Before showing you some pictures of flat warts, let me give you a little overview on this disease.

Flat warts, or verruca plana, are caused by the infection of the surface of the skin by a virus called HPV (the human papilloma virus).

This infection thickens the upper layer of the skin and causes some benign tumors to grow on the epidermis. These tumors are generally the size of a pinhead.

In most cases the symptoms of flat warts appear on the face, but they can also grow on other parts of the body like the arms, the hands or the knees.

Flat warts are not highly contagious, but they can spread through skin-to-skin to skin contact with an infected person.

Flat warts are generally harmless and they can go away on their own after a couple of months. But there are many treatments that can be used to heal them fast.
