The Perfect Family Vacation
55Planning the Perfect Family Vacation
Family vacations are a time for fun, togetherness, and making memories, but a vacation with the family can quickly turn into a horrible nightmare if not everyone is happy with the choices that were made. Kids get bored. Mom and Dad get frustrated when things don't go as planned. Everyone may just want to go home. Everyone is at each others' throats and struggling to get along. My family has been very lucky in that we have never had a trip completely ruined or had to come home early, but it took a lot of planning. Some family vacations were better than others to be sure and there were some rough spots, but all I firmly believe that with planning, the perfect family vacation is attainable. In order to keep the peace within the family and make your next trip the best one ever, use the five tips below which are a result of my years of experience serving as the family vacation coordinator.
Tips for Planning the Perfect Family Vacation
The first and best tip I can give you is to carefully consider everyone's likes and dislikes. Children's likes and dislikes change often so if you are not completely certain, be sure to ask. Although it can be difficult to find a vacation destination that the whole family is happy with, by carefully considering everyone’s preferences you can be almost certain that your vacation choice will have something for everyone to enjoy. Sometimes, it may take a little coaxing or convincing to get a family member to try something new or different, but try hard to choose a vacation destination that has the ability to provide a wide range of entertainment opportunities.
Another good tip I can give you is create a budget and stick to it. Regular family vacations are a great way to promote togtherness and understanding within the family. Family trips often result in lasting memories. The most important aspect of the vacation is the experiences you share and the time you spend together, not the money you spend on your family vacation. So, if you are not able to take a week long cruise or a lengthy trip to an amusement park this year, opt for a vacation location that is closer to home. Planning according to your budget ensures that you still get to take the perfect family vacation each year, but that you will not regret or struggle to pay for the purchase at a later date. There are vacation options for every budget so keep looking if you have to.
If your trip will be a "staycation" this year or you decide to stay closer to home, which is becoming an increasingly popular option, then your local chamber of commerce will be able to provide you with plenty of brochures and information on what is going on in your specific city and surrounding areas. Even if you plan to vacation elsewhere, the local chamber of commerce or visitor's bureau will likely be able to provide you with helpful information. Many local governments have informative websites for tourists and other visitors as well that can help you create the perfect family vacation.
Although some might think that vacation packages are for the rich who want a more convenient way of doing things, they can actually provide the everyday vacationer with a great discount over the normal rates. Airlines and travel booking websites often have flight, hotel and car rental packages that when booked together can offer substantial savings over booking each separately. By taking advantage of vacation packages, you can receive a discount that allows you to visit a location that you never would have thought you could afford. Check with local travel agents and travel websites to ensure that you get the best deal.
It may not seem like part of planning the perfect family vacation, but vacation insurance can wind up saving you from a disastrous getaway. The insurance will cover you should your luggage become lost or if you need to cancel the trip due to weather or a sickness in the family. Basically, the insurance helps to cover unforeseen problems that might turn a wonderful trip into a nightmare and provides you with a refund or reimbursement so all will not be lost.
No one ever said that planning the perfect family vacation was simple. In does not have to be stressful, however. With a little thought and effort, you can plan the perfect family vacation. The memories and fun that can be had on a family trip are well worth the time spent planning.
