The Paris of the South, now on the cheap

Once considered the Paris of the South, Buenos Aires is now one of the most affordable destinations for travelers. Because of the advantageous exchange rate, US travelers can enjoy what seems to be three times the luxury for the price. Buenos Aires is the cultural capital of South America. It is alive with history, music, and dance. This travel guide tells the basics of where to stay and what to see when you visit Buenos Aires for business of pleasure.

Where to stay

I recommend staying near the center of the city as it allows easy access to the Subte (subway). Retiro and Recoleta are the nicest neighborhoods for hotels. Both neighborhoods have ample access to the subway.

I highly recommend renting an apartment if you will be there for more than a week. Apartments can be had at bargin prices, they have their own kitchens, and can sleep whole families.

These beautiful shots of Buenos Aires show a few of the many neighborhoods of the city. Each neighborhood has a distinct character that reflects the history of the city. The city has a number of parks and attractions.

These photos are mostly from Recoleta and Retiro, in the center of the city. Other famous neighborhoods are Palermo, San Telmo, and La Boca, but there are dozens of neighborhoods in the city and they each are worth seeing. I once rode the bus for hours to try what I was told was the best pizza in the city. Although I still believe that title belongs to Cafe Kentucky in Palermo, the ride was an adventure.
