Middlebury Meets Expectations

Middlebury, located between Burlington and Rutland, was one of the stops on a Trains Unlimited Tours train ride through Vermont on a fall foliage trip. There was the perfect Congregational Church on a knoll, the Henry Sheldon Museum, a number of Vermont-specific stores, and, more importantly, Otter Creek Bakery.

John Deere was raised in Middlebury, Vermont, where he apprenticed as a blacksmith. Later he developed a new and unique iron plow and became the founder of what ultimately became the John Deere Company. There is a brass plaque noting this near the museum.
