Personal Branding and Googling Your Name.

One of the biggest questions I receive from people when they ask me how effective Personal Branding has been for me and changing the perception online to the proper perception that I want others to know about me.

Personal Branding is a concept that many people associate with businesses or a man named Dan Scwabel and building a resume' online for through Google and other social media platforms to promote you over your competition as you race for corporate positions. I would like to challenge that definition and replace it with a more practical definition.

"Personal branding is an effortless extension of you. Melding your character (strengths, talents, and vision) into a known entity that is recognized as an authority in your market. From this foundation we transform your authority into a strong reputation*." (YouBrandInc)

To further the example of the definition go ahead and click on my name ---> Brian Fanslau

You can see that there is over 22,000 things that are directly connected with my name. If you click on the Wonder Wheel you can see some of the most popular things that aggregate to Brian Fanslau as a term and those things are exactly what I do. I'm not trying to be hired by anyone and in the past few months I've had a handful of calls asking if I am available for a position or for a consulting title for their company. I'm 22 fresh out of college but I have the real life working experience online that they desperately need in this economic time.

What I'm getting at is that if you make Google your own business card that people can simply Google your name and find out the main points and a brief welcoming summary to you and your character. These days people are fired or hired on the basis of what they place on their social networking sites. You are in charge of what you say online and if you can successfully capture people who are looking for your services and you are on the top in your specific area of expertise and geographically correct you will spend less on advertising and you will see a larger return from your time investment into Search Engine Marketing and you will be proud of being the most tech savvy guy/girl in the office/home

If you are serious about Personal Branding and beginning the process of creating a great line up for people to see of you as they Google your name I encourage you to read this free report.

Good article. I still think that the best way is create "Personal Branding Landing Page” http://bit.ly/4x72WF

I checked your link. Not a bad concept but the problem is that people will not find that unless you give them the direct link or place that link in prominent places on your profiles. Thus defeating the idea of Google Me... I'll let the Link Spam slide.
