Pet Friendly Vacations

Today more and more people are choosing to take their pet on vacation with them. Because we all love our pets and we want Fido or Kitty to be there with us to enjoy our vacation right along with us. But you have to plan ahead on several fronts to make sure you and your pet both have a good trip and everyone arrives back home safe.

1. Take your pet to the Vet for a well check a couple of weeks before your departure date. Make sure to tell the Vet what you are planning and howhe or she thinks Fido or Kitty will do on the trip. Your Vet may have some great suggestions to make you and your pets trip more pleasant.

2. Make sure all of your pets shots are up to date and ask for proof of this to take along with you on your trip.

3. Make sure that your pet is wearing a collar with a ID tag with its name , your name and a phone number where you can be reached even on vacation. This way if you and your pet become seperated and some one finds your pet they can get in touch with you quickly. Remember in most parts of the country you can now forward your home telephone to your cellular phone quickly and easily and if you put your home phone number on your pets collar the caller will still reach you even if your on vacation.

4. Be sure to check ahead both with your airline and your hotel or motel for their regulations about pets. 5. Be sure you bring along the number of your pets vet and locate a good vet and the phone number for the vet at your travel destination. If your pet has many health problems or a special health problem you should ask for a copy of your pets medical records to take along on your vacation. This way in case your pet gets sick on your vacation you will have the records available for the new vet your pet may be seeing while your on vacation.

6. If you are traveling by vehicle it is a real good ideal to secure your pet during the time you are on the road. A scared cat or dog may not come back to you at a rest area or service station.

7. If your pet has a favorite bed , blanket or toy bring it along on the vacation to help your pet to feel more ar ease while your on vacation.

8. Don't forget to make sure your pet especially a dog has plenty of water available at all times.

9. If you take your Pet on vacation in a pet carrier be sure that the carrier is large enough for your pet. If your in doubt take the carrier you've chosen along with you on your trip to the vet and ask the vet if its large enough.
