How to save on the cost of visiting Rome.
Booking a central hotel in Rome and a budget flight.
If you wish to visit Rome on holiday it is possible to cut the cost of your travel and the hotel accommodation by using the Internet to search for and book your cheap flights and budget hotels.
It is probably best to make sure that you book a central hotel hotel, as if you have a hotel in the centre of Rome you will not waste time on travelling back and forth into the city. You will also find a difference in the price of hotels at different times of the year.
You can search on the Internet to check on reviews for your hotel and also check on maps to make sure it is close to the places that you want to visit while you are on holiday visiting Rome.
When travelling to cities in Italy on budget flights make sure you are booking the correct airport destination you wish to arrive at some Italian cities have more than one airport.

The Trevi Fountain
Trevi Fountain Rome Italy
The Trevi Fountain in Rome is a main tourist attraction so you would be fortunate not to find it being visited by lots of other people who are also on holiday in Rome. All of them will also be trying to take photographs of the Trevi Fountain and throw their 'three coins in the fountain' as in the film and to supposedly ensure that they will once again visit Rome. If you are lucky and patient eventually you will get to throw your three coins into the Trevi fountain and return to Rome once again.
Tour The Forum.
The Forum will be one of the places you will wish to see, it is worth having a tour guide take you around the Forum as they are good at pointing out details you might have missed if you walk around the Forum with just a guide book in your hand.
There are many interesting stories about life in Rome that a good tour guide will tell you.
Take a break at mid-day.
When in Rome.... "Do as the Romans do" take a break in the heat of the day.
If you visit Italy in the Summer months it will be very hot especially in areas like the Forum... in August you will need to protect yourself from the sun. It might be best to avoid walking around this area in Summer at mid-day. It is best to rest at lunch times and take a break as the Italians do. Either have a meal in a cool restaurant beneath a shady parasol most restaurants in central Rome will be air conditioned if you wish to eat inside. Or take a nap at your hotel another reason to having booked your hotel in the centre of Rome.

That is good advice 'The Rope' and thank you for leaving a comment. I really want to visit Florence and spend time looking around the city and galleries. My only visit to Florence was a very short one; a day trip from Pisa. I was impressed though having wanted to see the place for years and I hope to return one day and see it properly.
Travelling on a budget flight.. luggage restrictions
A reminder about luggage when travelling with budget UK air flights to Europe...
Remember if you are booking with a budget air company (UK) that the cheapest way to travel is if you can manage to travel 'light' with just cabin baggage the size of which varies according to which company you book your flight to Rome with.
With some budget airlines (UK) you will be allowed only one bag which means that handbags, cameras, laptops etc. must fit into your one piece of hand luggage which must fit into the 'overhead locker' storage area on the flight.
Check on restrictions of liquids etc. that may be taken through airport security checks in the UK. If you buy products in the 'air-side' shops when through the security checks some budget airlines will expect you to fit these toiletries etc. into that one piece of hand luggage for the flight. If in doubt it is best to check on your booking details.
