There are pros and cons in choosing to buy your pet parrots from the local store. The Pro is that you can basically get him right away and take him home. The cons are that you really can’t get much information on the pet parrots you are purchasing. You will know very little about his history or what temperament his parents may have had. Basically, buying your pet parrots from a local pet store is a gamble.

Another option is to look on Kijiji (something like craigslist but allows the people to post ads for animals). Here you can find out more information about the pet parrots, but it may make you wonder why people are trying to get rid of the bird in the first place. At least, here you have the option of probably being able to visit the pet parrot’s owner and talk about the history of the bird and find out why they are putting him up for adoption or sale.

The best place, in my humble opinion, to purchase your pet parrots from is directly from a breeder. Many times the breeders will provide you with hand-fed babies, weaned straight from their mother. These little guys are the easiest to raise because they already are used to being handled by humans. A word of caution is in order here though: Just because someone breeds birds, it doesn’t mean that the birds are in a healthy condition. Sadly, some people breed pet parrots, much like the puppy mills you hear about in the news. Some are in it just to make a profit and don’t even hand-feed the babies, but will tell you they do so that they can hopefully get a higher price.

No matter which avenue you pursue in order to purchase your pet parrots, please be sure to get all the information and research you can before making your final decision. This will help to make things work out for the best between you and your pet parrots.
