Tropical Plants
These easy to grow and care for plants originated in tropical forests and are quite content with little sunlight (due to most forests having thick canopies of tree limbs and branches) as well as moist soil. You won't need a green thumb as they are very durable and adapt well to even the most neglectful plant owner.

There are basically 2 types of Philodendrons. Those that can climb, and those who dont. Some are flowers plants , or will produce blooms. More than 400 documented species are known, with others mentioned as possibly being related.

Climbers are well suited as indoor plants and container growing, growing fast enough to be shared with fellow plant lovers by simply breaking off a section and slipping it in dirt! An example of a climber is the Heart Shaped Philodendron (shown above), it is also the one that has taken over my kitchen.

Most of those that do not climb are considered a "tree" because of their woody trunks. These could be grown indoors as office plants if the ceiling is high enough because they can grow as high as 8 feet tall.

Growing Conditions:
As mentioned, they come from tropical forests and prefer any condition similar, such as a shaded area in your yard and moist soil. In the forests, You can easily create the perfect environment in your home by controlling plant placement.

It's important to note that Philodendrons are POISONOUS plants if ingested, and have been known to be fatal to pets and possibly small children.
