overview of this site

Find all of the online pet shopping resources that you could hope for here!!! Owning a pet of any kind can be a very rewarding experience. From the time you bring the cute little fuzzy thing home from the shelter or pet store. Pets can be our best friends, our family. They are there for us during the most difficult times of our lives and the happiest. That's why I would like to dedicate this site to all of those endearing little (or not so little) animals that have turned our houses into homes and warmed our hearts. The purpose of this site is to bring together a variety of information on care, safety, training, and any other area of interest about a variety of animals for the benefit of you and your pet. Don't be surprized if I slip a few random silly things in this site as well.

feel free to send me info on new pet info, product, and your own pet stories.

Cuddly Kitties

Cats are my area of expertise. I currently have 8. I'm sure by now that you've all heard the saying that dogs are "man's best friend". Well, that may be true, but cat's are a woman's best friend. They are intelligent, able to learn tricks, and can be very cuddly. I've taught cats to sit, lay down, shake, play fetch, walk on a leash, and do some darn cute things for treats. The main ingredient in a good cat/ human relationship is trust. I fiercely protect my cats because I love them, and I think that they pick up on that and give the love right back. No, you don't have to spoil a kitten rotten and carry them everywhere to get them to do the things i have described above. Older cats can learn to trust and do tricks too. So........

Willow

HERE'S THE STORY OF WILLOW

One year when I was around 20, i got a job as a vet assistant at a vet's office. Shortly after my employment began, one of the other employee's brought in a gray and black adult female tabby cat and her two kittens. Well, i went to visit them on a lunch break and saw the condition of the poor girl. She was very skinny, and one of her kittens was from a previous litter and almost 6 months old and still nursing. We were afraid the older kitten was pushing the younger kitten away and that it wouldn't get enough milk. Did I mention that the momma cat was very very mean? she would hiss at us and hide her babies in the closet. she tried to bite and scratch at us if we even looked her way. So, when i heard that the poor momma stray and her kittens were going to have to go to a shelter and would probably eventually be put to sleep, i took all three home. i fixed a home for the little family out in the barn (we live on 30 acres and away from any roads) and fixed them up a safe spot and fed them. Willow (that's what i named the momma cat) ran directly from the barn, across my mother's back yard and jumped both of my German Shepards. i guess they were in her line of eyesight and she figure they were a threat to her babies. Thank goodness nothing bad came of that incident. Things settled down after that, but Willow was not at all thankful that i had given her a new home. She would not let me pick her up, she would still scratch and bite at times (even after a few years) she hated all of the other animals. After i had had her for several years i found that she had an abcess on one of her ears. She had gotten bit by one of the other cats. despite protest from her, we went to the vet, had it drained, and she came home with antibiotics and a drainage tube in her ear. i had to make her stay in the house so i could find her easily to give her the medicine and clean her drain. she was in for a week or two until the tube could be removed. during that time, i noticed a huge difference in her personality. she had become a sweet cat overnight. she wanted to cuddle, she would meow nicely for her food, she would even let me pick her up and hold her on her back like a baby!! i was so astonished that i even called the vet and told them that there must have been a mistake and they must have given me someone else's cat. i knew she was mine but it was just weird. she's been like that ever since. she even runs out to the driveway to meet my dad when he comes home from work every evening(my parents live next door) . she really likes him. i finally figured that it took that one incident where she had to rely on a human fully to make her realize that people aren't that bad after all. Soft food and livin' indoors ain't that bad either. The point i'm trying to make is that trust does go along way in the animal world. All of my cats originally came from shelters or were going to be sent to a shelter if a home couldn't be found soon. My message for you is that if you want that special bond that only a special pet can provide. PLEASE, PLEASE.... go look through your local shelter and provide a needy kittie with a home. they may not seem to appreciate it at first, but they will even if it takes awhile. then you will have one of the most loyal, loving, and grateful friends that you could ever want. you just have to let them know that they are safe and that they can trust you.
