In this article we hope to inform you of the most common types of pests that could cause problems for you.
Pest Control - Rats
Rats can be a problem in many house holds and businesses, they have the potential to damage stock, household items as well as potentially contaminating food and live stock. It is also possible for rats to spread disease to humans which can be very harmful.
There are various signs that you can look for to try and see if rats are becoming a pest problem. The easiest sign to look out for is droppings and tracks which will be found near to the rats shelter or at potential entry routes into your house.
Rats are most active at night, so if you start to hear noises coming from inside walls or under floors, you may have a pest control problem. The sounds will be of things like gnawing, climbing, squeaking and fighting. The sound may also sound a little like a scratching one.
Forms of pest control for rats can range from simple boxes containing poison, to electric devices which can cover large areas to deter rats from entering. It really depends on your individual situation. Small problems can be dealt with quite easily but if you find that the problem is a consistent problem over time, there may be a need to employ professional pest control experts.
Wasps
Pest Control - Wasps
Despite the fact that wasps do not transmit disease, they can sometimes provoke an allergic reaction in people which can be quite severe. Fortunately the most damage a wasp can usually cause is a nasty and painful sting. Single wasps are a common problem in the warm summer months but they are just a nuissance rather than a pest problem.
Wasps can cause more serious pest problems when the queen comes out in the spring to build a nest. The offspring of the queen will work on building the nest larger, sometimes a nest can become as large as a football with over a thousand wasps in or around it.
The main combat for this problem is a specialised wasp spray which will usually come with gloves and a face mask to protect the user when they approach the nest. Another useful tool for getting rid of a pest problem such as wasps is a small smoke generator which have the advantage that the smoke can spread to hard to reach places.
