Since ancient times, people across the globe have searched for beautiful and exquisite peridot rings. Long before peridot was known as the August gemstone, this elegant stone was desired for its vibrant hues and tones. A peridot ring is a perfect gift for many different occasions and reasons. It's great for anyone with an August birthday that enjoys fine jewelry and has good taste. Peridot rings are also ideal for anyone who enjoys dark olive colors that captivate the eye. There's really no bad occasion on which to give this kind of jewelry. And what's even better is that peridot, unlike many other green gemstones, is not that expensive. This means that you can get something that looks absolutely amazing without having to go for broke. For this reason, a peridot ring makes a great substitution for emerald rings or other green gemstones.

Why a Peridot Ring?

Many people wonder why peridot is so often used in rings as opposed to other types of jewelry. The answer, simply put, is that they look absolutely amazing that way. Peridot rings have been used since ancient Egyptian times as symbols of wealth and power, and they continue to this day to bear connotations of style and elegance. The vibrant hues of peridot gems make for stunning contrasts with almost any precious metal - from yellow gold to shining platinum. Peridot rings have become even more popular since the gem was defined as the August birthstone.

Peridot Rings For Special Occasions

Peridot rings are perfect for many occasions, from religious accomplishments to secular celebrations. It's rare to see a peridot ring used for engagement rings or wedding rings, but this only serves to make it all the more worthwhile to choose peridot. The great thing about deciding on a peridot engagement ring is that it's a rarity that will certainly show others how wonderfully unique you and your intended are. Rings with peridot centerpieces and diamond accents look absolutely amazing and are highly valued. The glittering diamond serves to bring the eye naturally to the olive colored wonder of the peridot gem. Peridot rings of all shapes and sizes also make great graduation gifts, especially from schools who prized green as a school color. So don't worry too much if a certain time is 'right' for a peridot ring. For any special occasion, peridot rings make wonderful and well received gifts.

All About Peridot

Peridot is in the olivine family of gemstones and is known for its vibrant color and tone. Like other gems, peridot has a wide range of colors. The darker olive green color is the most highly sought after, the rarest, and therefore the most expensive to acquire. Darker toned peridot gems create a more striking contrast with lighter metals like white gold, which is why rings set up in this design are so popular.

Peridot has been found all across the world, from Egypt to Arizona and beyond. According to the experts, the best peridot gems ever discovered are mined from Pakistan. Between there and the mines in the San Carlos Reservation in Arizona, the world is full of high quality gemstones that are pleasing to the eye and to the discerning gemologist. What makes one peridot more valuable than the next is the same as any other gemstone and comes down to its color, cut, clarity, and carat weight - the four C's.

Peridot Ring Settings

Peridot can be set in all sorts of materials, but some are more popular than others. Like other colored gemstones, peridot rings are most commonly seen with light precious metals like sterling silver, white gold, and platinum. This is a personal taste matter, so you should only care about what looks best to your own unique desires. The reason most people choose a lighter metal band material is to set up a more obvious contrast with the peridot gem. This draws more attention to the August gemstone, making the ring seem more obviously beautiful. However, do not take this to mean that yellow gold peridot rings are not equally magnificent. Yellow golds make wonderful band materials for nearly any gemstone. Because gold of this color has significant historical and cultural weight behind you, it carries the connotations of being a symbol of status and wealth. Combined with a peridot gem, a ring set up in this style can be one of the most beautiful pieces on the market. This is especially true if the ring has added gemstones of other varieties for extra flavor. The combination of peridot, diamond, and gold has always been and will always be both magnificent and highly valued.

Peridot Ring Care and Maintenance

Peridot rings look absolutely fantastic, so there's absolutely no excuse not to take good care of them at all times. The most important fact to remember when caring for your peridot ring is that the peridot gemstone is significantly softer than sapphire or diamonds. This means that the gem is more susceptible to scratches and blemishes. Take care to be gentle with your peridot ring - keep it out of the way of harmful chemicals and physical dangers. If the peridot gem becomes dirty, wash it with warm water. The band material of the ring has its own cleaning instructions which are specific to the material itself. Gold, silver, and platinum each must be cleaned in its own way. If warm water doesn't do the trick, take your peridot ring to your local jeweler for some assistance. Sometimes a jeweler's ultrasonic bath will clean away what little else can. If you make sure to take excellent care of your peridot ring, this beauty will be with you for years and decades to come.

These are the beautiful! For some reason, I rarely see them

in white gold, platinum, or sterling silver. Most that I see,and at high quality stores, is in Yellow Gold. That to me makes them less appealing;these are just beautiful stones, and yes, I am partial, I am born in August!

Thanks Summer! I agree - peridot looks much better to be when set with white gold. If you can't find them in stores in your area, you can always try looking online. Just make sure that the vendor is trustworthy first. Good luck!
