Pistol of Power
58My Favorite Pistol
I personally own the Ruger Blackhawk .357 Magnum that i purchased in 1974 while in Alaska, it has 7 1/2" barrell, single action, with interchangeable cylinder that .38 caliber or 9 milimeter can be fired. I have installed oversized walnut handgrips that allow a more dependable grip when firing a hot load of .357. I have a permit to carry it consealed on my person, not an easy task, but you do not have to pull it to get the point accross if some one is wanting to play, just flash it's handgrip and hoster and they shut their mouth's.

Great For Hunting
I have hunted with this weapon and have never missed anything that i aimed at, no more than one shot is needed, practice makes perfect, I have even went snake hunting and never missed the head, that way the skin would not be damaged for hat bands or belts. I have other weapons at my that i use, two Marlin .22 calabers rifles, one a limited addition Gold Trigger, the other a short Brush rifle, I also have a Marlin .357 limited addition Gold Trigger rifle, and a old Stevens 16 gague single shot shotgun that was owned by my father when he was a boy. I love my other weapons, my .22 especially, but none compaire to my .357. I would recomend to anyone who wanted a accurate, easy to maintain, well balanced, great looking Ruger Blackhawk .357 Magnum pistol.

My Weapon Of Choice
Range Safety Tips
As a former Sharpshooter in the Army i believe in range safety. When you are on a fireing range safety should be your primary concern, always keeping the weapon breached, unloaded, weapon pointed down range, and always have eye & hearing protection, then load your weapon once you are in position and the range is clear. These simple rules may save you, a friend, or your loved ones life. One of the most dangerous weapons in the world is an unloaded gun, you know the one "don't worry that thing is'nt loaded" (dead "BANG"), always check in a safe manner to see if a weapon is unloaded before handing it to anyone, because they might miss themselves and hit you.

I am not really into guns. Even though they say gns don't kill people but people do---I still think that if they weren't available there would be less killings. That's just my opinion from living just outside the Washington D.C. area while growing up.
hi misty, thanks for the great review, i look forward to reading more of your hubs very soon.
hi Lady, thanks for replying to my hub, i am sorry that weapons frighten you. even if they banded weapons, criminals would still get them, or use big knifes, and we would be defenceless against them. i feel people should be made to take classes in the proper handling and cleaning of weapons, and then be made to qualify with a weapon on a firing range so that they would have the experence of firing a weapon. the knowledge of knowing how to use weapons helps reduce the fear of them, and puts a knowledge of fear into the criminal, because he would be facing a person who might shoot back at the coward.
Thanks for asking me to look into this hub. Although I am not a gun person but still found this hub informative. Ok here is my opinion about guns I feel that a thorough psychological assessment needs to be done before handing out guns. We don't want another Virginiatech tragedy on our hands.
CW Exactly!!! And you can also put in the Columbine shootings too!
Roger do a study on how many children get killed by their parent's having a gun in the house and it is even locked up. Also include in that study how many people get killed accidentally by learning how to use those guns and then do another study at how many knives there already are in the world and just how many are used to kill oother humans.
Great hub! LOVE it! I am from your neighboring state, Mississippi. We live in the northeast corner. We are not far from Red Bay. Anyway, my daddy has the same gun you own. The 357 Mag. I grew up shooting that gun. I love it. I'm hoping that one day it will come my way lol. My gun of choice is the Kimber stainless .45. I love it. I chose it over the Glock because of the intentional pull vs the double safey on the Kimber and we have a young son. Some of the best memories of my childhood is going down the bottom behind the house and shooing that 357. One day he loaded it and let me empty it, then he volunteered to reload it for me. I was shooting leaning against the hood of the pickup while shooting. Then he handed it to me and I shot again. He had switched the cylinders on me. And it about blew my ear drums out LOL. He felt it was very funny. Leaning against that pickup makes a huge noise with the right cylinder in it! LOL That was back before anyone much used protection for their ears. We use it now. With my 45, it's nice to have it. I shot it without protection just to see how bad it would be. I shot hollow points. My ears rung for hours. I learned my lesson. Great pics you used too. Thanks for the hub and I'm behind you on your love of guns. I carry mine everywhere with me. So does my husband. And, I guess it goes without saying, my daddy does too.
hi countrywoman, thanks for the great reply, but the situation that you are talking about happened because the parents did not care enough to disipline the child when it was younger, and watching the kill everyone videos, and our liberal laws of oh it is ok, slap on the hand, do not do it again. if the kids see that they will pay for their stupidity then it might not have happened. before you judge guns you should learn how to use them, then make a judgement. i love them and use them when ever i get the chance, they are fun as long as you take the proper precautions.
hi lady, columbine was the same thing the parents allowed the child to get away with what ever it wanted, watching killer videos, and not monitoring the childs actions. i know peoples children have died that was also because the parent did not train them (probally because they were not trained) how to properally use a weapon, and cleaning is a dangerous but most people that are harmed when cleaning a weapon is by the old standard (that weapon is empty) all weapons should be considered loaded weather it is or not. i personally have 20 knives, 3 machities, 12 swords.
That may bes so, but how are those who like guns goibg to stop that?
hi lady, knives have been around longer than the gun, and i would rather face a gun than a knife, you stand a chance that he might miss, with a knife he can bring it out from any where, stab, slash, slice you from any angle. i hope that you and your husband consider learning more about guns by going to a shooting club meet the people, and see they are responsable citizens.
hi alshookup, thanks for the great review, and i am glad that you enjoy my passion for weapons, it sounds like you have enjoyed sharing your passion for weapons with your father and your family members. i carry my pistol every where i go too. thanks again.
No problem. Great hubs like this one of yours is few and far between. Keep em coming! We need more of them!!! Is Alabama as cold as Mississippi is tonight? :(
The kids who shot so many at Columbine were fans of Marilyn Manson. They listened to his music religiously. Marilyn Manson took his name from two people. Marilyn Monroe and Charles Manson. This alone will show the wickedness in his heart. It also shows what the parents of those two boys allowed them to hear and listen to.
Manson is a Satan worshiper and does what he can to program children into worshiping Satan also. Teen agers are especially vulnerable. They are all unstable to begin with. People like Manson target these teens. It isn't by accident that they lead them astray.
Censcor ship has become a dirty word in the US. I think music should be censcored.
A good hub.
hi SirDent, thanks for the great reply, i do believe Satan is having a field day with all the stupid things going on in the world. i also beleive that prisoners should not be allowed to communicate with people on line, by mail, or anyother media source, they are there for a reason, and should not be allowed to express their belief's to anyone. the only people they should be able to contact is their family, and all communications should be monitored before it is released, especially someone like the Mansons, or any other cults, murders, serial killers. as far as music they have gone a little too far with some of it and should be watched and rated for adult use only, 21 or more years old.
roger, what you said about knives being around longer than guns made me think of something someone said to me one time concerning guns killing people....you know that same old tired argument. He said that if you are going to take away the things that kill the most people, then you'd have to take away cars first because of the amount of people who are killed by cars per year versus the amount of people killed by cars. So, where's the line of people who wants to ban cars? Then, where's the line of people who wants to can tobacco? You can see his point. It was more like he was just showing that people need to exercise common sense. And so many don't. I thought his example was great. Also, SirDent made great sense in what he said. Music effects you. And the example he gave is a prime one to stay away from. I like several types of music, but some just plain ole scare me due to the lyrics etc. You have to guard yoru heart at all times or else the devil will sneak in. You hub looks great! I don't think I told you this, but our son is taking Shooter Safety (NRA) classes and also Target Shooting Classes. He is loving it. They are using Air Rifles right now, but will be moving to centerfire soon. They constantly stress safety and we love that. It's the most important part. Keep the hubs coming!
hi Allshookup, thanks again for the great reply, people are something, just like the woman who started "M.A.D.D.", she was a happy go lucky woman who did not have a care in the world, and was happy with things in her little world, until someone killed her child, then all hell broke loose. this is the samething with weapons today, people listen to what the press says, socialist, communist, anti gun groups because it is thrown in their faces every day on tv, the raido, the new paper (or the socialist times & communist daily). if people would do what your son is doing, taking safety classes, going to the shooting ranges, finding out how to properly clean a weapon, and how much target shooting can be, they would love it. thanks again.
Roger:
I like this article. Not only have you provided infromation about a very powerful weapon, you've also included some safety facts all people need to know.
One thing I do think you should include is the statistics for "kids" who accidentially shoot either theirself or others due to lack of proper training. It might wake a few people up to the fact that yes gun are a fun hobby, But they also can actually kill if left in the hands of an inexperienced person.
I like how you mention that you dont even have to draw the weapon to get a point across. More people should think about that before messign with other people. You never know what reinforcement they may have.
hi six9k9, thanks for the great reply, i am aware of children messing with weapons and being killed, or killing someone else. a friends 14 year old boy stole her postol that had a lock on triger and took the key from it's hiding place and went riding around with his so called friends, and shot himself in the head. my friend was devistated and blamed herself for it. if she had put the key on her keychain her son would be here today. it was said he was riding with 4 other boys, and they all said he was goofing around with the gun and it went off, i know for a fact he would have had to put a lot of pressure on the trigger to fire the weapon, which means his friends were trying to get the gun when it went off and blamed it on him. people should be aware that kids watch everything, and they should have a gun safe, with triger locks that only the parent has the key too and on their person at all times, i do.

This was very informative, and although I know little about guns, I found it was clear, concise and easy to understand. Well done and keep up the good work.
