Peshawar

Peshawar is an exciting and lively city in Pakistan.

Peshawar is the heart-beat  of the North western province and the city lies at the furthest edge of the historic Khyber Pass.

The city is famous for its historic and cultural history. Peshawar has seen many fierce invaders and exotic travellers passing through from around the world.  

There are a lots of things to do  if you are  in Peshawar, for example the bazaars of Peshawar which are full of variety and unique articles for sale and haggle.

  The Kissa Khawani Bazaar is  perhaps the most intersting of all.  Merchandise from all over central Asia collects here, including: tribal Handicrafts Oriental Rugs , Afghan Jewalry , Wood sculptures, spices and a huge variety  of fabrics are available in the city.

Peshawar's name comes  from a Sanskrit word "Pushpapura" which means: the city of flowers. Peshawar’s flowers were mentioned even in Moghal Emperor Babur’s memoirs.

Alexander’s Roman legions and the southern wing of his army were held up here in 327 B.C. for forty days. 

The great Babur brought his armies through historic Khyber Pass to take control of  South Asia in 1526 and then set up the Moghal Empire. 

Over the centuries the Pass has been a  pathway of trading, migration and invasion by Aryans, Scythians, Greeks,Persians, Bactrians, Kushans, Huns, Turks’ and Mongols.
