Pennsylvania Primary Blowout!
51Clinton Victory Speech
Obama Speech following loss in PA
Hillary Beats Barack in Blowout
So the much anticipated Pennsylvania primary played itself out today. The battle for the votes of Pennsylvanians has been a money-soaked, drawn out, and hard fought ordeal. One which saw more than 16 million dollars spent on advertising throughout the state, with Obama outspending Hillary nearly 3 to 1 (Obama spent 11.2 million and Clinton spent 4.8 million).
The polls going into today's primary were a proverbial roller coaster. Several weeks ago Hillary was up by margins reaching from the high teens to the low twenties. Then the race really started to heat up and Barack quickly closed the gap to within 5 points or so. However, this success was not to last because as the primary neared Clinton had a slight bounce back and with less than a week to go the polls leveled out with Hillary somewhere between 5 and 8 points ahead of Obama.
So that takes us to this fateful day. The day the voters get to voice their opinion, election day.
And what did the voters say?
Well it seems that the voters of PA strongly prefer Hillary Clinton to Barack Obama. She has won by more than 10% and 200,000+ votes. A big win by any measure and what some may even consider a blowout.
In her victory speech Clinton promptly declared that "the tide is turning" and talked of caring her campaign on to the next state.
Oddly enough, in his speech Obama played up that he had in fact "closed the gap" and criticized those who "didn’t think we could make this a race". Statements which seem hard to justify in the face of a 10% loss. After all it doesn't seem he really closed the gap or mad it a race in the end, does it?
Well no matter how you see this primary one thing is clear, its far from over for the democrats. The only thing left to figure out is who will come out of this a winner and will they be strong enough to beat John McCain in November...
We shall see.

You know, Steve... IF you were to count the actual vote totals from FL and MI, Hillary would be ahead of Obama in the popular vote, and probably 40 or 50 delegates closer (putting her under 100 dels behind). Obama's numbers in Bucks County (where there are lot of wealthier people- part of his core base of supporters) and the many small-town, working-class counties around Scranton and Pittsburgh should leave the Obama folks pretty disappointed (and the Democrats as well if and when they nominate Obama to take on McCain). If McCain pulls off a win in PA over Obama, there's no way Obama will win.
