Piranha Knife Company

Piranha Knife Company is one of those great little knife companies that seem to do everything right. They make high quality production automatic knives. Because they limit the different style of knives they currently manufacture--and they don't come out with new styles of knives very often--they seem to produce great automatic knives. I think it is because they focus on making high end automatic knives out of top notch materials instead of always looking for a new little "gimmick" to add to their existing knives.

Each of Piranha's automatic knives are available in a few variations. The handles come in a wide variety of colors. Black, red, blue, green, plum and even some more offbeat colors including pink are the typical colors you can find on their knife handles. Their blades are made either plain edge or partially serrated and you can get them in the stainless steel color or you can get them with a black tactical coating. Whatever knife style and variations you choose from them, I am sure you will end up being very satisfied with your purchase. These are great auto knives from a hardworking, high quality knife company.

Piranha Pocket (P1), Blue Serrated

Piranha Pocket, Automatic Knife (P1)

Piranha Knife Company's first automatic knife to go into production was the Pocket.  Sometimes referred to as the P1, it is still the mainstay of their automatic knife line.  This automatic knife, like all of Piranha's knives, comes in a variety of handle colors ranging from the classic black handle to plum and even pink.  The blade styles come in four variations.  You can get it plain edge or partially serrated and you can get it the regular stainless steel color (which with Piranha knives is nearly a mirror finish) or you can get it a black tactical color.  Their black blades are a matte finish--not the high gloss finish on the blade that you would see with a Microtech or a Pro-Tech automatic knife.  I don't think either way is necessarily better, it just depends on your preference.

The Pocket is a mid size automatic knife.  The springs that Piranha uses are known throughout the industry for their strength.  The blade really does come out very fast.  The first time you open a Piranha automatic knife, be sure you have a good grip on the handle.  I tell this to everyone, and it still amazes me how often the knife jumps out of a first-timer's hands.  The blade material is 154-CM stainless steel.  A great steel for blades.  It keeps an edge and is relatively easy to resharpen.  The handles are made of T6-6061 aircraft aluminum.  One neat thing about Piranha knives is that with the colored handles, even if you scratch them, the color seems to go all the way through.  I haven't cut a handle in half yet to check on this, but I have sure scratched a couple of mine up quite a bit and have yet to get that "stainless" look under the scratch.  The Pocket is one of those knives that will last for a really long time.  If you take good care of it, it should last you a lifetime.  These are excellent automatic knives, if you don't have one--think about adding one to your collection.

Piranha Fingerling (P2), Black Plain Edge

Piranha Fingerling Automatic Knife (P2)

Piranha Knife Company made the Fingerling as a smaller brother to the Pocket. The Fingerling, sometimes known as the P2, is just 6 inches open and weighs in at under 2 ounces. I really like the Fingerling for every day carry purposes. It is classy enough to look good wherever life may take you. Whether you work in a suit and tie or in jeans and a t-shirt, the Fingerling is a fantastic automatic knife. Like the Pocket, the blade is made of 154-CM and the handle is made of 6061 T6 Aluminum. Great quality knife that can last a lifetime. Check this one out if you like the Pocket but want a smaller knife to carry in your pocket. It does have a titanium clip if you like to use a pocket or belt clip.

Piranha Mini Bodyguard (P7), Blue, Tactical Serrated Blade

Piranha Excalibur, Out the Front, (P8), Plum, Tactical Blade

Piranha Excalibur, Out the Front Knife, (P8)

Piranha Knife Company's eight knife is the long awaited out the front knife. The Excalibur is a sturdy, well built companion to the rest of their line of knives. This knife measures in at nearly 8 inches when open. The double action blade opens and closes with the same slide button on the front of the generous handle. You slide the button up and the blade shoots right out. Slide the button back and the blade closes nice and tight. For a first time Out the Front knife, Piranha sure did an amazing job. The spring action is fantastic. The blade, when open and in the locked position, has virtually no play in it. This means it doesn't waggle from side to side or wiggle up and down. The blade material is the ever popular 154-CM stainless steel that is so great for knife blades. The blade has a nice looking groove right down the middle. You can get this blade with partial serrations on both sides or you can get it plain edged on both sides. You can also get it stainless or black coated.

The handles are made of aircraft aluminum and are available in a wide variety of colors. My favorite is the black handle and the nearly mirror polish blade. These are really good out the front knives. There are only about 3 manufacturers of OTF knives whose product I would recommend--Microtech, Benchmade, and now Piranha. Great first entry into the OTF class of knives.
