Racism: It Will Lead Us To Nothing

The American Influence

As we all know, the Philippines was colonized by the Americans hundreds of years ago. They brought us the most important aspect of our lives - education. Up to this day, the American media still influences us with not just commercialism, but also some bad things. That is racism.

Although nowadays, there are black people in America who are given big breaks through music, movies, shows and all other forms of entertainment. But we cannot put aside the racism that's going on. At the commercials, we see white models. White people dominates the media, we cannot doubt that. Just like here in the Philippines, white people get more attention. Enough with that exotic beauty that some people are trying to say. There are also studies that most Asian women use whitening products. That's why here in the Philippines, those manufacturing companies of such products are earning mass income.

What am I trying to say? Since Philippines is still under influence of America (not entirely, just the media influence, just imagine the craze of Filipino people over the American sensations and shows, you get the idea), racism is still present right now. How many times do people heard of job discrimination for black people. Take for instance, my professor said that SM malls here in the Philippines do not hire black people. I am not entirely sure if this is factual, but my observation suggests so.
