The Importance of Personal Development to Succeeding in Network Marketing

Some people can succeed in Network Marketing and for some people success is elusive. Why is this? Personal Development.

As much as we do not like to admit it, certain personalities simply are not cut out for success. Part of the reason for this is that they think if they work harder they will succeed. But, working hard really isn't always the key to success; working smart is. And working smart doesn't necessarily mean one needs to be the most intelligent (or conniving) person in the room. It means the individual must possess certain intangibles in order to succeed. But what if he doesn't have these intangibles? Easy - the person just needs to develop them over time.

Make no mistakes about it success in network marketing can be very difficult. This is because it is never easy to sell something. There will be a lot of adversities thrown one's way during the process of becoming a solid network marketer. However, if one weathers the storm and develops those traits that are necessary for success then the ability to succeed will be within one's reach. But, one needs to weather the storm of adversity and develop character in order to succeed. Relax though; it is not difficult if one really puts his mind to it.

In order to illustrate this, let's take a look at the common reason people do not succeed in network marketing: people don't buy. They may not buy because they aren't excited about the product; they may have been stringing the salesman along the entire time for personal amusement; they may not have been able to afford the product but were ashamed to admit it; and any other multitude of impediments to making a sale. Ultimately, it doesn't matter why the sale didn't go through. What matters is the marketer's ability to click his proverbial boot heels together and not let rejection get in the way of trudging onward. The person must also understand how to deal with difficult customers and not let ten difficult customers in a row impede the person from moving on to that 11th customer. After all, that 11th customer might be a sale! Weak characters can't trudge on to that 11th customer. This is why the development of strong personal character is critical to success.

Tenacity combined with honestly will lead to the personal development necessary for network marketing success. The individual must be honest about his flaws or shortcomings and then address how to change these flaws. The person must also be willing to put the time in necessary to make the change. This is what all makes a strong personal character. Again, this is all about character development because character development is the conduit to network marketing success.

So, if you haven't started your own personal development set a side 30 minutes a day starting now to read a book, or listen to a CD on personal development.

I have my favorites. I receive Josh Hinds free weekly newsletter, "Get Motivation," that fills me with great motivational messages. Even those of us who have been in Network Marketing for a while need our batteries recharged once in a while. Some of the books I recommend are John C. Maxwell's "Dare to Dream - then do it;" Steven K Scott's "Simple Steps to Impossible Dreams", and James Allen's "As a Man Thinketh."

There are many more books & Cd's, but what is important is the you make personal development a part of your ever day life.

If you examine the majority of network marketing companies out there, most of them place a strong emphasis on personal development. By encouraging the distributors to read books, listen to audios, attend seminars and associate with the right people, you create the right mindset necessary for success.

Great advice, without a recharge of our batteries as you put it we find ourselves discouraged and upset. Which is not very good for keeping our businesses growing.
