your dog doesn’t like it and has programs such as buy 10 bags get your 11th free. It’s worth a try and trust me your dogs will love it.
We have 5 pit bulls and they range from 6 years old to 4 months and they have all been on Pedigree starting at 5 weeks. We switched once to Purina Puppy Chow because our local store didn't carry pedigree puppy in large bags. Well none of them got sick or anything like the above but they weren't as healthy with it either. By that I mean their coats weren't as soft and shiny so after 1 month we switched everyone back to pedigree wet and dry. Our youngest girl just had 8 puppies in December and we're preparing to give them pedigree puppy in the can when they hit 6 weeks the end of the month in Jan.09. Pedigree has never failed us and we were sorry we even switched in the beginning.

Are Pedigree choice cuts in sauce with beef or chicken affected by the dangerous food recall?
Thanks
