Perfume Ideas for Father's Day
68
Still at a loss as to what to give your dad this Father’s Day weekend? I’ve scoured the net for ideas and I have gotten quite a long list for possible gifts which I think my dad would be ecstatic about. For the past years, I’ve given him an entire gamut of man things such as ties, shirts, leather goods and fragrances. Among the gifts he had received, his favorite was the Polo Cologne by Ralph Lauren I’ve given him five years ago. My dad is the type of guy who’s very picky on fragrances. In fact, he hardly wears one. But when he gets hooked on a scent, he’ll wear it every single day. That’s why this Sunday, I’m thinking of giving him another Ralph Lauren. Perhaps, a Polo Black or Polo Blue this time.
Fragrances are definitely popular among men. There are guys who prefer the traditional, conservative, “old and mature” kind of scent. And there are guys who are more experimental on fragrances. Think trendy and unisex perfumes. Better yet, think Calvin Klein.
My dad is the conservative type, nothing flashy and attention seeking, so it’s definitely Ralph Lauren for him. But for the young fathers out there who are into modern and urbane type of fragrances, I’d say Calvin Klein fragrances suit them perfectly.
Here are my top picks for Father’s Day perfume gift ideas:
1. Polo Cologne
The classic man-fragrance. This wood-chypre perfume leaves an intense trail. It’s green, spicy, and leathery with tobacco sitting on the background. The spicy-pine scent smells fresh and warm. Polo Cologne has been around since the late 1970’s and despite of that, this scent really never goes out of style.
2. Polo Black Cologne
Polo Black is a woody-aromatic scent. It has a quite restrained appeal because it’s soft, romantic and a little bit sweet. You can say that it’s a subtle version of Polo. The hints of sweetness are attributed to the fruit component of the perfume accords. For those milder, laid back days, I think Polo Black would be a great wear for the occasion.
3. Polo Blue Cologne
If your dad or spouse prefers really light fragrances, the Polo Blue Cologne could be the perfect fit. This is the type of cologne he can wear to work every day. The highlights of this scent are the cucumber and melon accords so expect a crisp and fresh scent that lingers.
4. Eternity Men Cologne
Eternity is a very contemporary scent. It was a popular scent back in the 1990’s and it has a huge following among Calvin Klein fans. I could smell this perfume on a lot of guys during that era. The perfume is so masculine, no doubt about that. It’s still a hit nowadays. The original is better. The spin-offs that followed have a weaker sillage.
5. Obsession Cologne
Obsession ranked as one of the top perfumes in the 80s. Twenty years down the track, it still has its magic -- the floral-woody cologne embraced with cinnamon spice. It’s a bright and captivating fragrance: citrus at the top, floral in the middle and musky at the base.
6. Cool Water Cologne by Davidoff
Another fragrance from the 80s, Cool Water is a fresh-aquatic fragrance. This scent is very well put-together, a bit sharp and undoubtedly very masculine. I never fail to recognize this perfume. It’s so distinct and not at all an olfactive challenge.
As each perfume exudes its own unique character, so do our dads. If you’re getting him a fragrance on Father’s Day, remember to give him the best scent that fits his personality. He’ll be a happy man on his special day.
