Hello,

This hub is dedicated to photographs of things that I see in my travels around Louisiana. I don't expect to have many picture of New Orleans, as my travels don't take me that way (just thought I'd let you know). I will be adding pictures of interesting things from places like Baton Rouge, Saint Francisville, Gonzales, etc., so add this stub to your RSS reader and you will know when I have added new pictures!

In my other life, I am a seamstress who makes girls pillowcase dresses. One of the dresses is pictured below. You can see more of my dresses by doing a web search on the phrase "Jennifers Jumpers Store".

The first picture is of the a dress that I made. The next pictures are of the Day it SNOWED in BATON ROUGE, LA! I mean it snowed. Look at those pictures! All of you Northerners who are laughing right now ought to be ashamed!. We have no idea how to handle this stuff!

I called my supervisor that morning (December 11, 2008) and asked if we were going to be open. She said yes, so like a nut case, I got in the car and drove to work. Baton Rouge is known for bad traffic, but it was great that day because all of the sane people stayed home. I only saw one over turned car (completely over turned, I might add).

I don't know why I went to work, fear I guess. I'm driving down the road and noticing that everyone is giving me a lot of room. Then I realized that I can't see the lines in the street and that I am driving in two lanes. No wonder the other drivers were being so nice to me!  Maybe I should try that on a clear day.

I finally get to work and in one hour they send us home. I am going home and watching bus loads of children being taken back home. I tell you, it was stupid raised to an art form. If I was the governor, I would have been on TV in my warm flannel PJ's and my matching pointy hat and my teddy bear. I would have told everyone that, " I'm not getting out of bed so you don't have to either!" The snow stayed on the ground for three days in the northern part of the parish.

My newphew built his first snow man. He was so upset when it melted 3 days later. My mom said that they had to pat him and hug him up. He cried like there was a death in the family. They tried telling him about Frosty the Snowman and how he came back, but he told them that he wanted is snowman now. The funniest part of it all was when he talked to me on the phone and told me how it all went down. He said, "I'm just so sad about it. His head melted down. HIs eyes fell out. His arms fell off and the blood ran out of hiim." Well, at this point, I have to be the dutiful Aunt and just choke on all of this. I didn't dare laugh at his first real dissapointment in life.

My mom told me that not long ago, he saw a picture of the snowman he built sitting on the kitchen table, Mom said he was so happy! He said, "Grandma, there's my snow man!" As you can imagine, I keep my co-workers entertained. They ask about him. When I tell them my newest nephew stories, they tell me that they now have a better understanding of me and that humor must run in the family. I don't know. I still haven't thawed out.

For the record, I didn't take these pictures, they were sent to my by a co-worker. I have some pictues that were sent to me of the Snow in Tiger Staduim. I'm sure you LSU fans will love that. I will get them posted soon.

 These pictures are of the snow in Tiger Stadim in Baton Rouge, La. December 11,2008.  The last time it snowed anywhere near this much in Baton Rouge was 20 years ago.
