Peter Pan and Great Value Peanut Butter Recall Has Impact On Your Pets

We, being people, don't always stop to think about how the recall of Peanut Butter could affect our pets.

The FDA has recalled Peter Pan Peanut Butter, Great Value Peanut Butter, and Wild Kitty raw Cat Food. These products are said to be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria which causes food poisoning.

What to look for

  • Peter Pan brand Peanut Butter with code 2111
  • Great Value brand Peanut Butter with code 2111
  • Wild Kitty band Cat Food in 3 1/2 ounce size and one-pound packages

What you should do

  • Throw away the peanut butter
  • Throw away the cat food
  • Make sure the disposed product is not available to pets getting into trash
  • Make sure the peanut butter is not used as a pet treat

Don't use the recalled peanut butter as a snack for your pet. These products will make humans and pets, alike, sick.

Is Pet Promise a bad cat food? They claim to be all natural. After all the bad ones what is left?

to stop poison pet food, collect detailed circumstantial evidence: factories, locations, dates, workers, management, sources, handling, processing, testing, evaluation, labeling , laws. second, collect pet foods, put spoonful into strainer, add half cup water, stir, strain into white bowl;note sand in white bowl from tires of trucks with radiators filled cold, expanding , losing antifreeze on floor.

locate any lab and technician with gas chromatograph. offer to pay lab for one hour test . add one tsp each pet food sample to jar; add acetone half cup, stir and filter. collect half cc clear filtrate , inject into chromatograph or into uv spectrophotometer. record peak times and peak wavelength. repeat the test using separately.metaldehyde slug bait, etylene glycol anti-freeze, and chocolate or theobromine. compare pet food peaks ..

what may be happening is workers with trucks collect sweepings from warehouse spills of human food and household chemicals; with tire dirt and antifreeze, in containers labelled "whole grain, health food, fruits, nuts, cereals", mixed in pet food factory with advertised lamb and rice one ounce each, canned, sealed sterilized shipped and sold.

Wow, Glean! Where did you get your savy? Have YOU done such a test(s) on any products? If so, who were the bad guys?

Thanks,

I found a list of all the recalled dog and cat foods posted on , http://www.dogcatfoodrecall.com/. Thought this might be usefull information so that pet owners know which foods to stay away from from the time being.

My 3 year old cat likewise fell suddenly ill about a week ago. Blood test revealed it was renal failure. He was eating Special Kitty (Walmart Brand) a couple times a day. My vet recommended the IV for a few days but I had little hope for him due to his deteriating condition. Was pretty much planning to put him down but remembered a holistic vet in my area and gave it a shot. She gasped when she saw his blood results. We knew nothing about the recall at that time. She gave him a homopathic treatment (lycopoduim) and recomended 2cc. Lily of the desert (only) aloe vera gel twice a day plus only canned (wet) non-grain cat food. I still don't know how far he'll go but almost immediately he started eating and looks like a different cat. Today brought me not one but two lizards. Don't give up.

Interesting information I found - am I the only one bothered that in early March, Menu foods tested its food on "40 or 50" dogs and cats, and that 7 of the animals(no specific ratio was given as to how many cats and how many dogs) DIED??? This was WAY before they actually began the recal!!! I am in disbelief that this was how they "tested" the food!!! I had no idea that so many of the MAJOR brands of pet food we see in the stores and supply houses come from and/or through this manufacturer!!!

Please check the food you choose to feed your four-legged friends to see where it REALLY comes from. I personally feed my animals (4 cats and 1 dog) foods that come from Eagle Pack from Indiana USA www.eaglepack.com . The holistic vet is on the right track , but I hope that your cat's health continues to improve with no laong-term effects!

Is Royal Canin a bad food for my dogs? I just bought a 15 Kg. pack of Special Canin CC last saturday, but I don't see this brand neither in recall nor in safe food. I'm really concerned about it as I read yesterday that in Canada Royal Canin have had some problems because of costumers worried about their babies (pets) kidney diseases who had eaten that product. Thanks for your comments.

PEOPLE WAKE UP !!

We must contact the MEDIA !!! to set them straight on the real devistation that has befallen us. The news is saying that only 16!! pets have died. WE must get the truth out there on how many of our loved ones have crossed the Rainbow Bridge

THERE IS IS A COVERUP..... the media is trying not to tell the real truth because of political correctness...

THE TRUTH IS that the wheat was purchased from CHINA where rat poison is regularly used to deterr their rodent problem.

China has its own high rate of mortality due to food poisoning in one form or another... just google that fact.

If China uses these chemicals on food product, what do they think the wheat that they sell {to stupid westerners} would be used for?

Perhaps it was produced for NON HUMAN consumption and sold as such to the manufacturer of "pet food" [for we stupid westerners] hold their pets in high esteme...

you see, CHINA has no regard for DOGs or CATs.

Do you know what China does to DOGs? China breeds dogs then skin them alive, drop them in boiling water to keep their flesh tender, because it is a delicacy. You know about the fur coats recently sold in US and determined to be dog fur (from the above mentioned practice) . A few years ago, it was cat fur that made it into our market , in the form or stuffed toys.

WE MUST DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS.... NOT ONLY regarding the wheat... but the fact that our government is pushing us to use companies that do not have regulations.

WHY DO WE HAVE TO GO OUT OF THIS COUNTRY for low cost WHEAT???? when the gov't is subsidizing our farmers, not to grow wheat. AND .. we sell our wheat to other countries at reduced rates.

WHY are there no controls or inspections of food products that come into our country!! WE are loosing our loved ones. IT IS NOT fully MENU FOODs fault.

They perhaps may also be victums.......

PEOPLE WAKE UP !!

It is all in the name of GLOBALIZATION

rukiddingme  says:

dice228, how can you blame China for this? In China the regulation is quite different than that in US. There are less restriction on the ingredients suppliers, but there are regulations on the end product company such as Pet Food manufacturers. In other words, the END PRODUCT PROVIDER has the responsibility to clean the ingredients and make them safe. The only conclusion from this story, is that the American Company lacks the necessary knowledge (or too negligent) to do international trading. Furthermore, wherever they imported the ingredients, in my opinion they still have the final responsibility to make sure it's clean and safe.

As to the fur products, dice228's comments are more like a joke. Yeah, most of those products are from China, but don't forget, their markets are primarily in Europe or America. Actually that's one of the reasons Chinese people hate westerners because it is those wester profitters and consumers who are paying high to kill animals in China.

FIRST OFF I HOPE EVERYONE READS THIS MESSAGE ITS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME!!! LET ME START BY SAYING I THINK THIS WAS A BIG MISTAKE!!! I AM A BREEDER OUT OF MICHIGAN AND BACK JUNE LAST YEAR I HAD A LITTER OF PUPPIES... I HAD FOUND GREAT HOMES FOR ALL OF THEM!! IN OCTOBER I RECIEVED A CALL FROM A VERY UP SET AND DISAPOINTED MOTHER OF ONE OF MY MALES WHO LIVED IN OHIO... SHE SAID HER 4 MONTH OLD PUPPY WAS IN RENAL FAILER AND THE VET HAD NO IDEA WHAT CAUSED IT!!! WELL SHE HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO HAVE HER DOG PUT UNDER!!! HIS NAME WAS THUNDER JR AND AS A BREEDER AND HUSKY LOVER THIS WAS VERY DISAPOINTING TO ME AND DISCOURAGING!! I SPOKE WITH HER VET AND HER AND I WAS WILLING TO HAVE THE DOG SENT FOR A AUTOPSI AT MY EXPENCE BUT THEY WERE SO HEART BROKEN AT THE TIME THEY HAD SMALL CHILDREN WHO HAD BEEN VERY HURT!! THAT THEY WANTED THE DOG TO BE BURIED IN HER YARD AT HER HOME!!! I AGREED I WOULD HAVE WANTED THE SAME 4 MONTHS WAS LONG ENOUGH TO BE VERY BONDED WITH HIM....... NOW 5 MONTHS LATER THERE IS THIS BIG PROBLEM..... I AM NOT A SCIENTIST BUT WELLL SHE IS NOT ONE EITHER BUT ALL THE SYMTOMS ARE EXACTLY A MATCH TO HER LITTLE THUNDERS PROBLEMS!!! I FELL THAT THIS GOES BACK LONG BEFORE N-E ONE IS SAYING..... IF THAT MANY FOODS WERE CONTAMENATED THERE CAN NOT BE NO GUARENTEES THAT ITS RECENT.... PLEASE PASS THIS ON BECAUSE IF THERE WERE SIMILAR CASES BEFORE DEC... NOT THAT I THINK THAT EVERYONE SHOULD GET MONEY OUT OF THIS OR THAT IT SHOULD BE ABOUT MONEY BUT NOW AS A BREEDER I ALMOST GAVE UP MY WHOLE LONG DREAM OF BREEDING AND RAISING SLED DOGS THOUGHT I WAS DOING SOMETHING WRONG AND ALL ALONG IT WAS THE THING EVERYBODY DOES FEEDS THERE DOGS AND ANIMALS!!!! I have been giving Cletus, my 12 y/o, 110#, Western Chesapeake Bay, Wal-Mart's Ol Roy Grilled Chicken Strips for about 6 months now. Last week he started getting sick and looking just miserable. I knew of the recall, but checked it all out thoroughly and found no evidence of this particular product being involved. I chalked it up to Clete just having one of his bad days, although I had never seen him look this bad before. I honestly thought his time ahd come. Usually he would get these treats 2 to 3 times a day; 8 - 15 each time. He's a big boy, remember. I was apparently forgetting, or giving him othe treats and giving him these daily like usuall. It was easy toput it all together. I gave him some after a long evening walk on Sunday and on Monday he was VERY sick. I gave him a bunch of hot dogs and bread/tortilla treats around noon. By 2pm he was feeling OK. I had still not put it together yet. Tuesday night after a walk, I gave him his usuall amount of treats and sure enough come Wednesday morning he was 'deathly ill'. I thought for sure this was it, he was not going to make it to the end of the day. That's when it hit me for sure that the cause is the Ol' Roy Grilled Strips treats. He has been fine now for the past two days. Each time that he was sick I gave him about a package of hotdogs and some bread products and he got better in a few hours (15 to 20 hours after taking the tainted 'treats'). I am POSITIVE that this product is the cause of his illness. I do I go about having this product tested? I am dirt-poor. I am not able to take him in for every little thing, nor have this stuff independently tested. It may be possible that I could be persuaded by the 'power of suggestion' (about the recall), however, he can not! It is a direct link. I have a nearly full container of this product here. The following is the codes on the container:Best before JUL 29 08 TP7A29271146 I don't believe a word of what these corporations or what the FDA says. They are all merely trying to cover their butts. What do I do? To everyone else: BEWARE! Ol' Roy Grilled Strips @ Wal-Mart

Thanx so much,

Mac 'n' Cletus

Dear People:After reading about the contaminated pet food andthe tragic stories told by pet owners I did someresearch and I would like to tell you what I found. Everyone at one time or another has been bittenby a dog or cat. Last week, my sister`s little dog gaveme a nip and I jumped(she laughed). It'sno big deal where we live. But, if you live in China, get bitten by a dog, you could become one of the 200people that die every month from rabies. It seems the Chinese have been breeding dogs and cats for a long time for their skins. I guess they make fur hats or something that they sell and export and the dogpopulation is out of control like a 150 million dogs. And so rabies has proliferated to the point where 80%of all world human rabies cases occurs in China. Last summer the authorities started a campaign tokill all dogs, usually by clubbing them to death evenin front of their owners. Now maybe someone got a little tired of swinging clubsand opted for a more efficient approach to the cullingof the dogs. Maybe poison bait. The pet food poison. I hear a lot about melamine, but after reading the MSDSsheet on melamine it looks like it is not anything morethan an irritant and carcinogen. It certainly does notblock an enzyme necessary for protein synthesis uponwhich kidney function depends but Aminopterin(the ratpoison) sure does.(It used to be used as a chemodrug but was discontinued because it was too toxic.) The 2008 Summer Olympics will be held in Bejing China. If people find out about the rabies epidemic theymight think twice about attending, investors might thinktwice about investing in a would-be profittable venue. I`m not aware of how Menu Foods got the poisoned wheatgluten - maybe it was thought to be a very economicpurchase or the supplier was having a going-out-of-business sale or you got our gluten we got yours by mistake. My heart goes out to the owners of the pets thatare sick and dying. The only thing sicker is thatwhen the slime and destruction is finally scraped away, there`s the dollar. Jamez1957

Paddy,

No, Pro Plan is so far from being good for your pet! This product scored only a 2 on the review. It contains by-products and manure for the basic "goodies" for your pet. Also, this product is involved in a Class Action for the death and illness of countless pets.

NOT REALLY GOOD!

Been feeding my dog human canned food(ham, chicken, turkey) but he is getting tired of it and I don't know what else to get. For dinner he does get a sirloin patty, piece of chicken or fish(whatever we are having-meat wise). If any one has any ideas I would love to hear from you. Oh-if its anything like dog food he won't eat it. My dog got sick but hadn't eat to much of the recalled food. I've nourished him back to about 80% of what he used to be like. He'll never be the same.

My 5 year old cat died at Thanksgiving after eating Science Diet Wet food. He suffered blockage for a week and wasted away to nothing. The other rescued cat we have lost 5 pounds and was on antibiotics and pulled through.

Now it is 8/07 and our rescued Husky just got liver damage from eating Scooby Snacks, spooky limited edition from Del Monte Foods. He is on antibiotics and eating chicken, broth and white rice. I could not find the Scooby Snacks on the recalled list, but my mother bought them and fed them to the dog as she walked in our gate before we could take the box away and put it up. We do not feed our dogs or cats any brands that we are not completely comfortable with and this box made us cringe when my mother walked in the gate and fed them before we could grab them. The vet bill is $ 200 so far and we have a check up next week if all goes well this week. This rescued Husky had been through enuf without this liver damage

The food poisoning is still going on....everyone needs to put pressure on all the dog food suppliers. I emailed Del Monte and will follow up until these treats are on the list.

Oh yes, sadly, the pet food mess continues with new recalls as recent as this week. We do need to put pressure on these companies for producing bad products, poor labeling, and false advertising.

Purina’s Alpo Chop House Originals, Prime Rib Flavor, with a batch code of 7117 from plant 1159, dated best by Feb. 2009, the same date as the recalled canned food back in March, with batch codes 7037 thru 7053 almost killed one of my two Dogs on 9/26/07. Clear signs of poisoning from her continuos vomiting to watery bowl movements almost took her life. The tears in her eyes and the looks she gave were as if she was dying. I refused to take vets advise to put her down, fed her whole grain bread and brown rice as she could not eat and would not even take water, to control dehydration, which aside from the poison in the food is the number two killer when your pet becomes this ill. She is still not up to par, but is not in a pile of dead animals awaiting a ride to the pet food manufactuers plant either. It took Purina three days to reply to my email asking me to call them on Monday, six days after the fact! Concern for our pets and a sense of urgency is not their concern, our money is though! I'll keep you posted on what they have to say...
