Pete's Movie Reviews: A Complete History of My Sexual Failures

Chris Watt doesn't seem to be able to get his act together in relationships. He's been dumped by every girlfriend he has ever had. In an effort to understand this he has made a documentary interviewing (or trying to interview) all of his ex-girlfriends, to see what went wrong.
When I was first watching this I found myself wondering if I was watching a mockumentary. Some of it was so funny it was hard to believe that it was for real. At the same time, I felt like I was watching real people being themselves. The emotion conveyed in some of the more touching moments, such as the interview with the one real love in his life, was so moving that I couldn't believe that this was faked.
If there was any doubt by the end of the movie this was dispelled by the director who provided a Q&A session after the screening, with the audience. His discussions really filled in some of the blanks surrounding it. There were some stunts he pulled to keep it going, taking viagra, attempting sado-masichism, but beyond being an initial idea, the reactions of himself, and those around him during these were real. The pain of that whip was very real.
I can't wait for the DVD release. He was going to try and have some of the outtakes which the audience asked about as extras.
Its been a while since I laughed so hard and been so close to tears in the same film. 4 stars.
