With careers overtaking family life of any women in the urban part of the world, many women choose to lead the single life. The single life, fulfilling as it is to the people who lead it, is fraught with many dangers. Single working women living alone are easy targets of miscreants and crooks. This is the reason self defense and products for self defenseassume such importance as they do in today’s world.

Self defense methods are many including products such as pepper sprays, stun guns and taser guns. It is common to find women opting for marital arts classes today as it keeps them both fit and safe. This article gives you a brief idea regarding the use of sprays for self defense.

It is an extremely simple yet effective tool that can be used for self defense; there is an interesting story behind the development of this spray. It is said that a mailman who visited a lot of houses with dogs first invented this kind of spray. These dogs would harass the mailman a lot and hence he would spray the dogs with such a spray and disable them for some times while he delivered the mail and left the place.

Such sprays are made up of oleoresin capsicum and OC gas. These chemicals form a potent combination. The spray filled with pepper is usually sprayed on the face. This will cause irritability and pain. The eyes start watering immediately. Both men and women have used this spray. Nowadays, law enforcement officials are also using this weapon. Unlike the taser gun or the stun gun, sprays do not need registration and are much less controversial, not to mention a lot cheaper.

There are many effects of such sprays. These are serious effects and can leave the assailant writhing in pain for about three to five minutes during which the victim can escape. It has been known to cause blindness temporarily. This can last for up to half an hour. If the assailant is not able to see the victim for half an hour, they can easily escape to safety.

The spray will also ensure the assailant immediately closes his eyes. The assailant will have difficulty in breathing, making him lose his strength and rendering him weak. This effect will last for close to five minutes. The assailant will begin to cough uncontrollably. He will also suffer from a runny nose.
