Between 6% and 13% of adults in America suffer from social phobia, this is the 3rd largest mental disorder after depression and alcohol abuse. And you need to be aware that social anxiety is also a cause of depression and alcohol abuse.

There are many consequences of social phobia such as being alone, fear of people, avoiding social situations, extreme anxiety, severe depression, drug and alcohol addiction and many more negative results of having this disorder.

Physical symptoms of social phobia

However there are some specific physical symptoms that most people with this disorder experiences not matter what gender or age has.

Some of those symptoms are:

  • Blushing
  • Sweating
  • Dry throat and mouth
  • Palpitation
  • High blood pressure
  • Trembling
  • Muscle Tension
  • Nausea
  • Trouble Talking
  • Diarrhea

Those are some of the most common physical symptoms of social phobia, but they go in hand with many emotional symptoms, panic attacks, anxiety, depression and others.

That happens because the person is too self conscious and experience an extreme fear of being judged by others and being scrutinize.

Other common signs and symptoms of social phobia are

  • Fear of embarrassing in public
  • fear that others will notice your physical symptoms
  • avoiding social situations
  • Fear of being watch
  • Panic attacks

And there could be many more signs that every person experience different like fear of public speaking and fear of performance. Those are the condition symptoms that often appear and that a person with this disorder needs to cope with.

The good news is that are medications that help to cope with this physical and emotional symptoms. For example you can reduce your anxiety and depression by taking an antidepressant, however you have to consult your doctor so he can prescribe you correctly.

I encourage you to find expert help and have a proper diagnosis of what you have and how to better deal with it. Social phobia is a serious mental disorder and can be overcome with proper treatment.

You should ask your psychotherapist and learn some techniques to cope with social anxiety and reduce the physical symptoms and reactions of your body in social interactions.
