A baby shower is a very exciting time for everyone involved! It marks the beginning of a wonderful journey into motherhood for the mother-to-be! Although this occasion is supposed to be a lot of fun, coming up with baby shower decorating ideas can be quite stressful to those in charge of planning the shower!

One way to take some of the stress out of the whole process is to come up with a solid theme. Think of the theme as an outline for how you will decorate the place that the party will take place. It will help you think more clearly about what kind of decorations you will need.

Picking a baby shower decorating theme is a lot of fun! It gives you a chance to explore your creativity! Everyone is creative, you just have to get the creative juices flowing!

First things first... Do you know the sex of the expected baby? If so, you already have a major part of choosing a theme out of the way! I'm sure that if the party is to prepare for a baby boy, you're not going to pick a little mermaid theme, and if it is a girl, you probably wont be picking a football theme! If the sex of the baby is still unknown, thats not a major problem at all! There are tons of themes out there that will accommodate both.

Picking A Theme For Girls

In my experience, picking a baby shower decorating theme for a girl has been much easier than for a boy. I think a big reason for this is that I am a girl! I knew what got me excited as a child, so it was a lot easier for me to pick something girly!

A great place to start brainstorming for girl themes is the Disney store. Take a day out of your schedule to walk around the store. Notice all of the different cartoon characters that girls love! Here are a couple examples...

Little Mermaid Sleeping Beauty Cinderella Belle (from Beauty and The Beast)

You could theme your baby shower around any one of those four ideas, and have a wonderful time decorating for it! If you aren't interested in any cartoon characters, you could always just go with a theme based around a color- like pink- for example.

Picking A Theme For Boys

This always seems to be a much harder task for me if the expected baby is a boy. The first few showers that I organized that were themed for a boy were pretty difficult, because I don't really think like a boy. After struggling for a while, I threw out my ego, and asked my husband for some ideas! Remember, there are guys in your life, whether it is your brother, your father, or your husband! Im sure they would be more than happy to help you theme the shower!

Most of the baby shower decorating themes that I used for boys were sports related. Pick a sport, and go with it! Decorate the walls with little football or basketball decorations, and you will be in business! If you don't like the sports idea, there is always the cartoon idea that you can fall back on. Cartoons like Aladdin, and Dark Wing Duck are just a couple! If you dont like that idea either, you can go with a colored theme like baby blue!

Dont Know The Sex Of The Baby?

If the sex of the baby is unknown, you still have plenty of options! Especially if you use the cartoon character idea! Sponge Bob, Blues Clues, and Barney are a few examples of cartoons that appeal to both boys and girls! You could also use a colored theme for this too! Using a cream color will be perfect for this situation!

Are Those Creative Juices Flowing?

If you were having trouble deciding on a theme before, I really hope that this hub helped you out a little bit at least! Baby shower decorating can be a lot of fun, if you just let your creative juices flow the way they are supposed to! Once you choose a theme, you should be smooth sailing from that point on!
