LCD vs Plasma, operating, buying tips

By coincidence, three very good friends decided to buy television sets almost simultaneously in November. Two Plasmas and an LCD. Surely the indecision was great . What to choose? Plasma or LCD? Which on is better, which shows a better picture, what to buy, LCD or Plasma? To be HD, Full HD or HD Ready. Since this is a much debated topic, I thought clarification was needed as soon as possible.

Plasma: more colors, more alive, better contrast, better black, better reaction, low price advantage on the large screens. Also the angle of view is 178 - 179 degrees, but the newer screens show the same picture from any angle (except the back)
Plasma Disadvantages:the possibility of the shadowing effect (darkening, burning) for exclusively used pixels such as in the case of static images or black stripes on wide-format movies, etc. ... however, the pre burn technology has started in factories which eliminates 95% of problems. Also, if used at high altitudes you may hear an annoying noise on Plasmas.

LCD: better native resolution, the lack of the shadowing effect on images, the price advantage of high resolutions (HD, full HD)
Disadvantages: ghost images, remanent at the sudden change of image, poor contrast, black is not quite black, longer reaction time, blurring on films or animation or fast movements on screen. Theoretically, the angle of view is around 176 but actually, with the increasing viewing angle beyond 100 degrees, horizontally or vertically, some obvious changes of color or brightness and contrast appear.

Tip for buying: First, do not expect the best images of the cable transmission or antenna. If your TV doesn't have a good analog tuner, you will see even worse. But for digital transmission, Satellite, DVD, Blue Ray or HDDVD, it is quite another story!
IMPORTANT: take your TV depending on the distance from which you watch! If the screen is small and you watch from great distance, don't waste the money on a Full HD 1080p, the eye does not make a difference, the details are too fine. Better, give the same money on a bigger screen but not Full HD, only 720p HD ready. If you sit close to your TV, take the Full HD, not to see individual pixels.

Example: for a TV (Plasma or LCD) with 42 inch diagonal, the ideal viewing distance for HD 720p is 8.2 feet, while for a 1080p Full HD the ideal distance is only 5.1 feet.
Similarly, for a diagonal of 50 inch, the ideal viewing distance at 720p is 9.8 feet, while for the same diagonal of 50 inch, Full HD 1080p the ideal viewing distance is 6.5 feet. Of course calculations make sense only if you watch Full HD transmissions. For normal TV signal or DVD doesn't really matter.

If the TV is situated in a very bright room, get LCD TV because the picture on a LCD is better seen on the stronger light than a plasma.
But if you are a film passionated fan or watch action movies with plenty of fast-moving, or watch documentaries in which the depth of the colors matters, take a Plasma display.
