Pilates Machine Enhances Workout

I'm a big fan of Pilates and now more specifically a Pilates machine. Having done mat Pilates with an instructor for a period of time I am now considering enhancing my workout with some Pilates fitness equipment.

Now I'm sure Oprah has purchased the top of the line Pilates fitness equipment for herself but this type of Pilates fitness equipment is pricey. I could continue at the gym and use the traditional Pilates reformer or invest in one of the lower priced home models. The most popular brands seem to be the Aero Pilates Reformer, the Pilates Power Gym and Pilates Performer which is a small version of the reformer.

In addition to the Pilates reformer there is also the Pilates, Cadillac or Trapeze Table, the Pilates Chair and the Pilates barrel or ladder barrel. The Pilates reformer which is what most people mean when they talk about a Pilates machine seems the most logical choice for me. At this point I'm not sure which I would choose and appreciate any suggestions in the comments section below. :)

Benefits of a Pilates Machine

There are many health benefits to an enhanced Pilates workout:

  • increased strength and flexibility
  • better posture
  • toned muscles and a sculpted body
  • achieve a cardio workout
  • improve mind/body connection
  • improve concentration
  • improve breathing

I really like the idea of getting a complete workout, including cardio all rolled into one. There are a ton of routines you can do which provides variety and fun; Two critical components for me to stay consistent.

Pilates Machine Gives Toned, Sculpted Body

What I like about moving up from mat Pilates to using a Pilates machine is that your workout is enhanced. In addition to all the benefits of Pilates I mentioned above what got my attention was the possiblity of getting faster results.

And with faster results would come that toned, sculpted look that I've always aspired to but have never quite managed.

Irene,

I've been to plenty of gyms but none of them has ever had Pilates equipment like the Reformer; only Pilates classes using some of the moves.

It sounds fun, hard, and effective. I can't wait to see your new toned, sculpted body!

Great Article Irene. I have been looking into different exercise methods and love the idea of having everything rolled into one work out! I have seen the reformer sold on television shopping networks. I have also seen them at my gym. Thanks for sharing your wisdom!

Hi Irene,

I have been doing Pilates for about 3 years now. Yes, the Reformer is a great piece of equipment, but what I have found to be the case for me, is a great instructor. They vary in their teaching skills, but I finally found one who is the best! We use the Reformer throughout my one hour sessions and do I ever get a workout!

Glad you're into Pilates...it's a fabulous body strengthening exercise system!

Sarah
