He lived from ((495BC to 429BC)). He was a prominent and influential statesmen, orator, and general of the Athens during the city's golden age. He was a descendant of , through his mother, from a powerful and historically influential Alcmaeonid family. He was called the "first citizen of Athens." He promoted art and literature. He started the ambitious project ((including the Parthenon)). He fostered the Athenian democracy to such an extent that they called him a populist.
