Introduction to Plastic Surgery

The word Plastic is derived from the Greek word Plastikos which means to mould surgery or shape.Plastic Surgery can be done to improve the functioning of a body part or to improve the appearance. In the former case, it is called Reconstructive surgery and the latter is the cosmetic surgery. Rhinoplasty is the surgery of the nose to correct birth defects or breathing problems and also to meet aesthetic goals.

The first ever such surgeries were first carried out in India or Greece  in 2000 BC. There are works of Sashruta, the Indian physician considered to be the father of surgeries, in the 6th century BC.

Reconstructive surgeries

There are people who are unfortunately born with some birth defects like cleft lip, abnormal ears or asymmetrical appearances, extra or less fingers and many more. Those suffering from such defects would like to undergo the knife to rectify them. In such cases, plastic or cosmetic  surgeries are a blessing. They need not have to remain the rest of their lives with these defects to face emotional insecurities.

There are thousands of accident victims who prefer to undergo plastic surgeries to restore the shape of their face, nose and the like.

Who are the main patients of Reconstructive surgeries?

Reconstructive surgeries thus help the patients with a better functioning body part.

  1. Accident victims
  2. People with all types of birth defects
  3. Fire victims
  4. Skin cancer patients needing skin grafting
  5. Aged patients needing restoration of hips, joints and tendons

would be highly beneficial by these types of plastic surgeries. Millions of such Reconstructive surgeries are done every day by the General Physicians and Pediatricians. The patients can differ in age from a new born to an elderly.

Undergoing the knife, many believe, would increase our self confidence and fame. Aged women undergo breast and face lifts; young women opting for breast implants, nose and lips shaping, lipo-suction and belly tucking to remove excess fat. Many would love to defy their age and would be ready to do anything for that purpose… even undergo the sharp knife.Chicago cosmetic surgery are world wide famous in cosmetic surgeries.

The biggest disadvantage of plastic surgery is the risk and then the price tag. Some surgeries can be complicated and the final outcome depends solely on the cosmetic surgeon’s skill. No one is willing to pay a huge amount to look worse; plus the pain and the risk of infections and swelling.

Dear hubber_2009 :The term ‘plastic surgery’ comes from the Greek word ‘plastikos’, which means to mold or to give form. Many of the early-recorded efforts in cosmetic surgery were attempts to restore normal form to body parts that had been altered due to injury
